BBC, Demand 5 And IGN Video Services Confirmed For UK PS4 Launch

Lock if old:

As you can see from the screenshot above, the UK PlayStation 4 currently has BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport, Channel 5′s Demand 5 service and also the IGN app. No sign of Netflix, Lovefilm, NowTV, ITV, 4OD or BlinkBox.

Some of these apps should arrive on the PS4 after – or perhaps even in the run up to – launch, Netflix told us their “goal is to be on every device”.

Nice, I'll take all those. I take it Netflix and stuff is on there too?

Edit: I didn't read the article. I presumed wrong.

There's no good reason for Netflix not to be on this from Day 1. But since it's still not on the Vita I won't be shocked if it takes them a while anyway.

Is the BBC player found on xbox1? Isn't there law that prevents it from being behind the gold paywall?

No Netflix on launch is terrible. I think Netflix hasn't even been on Vita yet. Not having something as vital as Netflix on launch is a huge deal, if they cannot get Netflix withing the first 2 months that would be unforgivable. I know many people who watch Netflix on their game consoles.

Based on the list from a while back netflix will be there day one (no youtube though) i didn't know ign would be on there though, that's pretty cool.

That was what delayed the iPlayer app for the 360. I don't know if it's there at launch on the Xbox One but either way it won't be until it's outside the paywall.

Surprising that iPlayer hasn't came to XB1 but BBC managed to put it on the PS4.

What's the confirmed video services for Xbox One? Microsoft did have the list but was launch window.

The list above* is just the first wave of third-party apps that are coming to Xbox One over the course of the next few months.

Will be pretty basic if they only have Demand5 of the main catch up channels. I'm sure we'll find out tomorrow.

I don't think the BBC wouldn't have any problems with the PS4 version, they worked quite closly with Sony to get it on the PS3.

No idea why netflix would make the US launch but not the UK launch except for licensing or agreement problems

Wonder what it is assuming it doesn't make it

Well European Vita owners have been wondering that since launch too and they still don't have Netflix on their device.

Netflix better make. Not like a special app is needed for the UK. If not, hopefully we can just sign into an American account and download it.

You should at least wait until next week before making assumptions about what's available for launch. I doubt that Netflix and Lovefilm won't be there day one.

I think the Xbox One launch tomorrow will give us an indication of what to expect. Although there might be differences (iPlayer).

This. It is a shame if it isn't there for launch, especially as it is there on the US PSN. But hopefully we can download it with a US PSN account - worked on PS3 and vita and you can log in with a UK Netflix account

A Netflix rep on the matter... not exactly coherent;

Great question. We supply the content to them which since they have apps here. They create the apps itself and it is up to them which are supported and they need to add that to the devices we do not control that at all

So they do release that to that. So basically just waiting for a agreement between us and the manufacture since it is already on their device. It is up to them to release that in that region.

Apps i want for the PS4 are these:

- Netflix
- Sky GO
- Spotify (with background music play)
- YouTube

I want Sony to basically get every service in existence on this device, my choice of apps may not be someone elses cup of tea, so by bringing everything, it caters for everyone. Common Sony... and Microsoft.

I want Netflix with 'play on' support so I can find things on my iPad and play them on my PS4, then YouTube and iplayer.

All media apps should be controllable from the play station app as well, so I don't need my DS4 on all the time. Voice commands for pause and mute would be handy too

Nice to see those there and hopefully more will follow. I have to assume Netflix is coming, but then it's STILL not on the Vita in the UK so who fucking knows.

Struggling to think of any reason anyone would want to use an on demand app for channel 5...

Someone might have a gun to their head.

You can't discriminate against the blackmailed and those held hostage Carl. Tut tut.

I'm sorry, that thought completely skipped my mind. I was sat here trying to think of any programme on 5 that people might care about missing... :p

I'm hoping they'll support the native keyboard. No idea why all the TV apps on the PS3 used their own input system.

iPlayer at launch? Huh I would have thought that would take ages, excellent news to be sure.

Lack of Netflix is troubling though, although I don't see the PS4 replacing the excellent Wii U Netflix app in my house (which until I get 3D world is the only use my Wii U gets at the moment)

Huh?
EU Vita owner here who's had Netflix since day one.

edit: oh actually I think it got it from the US psn store. Still not officially available in EU? What?

I think you can't even get it from the US store anymore as they Locked the memory cards to accounts. Luckily I still have mine from before they did that, and it still works. I don't understand why it isn't available though?

There are rules about the BBC iPlayer not appearing behind paywalls since its main source of revenue is the licence fee. As someone mentioned, it's why it took so long to appear on the 360.

My missus is going to rip the piss out of me if Netflix isn't Day 1 on top of the video non-playback stuff too.

This isn't a confirmed list , it's what's on the console pre release.

Lets wait on Sony actually announcing the list before we freak out. No Netflix and Lovefilm would just be weird.
