the controller..tell us
  • The controller is very, very, very unergonomical compared to X360. It's smaller, the feeling is kind of like you are using a DualShock3.
  • The move distance of sticks is a little bit smaller, than the one in X360. I really thought about PS Vita sticks while playing.
  • Bumpers are totally connected to triggers. There isn't any piece of plastic (like in DS4) in-between trigger and bumper (clearly seen on video I edited in) so in 30-40% maybe you would miss the trigger and hit the bumper.
  • The vibration is a lot less than on X360.
  • The D-Pad is deepened into controller and it's really awkward. As in X360, DS3, DS4 it's slightly above the surface of controller. So while you try to press it on XBO gamepad moving your left thumb down from left stick you hit nothing, then you have to spend a second to find d-pad and actually press it. Really strange.
In order for you to not think that I am biased - I was the biggest basher of DS3 ever and also a huge fun of X360 gamepad :(

I played on my friends account last night and it looks terrible. But of course, it's the beta, the game isn't 100% finished yet and it was on a 360 which come Nov. 22 will be the ugliest version of BF4.

I actually thought my PS3 beta version for BF3 was pretty ugly. So don't forget...360/PS3 versions will look pretty week compared to PC/PS4/One

How was the map you played on?

The map was ok but definitely consisted of reused Scrapmetal assets (BF3 CQ map pack). This was domination so the map was quite small - as in BF3CQ. There were 3 hangars, 2 flags in them, one flag outdoors. Some tunnels underneath the hangars. Some ladders to get on top of buildings, holes in roofs so that you could shoot the guys in hangars.

Having played BF3 on PC, I was never a fan of BF3 on current hardware, had it on PC, 360 and PS3, the current gen console versions were gimped pieces of shit compared to the PC version, the main gripe being 24 player limits, in BATTLEFIED. What the fuck.

BF4 XBO
  • I played it on the business day of Igromir ("Game World" on English) in Moscow.
  • The resolution was definitely 720p, running mostly 60fps.
  • The game looks slightly better than Xbox 360 version of BF3 (I would say 50% better, no where near those videos of Paracel Storm gamescom build). Though textures are a lot better than on X360, some god rays, lots of foliage on the map.
  • It was a new build with Domination on Zavod 311. No vehicles. Though everything is unlocked.
  • For some strange reason player movement speed is VERY limited. It's like the sprint speed is somehow similar to the walking speed in BF3. I think it was this particular build fault. Cause on X360 the speed is ok.
  • The controller is SO SHITTY I couldn't even aim properly (and got 55 eagle in X360 version and 20th level in PS3 version). EDIT: added my small gamepads comparision.
  • The game ran on Xbox One debug kits. I saw one, it was black and I couldn't make any photo. There wasn't any local network mode, they used Windows server for the 26 machines.
  • The game supports kinect for voice commands, leaning with your head behind the corners and some other stuff. You can choose the language of voice commands.

If you have any questions - feel free to ask.

If you had to guess what would you say were equivalent PC settings?

You don't know much about this stuff, do you?

didn't change much graphically from bf3 beta to retail...Same with BC2. Most things they are doing now is game balancing and bug squashing, and server stuff.

If people are expecting a significant boost in graphics when it launches they are delusional.

When I realised that i can go to Igromir, all VIP tickets were gone. But i guess it's not a huge loss. No Titanfall, apparently no KZ:SF playable for public..

I've been playing the 360 beta for a bit. Looks horrible, but don't forget that BF3 360 had an optional texture install in the full game. I would be shocked if they didn't have another of those for the retail version of BF4.

Damn, that sounds terrible. Can't believe they messed up what was almost the perfect controller...

One question, were the impulse triggers working? How was the feedback on those?

You can read my impressions above. But overall - it looked like Xbox 360 BF3 on steroids and 60fps.
I have read your impressions for which I am grateful, but reading that it really doesn't sound too good. Thanks for your information and have a nice day.

could never
Damn what Timurse just said has me worried... no wonder the X1 version hasn't been shown or talked about if that is how it looks and feels.

I don't know. The vibration was very weak actually. And any special vibration beside the common one - I didn't feel it at all.

Thanks. Sounds like the game doesn't support them or they weren't activated. Also surprised that the rumble was weak.

I'm still stunned they managed to screw up the controller. I just don't know how such a thing could happen.

Saw your gamepad vid, what did you think of the DS4?

huh, I did not expect these at all. Seems like by trying to make too many changes they inadvertently made some mistakes.

Ohh man, i thought the Xbone controller was the shit.

God damn it.

Anyway, ill test it out tomorrow myself and see how things go.
Ill make sure to add my impressions of the DS4 and Xbone.
Coming from a fan of the X360 controller and DS3 hate(not hater just not massive fan).

The whining in this thread is beyond ridiculous.

Guys, it's a PC (and next-gen) game running on dying current gen platforms. If anything, I'm surprised, heck even applause DICE, on getting it going as it does on X360/PS3.

which platforms do you suspect they plan to sell the most copies of their sixty dollar game on?

Those are borderline PS2 textures. Good grief.

So for a 1.56GB beta running 2 variations of the same map with vehicles on current gen console's just what should we expect?

It is what it is which isn't bad for this gen, but as we all know this is not the preferred route but just catering to the masses, really it's a PC or next gen title stuck in a console launch environment & all things considered isn't that bad.

Obviously the textures aren't finished, even bf3 360 had to run the HD pack install off disc post launch. I'm just curious given the circumstances of this launch what people actually expect from such titles on beta?
