Realistically, it'll all probably be okay. It'll be more of the same that you've already experienced most likely. This sounds like this kind of relationship is just you guys' dynamic and it probably won't change anytime soon.

HONESTLY OP if the mom likes Geass I say go for the mom she seems like a cool person with fine taste in anime.

So in college I've known this girl for over a year now. We've had our ups and downs, fights, not talking to each other, cuddles (that's how far it ever got and while drunk), but in the end we still manage to consider each other "best friends." Around August last year, I revealed to her how I felt, that I liked her a lot, and at the time she said she doesn't want to be in a relationship for a while (4 year relationship in high school that ended badly), but she did give me a glimmer of hope by asking if I was willing to wait (she cut herself off by saying she couldn't ask me to do that and she doesn't know how she'll feel later on). Even after that I still managed to talk to her everyday. Times we partied it would always piss me off if she started dancing with someone else or really drunkenly make out with someone. She would always apologize and I would proceed to ignore/not talk to her for about a week but she would always find a way to make me come back.

Now:
That background was basically last semester but this semester I went in with a mindset that she's not technically mine and therefore, I can't control what she can't and cannot do. We somehow got even closer this semester as best friends to the point where we are comfortable talking about anything with each other. We write each other text essays in class to the point where people around me think we're a thing. She would tell me about a time another guy asked her to be an FWB and was disgusted with it (that guy happened to be one of my good friends), and I guess she wanted me to do something about it? I never did, again because of my new mindset. She just came back from one of her retreats over spring break and is telling me about a guy that "may" end up liking her the more they hang out (she'll be going to a concert with him) but she just wants to stay good friends with him because she just enjoys talking to him. She asked me advice on the matter and I basically said that if she starts hanging out with him more maybe she will fall for him and break that "not wanting to be in a relationship" curse (I was trying a new apporach). She continually denies that'll happen and that she's not ready, etc., etc. She tells me when she'll hang out and she even asked if she should go to the concert with him...


Anyways I guess my question here GAF is why is she doing this? I still have feelings for her and deep down she probably knows it. It pains me when she talks about other guys and I can't just tell her to stop because I still enjoy talking to her...my day doesn't feel complete if I don't. Is she messing with me? Is she gauging how I feel? Does she feel like she needs my permission to talk/hang out with this other guy? Did I make a mistake by telling her go for it and she may end up liking him?

Nothing's wrong with anime. Code Geass is a weird choice though. Like you would expect a Ghibli film or something recent like Your Name with people not all that initiated.

I wouldn't write this off as fake. Having an apparent understanding of the situation/seeming very aware of it is entirely different than being able to interpret social signals or navigate a situation well. "Things seem normal and they want to watch an anime!" could miss hints of reluctance or awkwardness of them desperately wanting to defuse the situation as well.

Source: Myself, though I would never have recommend Geass. No one deserves that table scene. My god. To anyone asking-- search for it yourself, as it's well within NSFW territory and nothing that should ever be spoken of aloud.

I just realized the family is pretending they enjoy the anime out of sheer politeness and hospitality. Jesus. They are probably dying inside. "As long as it keeps this creep away from my daughter I guess I will watch this shit."

I could be on my deathbed, and if someone whispered to me "table scene!" I'd stop to groan and rant about it briefly. There could be a tornado 10 feet in front of me, and if someone prompted me with "table scene!" I'd stop and stare at the person who said it. I could be in a burning building, and if shouted to with "table scene!" I would pause the quest of my own safety to scream for a few seconds.

I actually got my parents to watch full metal alchemist. They loved it.

My dad watched all of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. He likes Dragon Ball now than Z.

My girlfriend likes anime too. Her favorite anime character is Goemon from Lupin 3rd
