Wade is a quality guy when given a chance. His matches with Orton and D-Bryne prove that to me. It's really amazing how much they fucked up with him. I think everyone had the thought of "This guy is the next WWE Champion" on the first night of NXT. Then Nexxus happened and it made even more sense. But they fucked that entire feud up in just a few weeks and really ruined everyone for a few years. Then the actual Cena burial killed him for good.
Wade never really recovered, Darren Young spent about 2 years off TV, Justin Gabriel is a Superstars/Main Event jobber, Ryback was completely repackaged after 2 years of injuries, Tarver is gone, Heath became the king of the jobbers (which is actually a good thing), Otunga made out well for a while but is also off TV, and Daniel Bryan's success had nothing to do with that angle.

Yeah, K-ness hasn't done too much of note since Toryumon became Dragon Gate, his Brave Gate run was really disappointing. I was hoping he'd defeat Yoshino at the Kobe World PPV, but unfortunately not. Pretty good match, regardless.
I don't know what the fuck's going on in Dragon Gate anyways, Shingo losing the Dream Gate has me legit shook.

They destroyed Wade's confidence with that pay your dues bullshit by getting jobbed out bad. Watch the him on NXT and watch him now his confidence is gone
Yeah, Wade really had his run messed up so bad.
Like you mentioned, NXT and the Nexus had him poised to try and rise into the main event. Then of course, Cena happened, and the rest is history.
Then they had that silly Corre faction that went nowhere, and the Barrett Barrage which ended up leaving him injured (dammit, Big Show!).
Then he won the IC title and lost like 90% of the matches he was put in until he finally lost it to The Miz, won it back the next night, then lost it later to GENESIS. (aka Curtis Axel, McGillicutty, El Hijo de Perfecto, and so on..)
Fun Fact: Wade held on to the IC Title for a combined 257 days. For comparison, Kofi's held it for a combined 266 days. Pretty crazy, huh?

Getting a massive kick in the balls (literally) from HHH really didn't help either.
At least he's having good matches and only jobbing to Bryan at the moment, could be a lot worse.
You guys are seeing something that isn't there. Even if Cena didn't bury him, we'd have another mediocre wrestler beating much more talented guys in the main event.
Even Sheamus, despite his TERRIBLE face run, has great matches. Ryback even had a good match with The Shield. Cena has great matches. I can't remember a single Wade match that went beyond passable.

I thought he had a couple of good matches with Daniel Bryan lately..but yeah I can't think of a classic match with him.

One of the problems Barrett faces now is that he got over not so much on his wrestling ability but on how well he handled himself as a newcomer being thrown into what was one of the main storylines of WWE in 2010 as a focal point. He presented himself very well on the microphone, led a memorable if typically botched faction and even had quite a few PPV main events later in the year against the likes of Cena and Orton.
Then he got buried in chairs and fell into midcard purgatory, now he rarely gets microphone time, he has had no real direction or storylines to work with in the last 2 and a half years, he's just another guy on the roster which is an unfortunately typical occurrence for many WWE wrestlers who smack into the glass ceiling without breaking it.
I think he's solid in the ring but with the current crop of talent both on the main show and waiting in the wings he's clearly outmatched on straight up wrasslin', he needs something to actually work with to stand out more now. While part of me hopes that recent events may lead him to be a McMahon's most reliable lackey (more so if Vince does branch off from Trips as rumours suggest) it's much more likely that he was just a midcard heel readily available for Bryan to reliably defeat as some sort of sidestory since Cena wasn't going to be doing much on the road to Summerslam and with last weeks cage match i'm sure the book is closed on that little mini feud.
Considering that the Nexus storyline along with Kane's WHC run salvaged my flagging interest in WWE back in 2010 i'd be pretty gutted if Barrett never gets another shot like that, while a lot of WWE's promising talent are a bit awkward when speaking Barrett stood out as someone who was rather confident on the microphone which I at least think is certainly something still worth trumpeting, though if they don't try anything with him soon then he's likely missed the last boat available for him to at least reach the upper card.

Barret has had good matches with Jericho, Bryan, and I saw a good one against Justin Gabirel on Superstars. Even that Miz match the night after he lost the title was good even if it was mostly the crowd creating the hype. He's a good worker but he is always either getting burried or on a push he hasn't really been in many competitive matches. Its hard to have a good match when your not allowed to have much offense or its just a squash match.

Kind of like Chris Jericho qualifying for the 2005 Royal Rumble by beating Muhammad Hassan at a house show before Hassan debuted on TV, then Hassan still getting a match to qualify for the Rumble.

I got around to seeing Cena/Punk Raw Feb 25th. That was a fantastic match. Legit shook watching Punk hit Cena with the Piledriver. I was in disbelief for a good 30 secs. And that sit out powerbomb by Cena was pretty ace as well. On a technical level it was better than their MITB 2011 match, which I also watched today again, but the crowd there made that match more special.

To this day, Heenan tearing up at his HOF induction when he said he wished Monsoon was there is probably the saddest wrestling moment ever for me. More than any deaths and tribute shows. Never has there been a moment with more feels to me. It makes me want to cry just thinking about it.

Oh, after reading the comments, seems they clarified on Twitter, the Sting match is non-title; that's a bummer. Awesome that he's having to face a member of A/8 in two weeks... was kind of hoping they might give AJ Styles a title shot since he's not in the top 4 (there is the Gauntlet Match I guess), since he managed to knock Devon out of the picture. Be awesome to see Hardy vs. Styles at BFG for the title... but pretty certain the chances of that happening are SLIM.
