Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 3: Ridley's Believe It or Not!

Uhmmm... I thought Rosalina was too big compared to Mario and Peach to make her presence make sense.

She seems to be able to size herself for different situations. She is about Peach-sized when Mario meets her in Galaxy. But at the end,
when she sends Mario back to the Mushroom Kingdom, she is TITANIC. Like maybe 20x larger than Mario.

Rosalina looks like she plays pretty differently than the other fighters, so that's awesome.

But is this really coming out in the spring? I feel like we know almost nothing besides the new characters.

I don't think this is coming out in the spring. If it was, they would have said so.

Her profile is partly up on the website, and curiously the url is http://www.smashbros.com/us/characters/rosetta.html

I wonder if they're using fake character names temporarily so people can't just guess newcomers before they're uploaded?

Edit: now its a broken link, hmmm.

I think Rosetta is her japanese name if I'm correct.

Still think we're getting Alph as a Olimar clone too, not sure about Jimmy but we may get some kinda Wario rep.

I still think Alph is in the game since Nintendo of America tweeted Alph being in the game but they backtracked the step and corrected themselves that it's Olimar. I found it weird.

Not really a character you'd get hyped for but I appreciate the fact that Sakurai introduced a puppet-style fighting game character to Smash. She plays nothing like ICs, their only similarity begins and ends as a duo character.

Exactly, that's what made me hyping for her.

Look so goooood.

She can change size or at least the appearance of her size, much like Palutena (who will also be in pls)

Wouldn't be surprised if her FS has her become a cosmic level size or something.

Well she is "god" right?

Holy shit I just realised. Playable God in Smash?
Palutena confirmed?

Edit: Also in all this rush, I only just realised I'm a member now! Yay!

DK seems to have gone from being the coolest dude around to a bit of a dimwitted ape. Sad times.

Needs more boom box!

Yeah, ol' DK has had a bit of an identity crisis since Retro took him over, or at least that's how it feels. But he's never been solid across franchises. For instance, I feel like he's always been something of an idiot in Mario Kart.

Call me crazy, but I feel like Rosalina's announcement improves Palutena's chances. It shows that Sakurai thinks it's important to add more female characters, because Rosalina definitely did not get in solely on merit.

Congratulations to all the Rosalina fans out there! :)

I made this post in a separate thread, but I thought I'd copy it here to share my thoughts with you fellows:

Besides the unnecessary trolling in the trailer, I was really pleased with this reveal. Rosalina was by far the best fifth representative for the Mario Bros. franchise. (or sixth or seventh, counting Yoshi and Wario). Sakurai also did surprisingly well with her moveset, from what we've been shown. Her model and play style seem to fit in just fine with the Smash cast.

From a very, very, very premature competitive standpoint, here are some general thoughts:

+ Luma acts as a dispensable Nana that offers (seemingly retarded) range and presence. Can be revived an infinite (?) amount of times with the wave of a wand, but seems easy to kill off.
+ Juggling and follow ups seem to be a natural part of her moveset
+ Her recovery is above average in both horizontal and vertical planes
+ Utility is granted in being able to block/repel projectiles
+ They give the chick a meteor smash... Oh boy!
- A little floaty
- Seemingly lightweight
- Her knockback seems to be produced only from Lumas, whereas the hitbox on her person is much less powerful as far as launching is concerned

And to anyone who's worrying that she's going to "replace the Ice Climbers": Nope. She won't play much anything like them. Their only similarity is that they have a dual presence on the map. But this duo will likely have no grab game (Luma is more of an tool than its own entity) and will likely focus much more heavily on combos and zoning and the like.

Anyway, I'll say again that I'm very pleased! Sakurai chose a great character and executed her adaption into the series flawlessly. This also means no Bowser Jr. or Waluigi, which I'm just as giddy about.

GGWP everyone

I also noticed this at 1:48-1:49 she has super armor, possibly when the white luma is out or super armor on the move. Also at 1:50 possible float cancel.

Rosalina looks fantastic for 1 on 1, but since she goes into an animation whenever she gets Luma to do anything it seems like she might fall apart in 4 player free-for-alls. Really looking forward to using her regardless; she seems tricky and has a lot of potential.

No instant airdodge pit?

You have to realize that when they showed Brawl trailers, characters also didn't air dodge when they were getting combo'd -- or that is to say, the character/player getting combo'd didn't make a conscious effort to air dodge/press L or R.

They want the game to look good, the game won't look good if Pit air dodged out of that combo.

We won't know if you can cancel hitstun with an air dodge like Brawl until we have it in our hands. There's no point in analyzing the footage for hitstun or when hitstun ends lol. Especially because typically you could air dodge (in Brawl) before hitstun even ended.

Bingo. It's nice to look at the combo tho.

Yea that's how I see it. She seems like she has the potential to be rather technical where spacing matters, at this point at least. I will definitely try her out!

I caught that too, but I didn't know what to make of it. Even after watching it a few more times, still don't understand fully what's going on.

Her (neutral special/aerial?) spin also gravitates items nearer to her. A pretty cool gimmick, albeit likely irrelevant in competitive. (Check the scene with Marth on Battlefield.)

AW YISS Rosalina & Luma! I never stopped believing, even after 3D World's release and the Galaxy stage reveal came and went! I knew she'd make a great newcomer!

I am SO HYPED. I love that she/they look to play like a more awesome Ice Climbers! Could not be happier right now, and the "Rosalina would be a horrible choice and will never make it in, she's just a Peach clone" haters look really silly right about now. :D

I'm nervous that Smash 4 is literally giving me every character I've ever seriously wanted in a Smash game. This has never happened for me before. Mega Man, Rosalina, Sonic, Toon Link... law of averages says something has to go wrong, right? :p

I'm also really happy that this handily debunks that unsettling rumor about Pac-Man, Little Mac, and Mii being the only remaining newcomers. Whew!

All right, it's going to be awhile before we get another newcomer, so hopefully we see Zelda and Ness soon!

BACK TO THE ROSALINA HYPE!

Yeah, I think we've seen the air dodge since Sakurai's developer footage on Villager. If I recall correctly, however, he later mentioned in an interview that even things such as the airdodge are still undergoing changes and are likely to alter in some matter by the time they're done with development. That said...I don't expect wavedashing to make a return, but I don't necessarily think it's necessary for an advanced and competitive metagame, either.

From what we've seen overall, I have high hopes for this game, both in the casual and professional sense.

We've known its had the Brawl air dodge -- the question remains whether they made any changes to it to make it less retarded (i.e landing lag when you air dodge near the ground). There was no chance he was going back to the old air dodge as I'm 99% sure Sakurai and tons of other casuals looked at the Melee air dodge as "useless" for its intended purpose (to dodge moves in the air).

Could've done a mix of both but I really think the hyper/elite casuals would be mad if Sakurai embraced wavedashing lol.

Hey as long as abominations like Waluigi and Daisy aren't playable then I'm cool. Just watching the trailer though, Rosalina must've taken considerable effort to design, in fact I think all 4 newcomers so far are fantastic and put Smash characters from the 64/Melee era to shame. (...which is why I was hoping they would've received more changes)

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
All the revealed and rumored characters so far made it appears as if possibly Sakurai was gonna focus on new series as opposed to expanding older ones, but it appears that's not the case.

I'm not a big fan of Rosalina, but it shows that Sakurai isn't above adding in some slightly "less orthodox" representatives from the pre-existing series, giving me hope for, say, King K. Rool or Genesect.

Now Marina never being in smash is gonna make me sad ;_;

She is third party character (game by treasure and published by Enix in Japan) ... she has like 0 chances of being in.

And if she was in, I would expect a Assist trophy at MAXIMUM like Sin & Punishment rep

I've "known" Rosalina was gonna be in since 3D World released, she just is the only Mario rep that made sense to me.

Wish I had came in this thread and made a bet on it or something, cuz this is the first character prediction I've ever been right on aside from Wario for Brawl but who didn't see that coming?

I think the Rosalina reveal opens the door for many new series reps, considering their potentially up to 7 Mario characters now. I'm guess in we'll get some new Zelda reps.
Please, Sakurai
