Could be because he is in a higher level postion than the others and therefore at more risk. But I'm just speculating.

I'm extremely confident this is the case. The guy is high up whoever he is. Having said that, the coded language thing is probably partly just for kicks.

So is next weeks announcement good or bad for MS? I assume more bad news?

Could be either, could be that they are selling the Xbox One without Kinect at 399, or that they are only shipping some low number at launch because of yield problems. Imagine only 200k consoles for US launch or 150k for entire Europe (or well the select tier 1 countries)

Could also be a technical change that we do not know about, with MS recently anything is possible

Keeps his anonymity in check.

I never got that. How could you pick up on the way who someone is through typed text? If it was literally handwritten, I could understand, but typed text?

Wat? There are probably GAFfers who have the same typing "style" (if you can call it that) and yet they live on polar opposite ends on the planet.

So long as he never signed in on GAF at work, and did his posts on untraceable IP addresses and NEVER told anyone (outside of mods of course) then I don't see how him writing normally could even be traced.

Hmm I think you're misinterpreting his post. I think he's implying that his bit about esram yield problems relates to today's announcement of delays in some Euro countries. And the 'more to come next week' will be him revealing more news that may or may not be connected to this issue next week.

That's the same way I interpreted it.

Good shout, could mean hardware... hmm, would they announce a downgrade? I guess maybe if it was major.

I would be very surprised by this. Given that they came out and announced some hardware aspects not to long ago, if there was fear they might be downgrading other aspects, I don't think they ever would have brought it up.

That said, "hugiton wuzzles" or whatever it was that Cboat mentioned is totally beyond my comprehension, so I guess your guess is as good as mine.

cboat, dunno if you are actually working for ms but is it cool there atleast? good work athmosphere? if you do then it feels strange for me why you'd even work there considering your negative attitude towards ms.

just being a curious dragon

Having a negative attitude towards your employer doesn't mean you don't want to work there, though it does mean you disagree with the direction they're taking.

CBOAT IS PHIL SPENCER CONFIRMED

I just want to know if it's good news or bad news for next week.

You know, so I can keep my emotions in check

Edit: Oh wait, so it's bad news it looks like...what else could it possibly be?

I'm pretty cure CBOAT previously said that they are sticking with the Kinect, and recently when somebody called him out about how he was wrong because of the recent news about Kinect not being required, he replied back with how to call him out only if a non-kinect xbone is released.

Something along those lines. You'll have to bring up his quotes. But, I really don't think it's going to be a kinectless bundle.

I think it has to do with his leaks as well which run deep in MS.

Nobody will quote his posts on other sites, meaning it is less likely to come back to people at higher levels of Microsoft.

Recently JK Rowling was found out to be ghostwriting a book simply based on the style of writting and phrases and words she used through a computer generated software. So that's why he writes the way he does.

I've been able to pick up on perma banned people with secondary accounts on this very site who were found out and banned later due to their tonality with typing. It's a very real thing especially if you communicate a lot through email in a large company.

Kinect 2.0 not ready for launch, release Q4 2014, Xbone will ship with a sixaxis-like pad in the meantime.

No idea

That is how I took it. Thus my Kinect-less version post. But I think more of a cost cut myself which is related to the Kinect intrinsically.

Hard to believe that Microsoft wouldn't know by now if they cared, especially since people like Albert Penello actively post here and CBoaT has been around for ages.

But Gaf is a website everyone in the industry knows about. Microsoft employees or executives don't need a search engine to find his posts; they can come in this very thread and see for themselves.

I suppose that it was useful as long as his username wasn't really well known... in that case any search with "Xbox yield problems" could have pointed to a potential leak.
But now everybody knows you just have to search for "crazy buttocks on a train" to detect leaks, so in the end the message coding is pointless. Or just a gimmick.

What if that's just how he talks in real life?

best threads are where Penello and Cboat are posting.

Penello must be like "WHO'S THAT GUY GRRRR I'M GONNA FIND THAT BITCH!"

while cboat must be like "trololololol heyeyey ey"

Look, I believe CBoat proved himself in some way to the mods, which is why he's allowed to continue to post.... But what bothers me is all this vague "wait till next week" bs that could mean absolutely ANYTHING. Then when whatever happens...CBoat validated!!

Gamescom will beat a hoot for sure.
What bothers me is more the glee and enthusiasm upcoming bad news is being treated.

You can definitely see how excited some people are to see the Xbox do badly.

I think he was just saying "Hugs!" in a long, cute way to denote that the guy he quoted figured out exactly what he meant.

I think it's less 'MS isn't aware of him' and more 'they've got people trying to decipher his writing style to pin him down to one of their high ranking employees'. MS would love to see CBOAT unmasked and promptly fired.

I really hope that's not the case. I would be even more disappointed with how that whole XboxOne project turned out. :/

Or maybe he is hiding from that secret Microsoft semantic correlation analysis spying software. #tinfoilhat

I wouldnt read too much into the enthusiasm. A lot of us are more excited for CBOAT because hes so fun with the way he leaks stuff.

davepoobond

you can't put a price on sparks
my guess as to what he means:

hugiton wuzzles

hugiton = big megaton? just saying it going to be a "huge" "megaton"

wuzzles = next week?

This doesn't matter for my purchase, but I have to admit it's crazy watching MS scramble. In the end they aren't going anywhere, this series of events will be a lesson they're not likely to forget and they will be better for it. Sony had theirs last gen and we all knew it was only a matter of time before MS had theirs as well. Third-console curse is alive and well.

Only thing that will keep me from getting X1 day one is a delay for Killer Instinct.

There likely is some of that, sure. But personally, I attribute the response more to the excitment about learning insider information that nobody else knows, before anybody else knows. It's why spoilers are so popular with people such as with tv, movies, and yes games.

all MS needs to do is feed false leaks internally to limited amounts of people and see if they surface...if so, they will be able to establish a list of possible cboats, or at least people who may speak to cboat.

unless...

there are multiple cboats.

it's not about "finding" them. writing that way means he's less likely to be quoted directly by the likes of IGN. same thing with the username.

even if THEY know he's legit, good luck convincing your readership. the name is ridiculous and the writing barely legible.

I was so angry about "always online" I sold my 360. So while I actually don't care one way or the other how they do at this point, every screwup is validation of my decision to exit Microsoft's console ecosystem.

Thinking about it I hope they do ok because I think competition will be a very good thing for gamers this gen.
