I remember watching this live. Everyone loves those big moments, those moments that change the game, when the seemingly impossible becomes reality, the moments of brilliance that you know they'll talk about for years to come. It might not have been a joyous moment (especially for the French) but I'm sure even 50 years from now, they'll still talk about this one.

The moment one of the games greatest completely lost his shit. Initially there was confusion as it appeared off the ball, so TV viewers were wondering what happen, then there it was, Zidane head butting the shit out of an Italian. Let not kid ourselves, no one likes the Italians in the world of soccer. Their arrogant prima donnas; but this might have been one step too far.

Watching Zidane walk off the pitch and past the World Cup, it's like you could feel the French hopes and dreams fading from the very pitch.

I was always curious as to what was said.....

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Justified. The Italian guy probably called the Frenchman a baguette.

Oh man, the gifs this spawned over at SomethingAwful (and everywhere else, I guess) were godlike.

Page three has pertinent gif to this threads title, too.

I didn't even care much about football but seeing that live was surreal. Just why...

I remember this dumb song that was made within a day of the headbutt (written and recorded in half an hour) that then went onto topping French charts.

. Additionally, Materazzi claimed that after he had grabbed Zidane's jersey, Zidane sarcastically said to him "If you want my shirt, I will give to you afterwards". Materazzi then revealed that he replied, "Preferisco la puttana di tua sorella[26]" (I would prefer your whore of a sister[26]), which resulted in the head-butt.

Still salty that the referee used video even though it wasn't allowed.

One of my biggest disappointment in Football ever, I was 10 at the time and Zizou was my idol...

Maybe the only iconic moment of the Zidane era that I watched live, which is a bit sad. Also the only thing that made me ever wish for France to lose. Winning a final after such a dirty move from your (legendary) captain would have been wrong on all accounts.

Remember watching this live and howling after they had just talked up it being Zidane's last game

Also that fucker deserved it and should've gotten hit harder

Volcano High Alumnus (Cum Laude)
NYE 2009/10, Liecester Sqare, London. A video is projected with highlights of the past decade, two things are cheered: this headbutt, and Usain Bolt at Beijing 2008.

I didn't expect literally what the thread title promised, but a football story is like the least interesting thing it could've been. :|
