Yeah, pretty interesting that he's willing to admit there are development issues to reduce the controversy about hardware differences. We'll have to see in a year from now.

Yeah, they're willing to take admit some of the problems now, so the rate of de-weaseling should mean we'll get the full truth of shit in about half a year.

At the same time... He is both the worst PR person for Microsoft, and the best PR person for Sony.

He just has his head in the sand all the time doesn't he?

The difference between 30fps and 60fps is minor? If that's the case, drop your price to 250€, because, in fact, a factor of two on a very important aspect is apparently minor.

A LOT of people in the Tomb Raider thread pre-60fps-reveal said that the difference is minor. Of course that tune has changed.

The driver update defense has to be one of the worst defenses I have ever heard. Man the PS4 will just stay where it is and never improve.

“Look, I had a lot of time to think about this and I believe in what I said. I believe that the differences between the boxes [PS4 and Xbox One] is not all that great and I know what is going behind the scenes and I have access to more information about some of this thing than a lot of people. Sometimes people tend to neglect the points that are in my favor and they like to highlight the points that tell me I am wrong. I still think Ryse is still the best looking game on any platform. Period. End of story,” he said.

Oh now you have more information than rest of us? What about the time you were asking us what was the resolution of mutiplateform games? Penello...head shake.gif

It's not like he's going to say anything else. He's a PR guy for MS who has to make the product look good.

I can understand the need for damage control when negative information becomes available about a product or service that your company owns and controls. I'd just be happier with a little less spin and a little more honesty.

There are definitely better ways to mitigate damage than what has been said thus far.

i don't even. Why on earth would he double-down on it like this? I mean even the Xbox subreddit can't read this in a positive light.

It's also pretty messed up that he comes into these threads and pretends to be fair and making comments in good faith, and posts these same kind of statements despite what evidence says. He continues to appeal to "I have inside knowledge, keep waiting."

You don't think he goes on GAF for fun do you? Everything has a purpose.

His job is to talk though.

Sony has not needed to talk about why their console is inferior in voice features, and why it doesn't have YouTube yet.

There's dozens of things you can talk about your product without needing to even bring up your competition. Too bad MS just loves that rabbit hole, because their product allows gaps between multiplatform releases that are large enough to be news.

Ew. The first quote is borderline insulting.

"Period, end of story."

No, Albert, you don't get to determine when a story ends. All you get to do is try to spin it.

He needs to stop talking and responding to questions that aren't going to favour xbone. He's taking about magic shit going on behind the scenes at MS, implying that "greatness awaits"; does he think Sony aren't going to blow people away either? There is no scenario where an xbone game would not look better on PS4(all things being equal)

Does anyone honestly expect him to say anything different?

Yes. If he is going to blatantly lie, then I would prefer he not say anything at all.

He should be talking about the strengths of the xbone and getting out of the power war.

This works too, but I do not see how it is possible. He is going to get asked from here on out, "What is the resolution, frame-rate, etc."? You know Sony is going to be out there trumpeting the superiority of their console in multi-plats. I do not envy his position, I'm sure it is exceptionally difficult knowing that you are charging more for a less powerful machine.

Well, the same old, "The difference isn't that big," and, "I know more than you so you just have to trust me." I'll never understand why one would choose to slug it out in a tech debate when one doesn't actually have anything to back it up. Penello may claim he's not PR, but all I've ever heard out of him sounds a whole lot like PR.

That frame rate difference matters a lot in any game with lots of environmental detail and a free moving camera. Smoother motion, faster gameplay response, and it makes all those little next gen details like tress fx smoother and more noticeable.

Fuck that. That would be sensible. We can't be having him talk about the things the Xbone can do that the PS4 can't do.

We need to invent shit. Man, talk about being embarrassed about your own product. I named more things that are cool about the Xbone without lying than Albert ever did on here.

Its almost like by his logic the 'bone will continue to get better but the PS4 performance will apparently remain static.

He's so silly.

It's a shame all this awesome, super secret info you have isn't translating to results on screen.

Excellent spin by Mr. Penello. They've successfully dug themselves into a spec war, and rather than strategically climb out of it, it appears they're only interested in going deeper.

It's going to get ugly this year.

His job is to talk though.

PR doesn't need to respond to everything, especially the same controversy they've already responded to once before and made a similar stance. It's just making them look desperate and stupid at this point rather than doing any goodwill or trying to ease the masses.

This PR guy needs a PR guy that tells him when not to make statements that make you look confrontational.

I think if you look at the title which we launch, which were multiplatform titles. The bulk of them were the same. I think there were 12 titles were released on both platforms [PS4 and Xbox One], leaving three, all of them had the same performance on both boxes.

I really wonder why MS keeps bringing up the power difference. Has Sony even mentioned it since launch? MS just keeps bringing attention to the worst aspect of their system and gives their fans false hope that things will get significantly better, which causes way more fighting when the results come out.

People DO understand that Microsoft has some of the smartest graphics programmers IN THE WORLD. They CREATED DirectX, the standard API’s that everyone programs against. So while people laude Sony for their HW skills, do you really think they don’t know how to build a system optimized for maximizing graphics for programmers? Seriously? There is no way they’re giving up a 30%+ advantage to Sony. And ANYONE who has seen both systems running could say there are great looking games on both systems. If there was really huge performance difference – it would be obvious.
The frame rate differences line up with the tflop discrepancy almost perfectly in every case I've heard of.
