Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

More Jigglypuff mentions yay! Seguing into Jiggly, let's modify Jiggly's Up-B special and pretend Sing/Sleep effect goes active in charged smash attacks. What should her Up-B move be?

Hyper Voice or Dazzling Gleam seem obvious, but I'd go with the move, Round, an attack that hurts opponents with a song. Jiggly could belt out a projectile note. Could still cause sleep.
Well the Up-B needs to change somehow. It's useless right now...

There really aren't any characters that the Japanese fan base as a whole has latched onto, so it's tough to generalize. Mewtwo is definitely the most requested character, though. I'd probably say Palutena, Chrom, and Lucina are the most talked about potential newcomers. Come to think of it, practically every Pokémon, Kid Icarus, and Fire Emblem character has fans over there.

How do fans over there feel about Zoroark's chances? Does he have a lot of support?

Nah, let's put in Shadow. Then he can use guns and stuff.

People said the same thing about Rosalina. If Sakurai wants the character in, he will come up with an interesting moveset.

With the Rosalina reveal, it made me wonder if the team doesn't think up of interesting fighting styles first, and then match it to a character.

Some people lack imaginative brain function.

"Oh the godess woman lady with the powers of the universe at large has no moveset for smash. "

Even though its done, remembering people even had that notion makes me agitated.

Or wonder red. "It would be too hard to implement a character from a 3D brawler into nintendo's 2d brawler. It simply can't be done."

That would make sense for any other fighter, except smash brothers

I'M FINISHED!

Um exCUSE me Sakurai but CLEARLY the best choice for Smash Bros would be my fav niche character HOWEVER you are clearly INCOMPETENT and
I find the 3DS battlefield a lot more pleasing to look at than the WiiU one.

I would challenge you to a fight but we probably wouldn't be able to agree on which field to battle in.

I have a thing about some of those Sonic characters. Shadow to me just feels so lazy, on Sonic Team's part.

He's dark Sonic, with a gun! And Time manipulating powers, and red streaks in his hair...

Leather jackets and pistols.... Might aswell give him tats, and what not. So "cool".

Not worse than Silver, though...

I still don't understand the obsession with wanting Little Mac in SSB. A boxer; No powers or abilities. Boring design.

So many more interesting characters out there, IMO.

I'm not at all sure what Mac's moveset would look like, but Punch-Out is easily Nintendo's biggest untapped trove of stylish, beloved characters, and it's one of the few franchises that goes all the way back to their arcade days. The series ought to have someone around. Mac's the obvious choice, being the player character, but it'd also be a lot of fun to see someone like Soda Popinski, Super Macho Man, or King Hippo take the field. Or hell, Glass Joe for the comedy value. Opponents have a wider range of abilities to work with, too.

Shadow is a perfect example of bad character design. Silver is even more perfect.

I thought Shadow was pretty cool in SA2, but he just kept getting worse as time went on.

So yeah, Knuckles or Tails would be much more fit showing up somehow.

If Lucas and Ness can learn PK moves from their teammates then Little Mac could take some of the flashy signature moves from some of the enemies he's faced. He could totally do that separate-into-three-guys thing the Indian guy does, for example

Sometimes you need "bland" characters to make the others stand out more. Being boring would almost make Mac interesting.

I have made this same point. I also think that utilizing star punches in his moveset will give him that Nintendo flair, and keep him from seeming too pedestrian.

I think this would make a solid newcomer cast:
Villager
Wii Fit Trainer
Megaman
Pacman
Mii
Little Mac
Rosalina
Palutena
Takamaru
Chrom & Lucina
Ridley
Mewtwo
Dixie Kong

*maybe an additional Zelda or Pokemon rep and this assumes they can make Ridley work which I firmly think they could if they wanted.

I can't speak for Japanese fans but I believe its important how marketing has quietly but noticeably moved away from using him for advertising. He was pushed hard as the next Lucario but it ultimately failed. I mentioned it before but I could see them doing something interesting like making Zoroark transform into any character on the roster but not allow the player choose what character you can transform into for that round. It's an unique character idea that I could see Sakurai go for but other than that I'm not sure I'd want another Lucario/Mewtwo style pokemon appear when there is so much variety and choices to choose from.

.

How?

bad character design would mean people wouldn't like him. He is like most popular sonic character.. besides sonic.

Apparently everyone else needs to start rocking either blue or red and black.

You don;'t have to like it, to say he design isn't effective is a damn lie.

I have a thing about some of those Sonic characters. Shadow to me just feels so lazy, on Sonic Team's part.

That is an interesting opinion.

Besides going fast they aren't that much alike.

Besides looking alike. which I would counter with this. They are the same animal. In sonic either you are the same

color

Knuckles reconnected peeps in the comic
And blaze the cat and big the cat

Shape

Knuckles people in the game
The hedgehogs

Or both
Vanilla and cream

This is why I never got the " his design is lazy" actually his design for people of the same species is not only consitant with in the sonic artstyle, he is visually distictive unlike knuckles people who just various shades of reds. The bunnies who are just .. vanilla and cream colored ( hehehe ) . And the cats that are just purple, cuz they cool like that.

Leather jackets and pistols.... Might aswell give him tats, and what not. So "cool".
He does not have a jacket, he should have a dante jacket. The fact that he doesn't seems like a missed opportunity.

Also doesn't tails have a plane with machine guns on it?

However while I do not believe his game meant to portray him as serious as everyone took him. Or tried, they failed at communicating that, so I completely understand you not liking him for that.

Not worse than Silver, though...

That is big the cat.

I'd be all for pacman if he was the sad-sack husband again. Not interested otherwise.

Switch Dixie for Simon Belmont and I'd find that to be a perfect roster update.

A lot of people like him, and a lot of people hate him. That doesn't really have anything to do with it.

First of all he was never really an interesting character, he's a pallet swap of Sonic who takes the role of an antihero, and his dark mysterious past is his motivation. That kind of trope can sometimes be forgiven or fitting, but after Shadow the Hedgehog I can absolutely not take that character seriously.

As for the way he looks, black has never seemed fitting for a main character in Sonic's universe. There's a reason the original trio were primary colors. Black and red is garish.

That's about all I'm going to say on that.

@Mista Koo: You're a good man.
I still like Impa though.
No, you just misunderstood me. My comment was supposed to diss Mike Jones :(

I don't mind Impa since I never switch to Zelda while playing as Sheik, but having both is as redundant as having 2 Links.

I think there is more interesting Sonic characters out there. Knuckles, Bean, and Bark. Knack, and even Amy.

And it's not hard to be popular in the Sonic fandom. Most of their fanbase eat up that kind of stuff, no offense to anyone who likes them. But then again, I could just be being an Old-fart with my dislike for some of the newer characters. lol

Actually it does , it means his design was effective.

First of all he was never really an interesting character,
That is subjective, and people would argue other wise. But please assert your views as if they are the one true view.

Hmm seems like someone forgot that shadow isn't the only person who shares a species. And looks like another character because of that, and he still has visual distinction hmm.

That's about all I'm going to say on that.
I hope not, that wasn't a very strong argument.

Just kind of a 4chan-eque spew of buzzwords with little explanation.

I'm thinking that Paper Mario would be a natural and obvious choice for a newcomer. The character is distinct enough versus its progenitor (like Toon Link), and has starred in four of his own games now. There is also great potential for interesting paper-themed moves and stages, plus 2D characters are a concept already well established by Mr. Game and Watch.

Duck Hunt Dog is more likely than a second Sonic rep.

Come on son.

Actually it kind of is, the only other character to become super popular to any degree close to shadow is blaze. Japan however despite not really liking sonic, likes silver for some reason he still isn't very much liked, but they really like silver for some dumb reason.. Most characters get pushed to the side or forgotten even old ones. Shadow and Blaze and cream to some degree managed to cement them selves in sonic.

Big is the best character the series has produced, bar none.

No sarcasm, no lie.

I like big the cat.
But I still concider him a scourge the the planet.

Just a giant add for sega fishing games

What about a chili dog?

I could go for one of those.

Sonic always knew what was up.

I'm hoping Snake never comes back. He doesn't deserve to be in a Nintendo game after literally nothing on the platform in years. Plus he never fit in, not aesthetically nor in any other way.

Replace him with Pac-Man (or Klonoa, don't care).

I used to be a Mii proponent, but after Wii Fit trainer (casual char) and Villager (player avatar char), I don't really want Mii in anymore.

Awesome tempura wizard avatar btw. He or Eggplant wizard NEED to be an assist trophy.

I agree. I know people are sick of mario reps, but there are so many good characters left. Kamek, Professor E. Gadd (using all of his inventions), baby bros (ice climbers clone), paper mario, etc.
