I'm for 1080p, no matter the costs, however it's pretty clear resolution is not going to matter to 99% of people who buy the next-gen consoles.

Depending on how well your TV can upscale the source material, you will likely end up with a very clean image on the screen anyway. My brother has a Panasonic LED TV and I'm surprised at how good games like Batman Origins and GTA V look on the PS3. These are 720p games mind you, and after playing 1080p on my PC for a couple of years, I expected the resolution to look like pure shit.

Oh, certainly by no means do 720p PS3 games don't look like "shit." However, I alternate between gaming on my PC at 1080p and my PS3, and the difference of true 1080p on my native 1080p HDTV is glorious. The Last of Us, for example, looks very nice; but even in that game the overall visual experience is somewhat ruined by the aliasing and edge shimmer. At full 1080p, aliasing (and sub-pixel shimmering caused by said aliasing) is far less of an issue, to the point where I can appreciate the beauty of the game without distraction.

The differences are more noticeable the bigger your TV is.

See I read this and think "nope you're wrong" , then I go to the Amazon forums and read something like this -

720p and 1080p are tools and you need to you the right one for the right job
for example if your playing a large fast action online games 720p is best as you get better performance ,less lag , faster loading
like COD you will not believe the amount of times on the xbox360 I get called a hacker as I have turned the console down to 720p to reduce lag and take advantage of them using 1080p and the extra lag they will get for using it

but offline or single player games you can turn it up to 1080p and enjoy

I guess to a lot of people 720p is fine.

No, that guy is just an idiot. I wish there was a moratorium on pretending to know what's important to other gamers...

The guy on the Amazon forums is talking about upscaled 1080p versus 720p, using his 360's built-in scaler. That has nothing to do with the quality difference between native 1080p and 720p rendering resolution.

Btw, upscaled 1080p on the 360 does not increase lag, so that kid doesn't know what the hell he's talking about.

Some people are really underestimating the ability of the average Call of Duty fan to discern 1080p from 720p. I guarantee you that if you took an avid COD player (who plays ~5-7 hours per week on average), force him play the Xbox One version at 720p for a week, and then immediately transfer him over to the 1080p PS4 version, his words would be something akin to,

"Omfg, this looks soooo much better! What have I been missing all this time?"

I'm dead certain that would be the typical response.

Some people are also underestimating how much damage to the xbone's rep this news has done. Wasn't that one of the main reasons cited by quite a few gamers for choosing an xbox 360 over PS3. The better multiplat ports. It is a pretty big deciding factor for a lot of gamers.

Well we can put the facts that we have learned over the past week or so to come to a fairly correct assumption at this point. We know that at the 2K event there was no X1 version there and we know that CoD was shown by the head of IW on a PS4 on IGN this week. Plus the fact that a journo from gaming age came on here and said CoD is being reviewed on the 5th for every platform but on the 12th specifically for X1. The only logical explanation at this point is that Microsoft has placed a very strict embargo on anything Xbox One related until the 12th of November at least. They have obviously given the OK to show Battlefield 4 from EA next week because they feel its up to par maybe. I'm a big Xbox fan but this whole year has shown just how unprepared Microsoft has been for this launch and I definitely think they had planned to launch in 2014. Those plans changed of course after the February playstation meeting.

I agree - 1080p looks much, much better. However, most people simply won't care. My brother doesn't care that PC games run at '1080p'. He knows they feature better graphics, yet he still prefers to play PS3 games.

Comparing PC to consoles is apples to oranges though.

If word gets out that the PS4 is providing a better picture than XBone people will care. Look at the snowball affect of the DRM scandal. It starts in places like here and then ends up reaching the mainstream, especially in this age of social media.

Even people who can't tell the difference between the resolutions will care about the widespread notion that one of the two consoles is regarded the inferior one when it comes to multiplatform games. The message definitely reached the wider "softcore" audience last generation and hurt the PS3.

Lots of opportunities for Albert to finally get to know the resolution for those games since his company/colleagues won't tell the poor guy. Maybe he could ask and then get back to us with the information? That would be swell. lol

Albert most likely does know, but can't/won't spill his guts. If the game was at parity with the PS4 version, we would have heard about it by now.

Or maybe the Xbone version is in fact 1080p native and they're holding back that news to make GAF sweat and ultimately delegitimize us, making us the laughingstock of the Internet, leaving a void for the new hardest of the hardcore to fill, Daily Radar 2.0!

This could totally happen.

Just sayin' brah.

A few days ago Sessler, Gies, and Mitch Dyer from IGN were posting error codes in frustration. Then one of them would reply with something like "heh".

Then Sessler posted last night about being very frustrated, and Dyer replied suggesting he had "given up".

If we put that together, it's possible one of the consoles is having OS issues, causing game breaking consequences, which would be very irritating when trying to review a game.

Of course I could be totally wrong, just throwing in my 2 cents.

There was a rumor about one of them having OS issues, I believe it originally came from Proelite and was backed up by others. who knows what's going on though.

That sounds more like a preference of platform then resolution though. I don't like gaming on PC, but that doesn't mean i wouldn't love the PS3 to be rendering at the resolutions a PC can dish out.

I mean, if you asked him, would you rather play a game at 720p or 1080p. The chance of him going "erm, 720p...duh" are pretty damn slim.

You can't summon CBOAT. He just happens to pass through our dimension here and there. Hence communication jam, it's caused by rogue bozons passing through his transmission.

Speaking about insiders, does anybody know what happened to Tidux?

Fun fact: He's seeing an upscaled 1080p image in both cases. The question is just: does the TV scale or the 360? :)

Just read about resolution embargo.

I can't wait for release day.

All bullshit and mindfucking will end with next 5-6 DF comparisons of next gen multiplatform games.

Well Gies did review AC 4 on ps4 so I do not think it is the ps4 giving them problems. He would have said something to this effect earlier last week if it did as that is when he was playing AC4 for PS4.

If this carries over to launch, damn there no way you can recover from a cluster fuck like that.

Think of all the dudebros.

Erik Kain says many people know the resolution of the xbone version but are under embargo from Microsoft not activision

This is why again and again Albert is caught in his spin and lies. I can't stand the guy. Again blunt false information was given.

I laugh how he insist as the only person who doesn't know the answer . Especially since they are the one stopping people from saying it. Which was pretty evident when Adam stated the resolution and FPS. if there was a restriction set then why was Adam able to say it.

In all fairness Albert did come here and told us he was explicitly denied technical knowledge of COD. That's pretty daming to Microsoft in itself.

In the original thread that broke all this I was told about OS crashes and instability and Xbox Live matchmaking problems by Proelite and he considered these to be bigger problems for MS than 720p CoD.

Not even that, he strongly suggested that 720p is just fine compared to 1080p. With that mindset ONE does understand why ONE is what it is. :)

It's super secret sensitive 3rd party info that is to be compartmentalized within MS.
Do you think this is a motherfucking game or something? It's CIA-level shit brah. No kidding with that kinda stuff.

He can't say it because of his job, which is PR eg announcing good news for MS. Fair enough... no need to make it personal imo.

I'm wondering if the 1080p resolution will be in effect during split screen as well. It would make a HUGE difference, especially in 4 player, if each player got more pixels to work with.

I think his issues is not about the worst or better version of the games... it is about that he can't do his job because some pressure from some companies.

Yeah, probably about content, reviews they already produced that for some reason can't control the release or being forced to modify.

Yes it's his job but doesn't GAF stand for open discussion? If he's going to purposely muddle the waters, "just doing his job" is not a good enough excuse. Albert tries to present himself as not just a marketing guy because GAF is very suspicious of PR people. He needs to prove it by either being open with his information or not comment at all if he feels like he can't tell the truth.

What are all these random tweets from Sessler and Gies suggesting? I don't get it.

I don't either and it makes the whole situation stink. I never remember a console launch like this. Obviously social media playing a bigger role contributes to this, but there's too many cryptic messages going on.

That's why I like Mort. Always to the point.

Such bullshit to embargo technical stuff like that. I'm glad I wasn't planning on buying a Xbone, because I'd be pissed off at Microsoft for putting embargo's on shit like that.

Hmm, to those saying that it won't matter to the average person... I have to disagree. I remember when I worked at game retail during the whole Madden 30/60fps debacle and it was a pretty big deal to a lot of people who normally don't frequent message boards.

Aside from that, I can't tell you how many times people would ask what the best version was for any given game. People aren't as ill informed as GAF seems to think.
