I hope Fallout 4 looks better than that. Skyrim with ENB can be one of the best looking games available with the right mod setup and craps all over Fallout.... but the flaws of that engine still shine through even with ENB slathered on top. I hope they're cooking up something good.


It's the bane of modding it : You can make it look utterly breathtaking but all of it is held together by a crappy engine .

But the number one thing i want changed (Apart from the engine ) is the removal of that 4GB ram cap

Me too, but I don't think they will release a 64 bit version only :(

Every next gen game and upcoming game for console and PC has been confirmed as using 64 bit exclusively with 32 bit being totally dropped .


Now i understand this is Bethesda we are talking about here .but somehow i doubt they are going to to be the one odd duck out there still using a 32 bit executable .

My sentiments exactly... Never understood the reason to do this - always looks crap compared to real-time and even takes up more space as it is a video file.

Cut down on loading, make it seamless hurr durr!

I'll take a few seconds of loading any day of the week thank you.

So sick and tired of shitty FMVs.

Quality > Convenience.

This is a problem with going DD. Everyone will encode FMVs like shit at low resolution in the name of a small download. (And even when they are offered as DLCs like Lost planet 3, still tons of issues and artifacts. Cuz Bink.)

I'd rather have a download that takes up twice as much size if they are going to use tons of FMVs and not encode them properly. This is 2013/14. Quit not wanting to take the extra effort for real quality and make use of the better quality codecs available today and stop using Bink like a crutch just because it's light on CPU load and 15+ years old.


It creates not a seamless experience but an incredibly jarring one. ESPECIALLY, on PC. And once more games go native 1080p on consoles it will be even more so there too.
They've got 50GB of Blu-Ray space, shouldn't waste it. Games have to install? Install game data. Stream video off disk when needed. Offer low res FMV and high res FMV version for DD. Or just low res. Whatever.

Ok so i decided to take a risk and go to the dark side of Half life 2 modding and try out the Cinematic mod 2013 version .

And to be quite honest . after expecting the worst i must say i was actually surprised how good it looks in places .
Sure. it it's nowhere close to Fallout /skyim level of texture mod's but to say that it makes the world look utterly abominable is Wrong in my opinion .

About the character models : i can understand why people are put off by it (especially the Alyx models ) and the creator seems to have been aware of it as he allowed you to keep all the old character models while keeping everything else updated .

In the end it will have to come down to personal taste whether you like the new textures or not .
But for me it is quite passable .

Darkdeus is right, this game is excellent.

It just.... looks so.... dull :(

I guess that's realism for ya.

About the character models : i can understand why people are put off by it (especially the Alyx models ) and the creator seems to have been aware of it as he allowed you to keep all the old character models while keeping everything else updated .

I think the reason most people hate it are the character models. I could be wrong. Can't really complain about ruining the art style when people praise half the Skyrim stuff posted in here :p

Those shots actually seem rather nice looking. Not sure why the graffiti is necessary though.

Game has not aged well visually one bit, but I'm enjoying it. Found a script that helps with the Logitech fps issues automatically. Just need to wait till it's night time again. Game was scaring the shit outta me last night.

I LOVE this game. And personally aside from a few things I think it has aged very well for it's time. (Like the softshadows. Those are terrible. So is some of the specular mapping alignment and character models)

Have you tried using the 4xFSAA in game though? It's one of the few SSAA implementations in games that works extremely well and is near comparable to SGSSAA in this game.

Hence the models were ALWAYS optional AFIK. Ignore the models, use the original music if you want it. Personally I think it helps sell the story better than some of the vanilla stuff. (Which I think really at this point is only so because of it's age.)

This game has some very nice graphics. Shame about the HUD.

I used [Asmodean]'s DSFx Shader Suite v1.00. They come with a FXAA variant that's supposedly better than standard SMAA injection. Haven't done any real comparisons yet, but it's far better than driver FXAA, which I used in my previous screenshots.

I have to disagree. There is a lot more prominent aliasing with whatever this variant is.(edges,Ui, alpha test textures like trees,etc) At least to my eyes.

If you are referring to Nvidia's driver FXAA, I'm pretty sure it still doesn't show in screenshots.

It does if you printscreen it and save it with something like Photoshop. It's how I capture screenshots with driver FXAA on for AA comparisons.

Hmmm, I'll have to try it over SGSSAA tonight. Also nice to know the game has actually aged well in some respects, just hard to look past the places where it hasn't I guess lol.
