New DriveClub video shows day/night transition

It's amazing how good launch PS4 games look already, it's a great value for the amount of performance you're getting. I don't mind the lack of AA, but I usually prefer framerate/effects over AA. Day 1 along with Knack.

So folks, try this on for size: I couldn't work out how to convert the Gamersyde DC night vid to Vita format, but I thought of the next best thing... look up Driveclub videos on YT to see how the game will probably look when you use remote play.

Good to see so much interest in this racing game. I really dug that track. In the other videos that I watched it felt like the driver was racing along some sort of track that you'd see in Dirt 3. This track looks more like an actual racing track which is what I enjoy.

You know, PS3>Vita remote play looks pretty much 1:1 for me.

Which textures?

As for the AA, read the OP.

The background mountain textures looked pretty bad to be fair. Not that you'll notice when playing the game and it's not a big deal by any means. It's pointless putting intricate detail into a fast moving racer anyway as you never stop to admire any part of the track.

It's also 1080p :( (Vita max playable res is 720p)

It's H.264/AVC - the Vita can play it back as it is.

Edit - yeah it's the profile which is too high (4.2) not the resolution.

I think their last youtube video quality was far better than the gamescom video. They changed the resolution or something to reduce loss. Have you simply tried watching the youtube video on the vita?

EDIT - Disregard. Just saw the original post! :)

Is the last screenshot the first time they've shown 4 cars on track? I just don't remember seeing any pics with more than 2 in one frame

Ah must have missed that. It's looking good but I really wish they didn't have those turning flags. When you put so much effort on the environment, why would you cover it up with flags?

Haha. Well the flags serve a purpose, right? The colors suggest recommended speed. I guess that's the problem when things look so good. We don't want the HUD, we don't want the flags. Heck, I might just pull over during a race to absorb the environment!

It'd be great if you had the option to remove them along with the HUD.

Actually, I don't think the flags are color-coded for speed. They're actually the colors/logo of the Club with the best stats around that corner. So your Club "owns" corners on tracks in the game.

I agree. After initial knowing the track, they will look intrusive as major trackside distractions. Please EVO, get notes.

My wife got to play Driveclub earlier today on an actual PS4 and said it looked incredible (for what that's worth). I can't believe such an opportunity was wasted on her and she has had chance to use that majestic Dualshock 4 before me. If I'd have had prior warning I would have had her film it, or sneak me in.

This game needs free roam like Test drive Unlimited 2. Sucks that I won't be able to cruise around.
GTA5 is my current TDU replacement. No joke ;P You've got a full day/night cycle, weather, damage, customizations, street racing, off-roading, even traffic and cops.

And oh yeah, you can do other stuff in that game too, or so I've heard.

Open world driving ftw.

Going to sound silly, but the open world, amazing vistas, night, day, sunset, crazy fast cars around exotic locations with immense atmosphere etc racing, in GTA V of all games, has been some of the most enjoyable I've ever experienced. Seriously captures the thrill of driving in these expansive varied amazing locales really well. Only in a much more arcadey style than most racers. I think the traffic, off road elements etc add a layer of fun which naturally DriveClub won't have, but hopefully DriveClub will be a next gen, more realistic, deeper version of something similar, only with that added immense attention to detail and driving finesse.

There are some new gameplay videos of DC from TGS, but they're from the same track shown at GC. And apparently, the same old build, the AA problem is the same, much worse than on the new video showing day/night transition.

What the hell, man? ;/

I've sent this message to her. Prepare for a divorce.

what I'm most excited about DriveClub that I think many people often dismiss (we mainly only talk about the visual of the game) is the mini challenges, the competitive aspect of it beyond just getting 1st place. I tried some racing game online, and often times, other player are so good that they left me in the dust and at that point it didn't felt any different than playing alone.

I like the mini mission this game have, I felt it makes me still in the same race and still fighting against someone instead of racing alone in the track since they are so far away, also, the addition of team racing make it more interesting too instead of everyone competing for 1st place, in team versus, every player contribute some point from the mini mission the game have in a track.

it's also bring some variety during the match, and I think imo, will encourage player to try master each of those challenges since they can easily see if they're doing it wrong or not. often times in racing games, I'm not sure how to approach a corner and even after I passed it, I'm not sure if I got it right or bad. the score system hopefully will help making you know how well you did in a corner and can steadily try to improve each corner.
