The Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons (Harmful to Young Persons) has recently expressed concern regarding Dead Rising third This makes it difficult at the present time a required marking to begin production of the game for the German market.

For this reason, the title is not for publication on the console 22.11. appear. The exact reasons why the zombie game an age identification was denied, are not known. But probably it is related to the explicit depiction of violence, but also the history of the game series seems to play a significant role. Microsoft can not divulge details of the process.

Previous Dead Rising games were banned, so no huge surprise. Still, blows for German Xbox One customers.

Not surprising as the previous titles have been denied certification as well. These days a lot of violent games get through without and issue, but couple violence with humor or being rewarded with points and it's a big no no.

There you go. Bask in all their censorship-loving glory.

The funny thing is that the only thing they're actually doing is not preventing younglings from getting access to evil adult software, but rather preventing adults from said software by banning it. Oh, and organisations related to them threaten to sue websites that show which media are banned or censored in Germany. Yeah, they're fun people.

What in the actual fuck? Tell me more.

That really sucks for people in Germany. Looks like they'll have to do some importing. :l

Importing is ridiculously easy you can just import from Austria and it doesn't cost any more. + You don't have to have the ugly ratings logo on the case.

Good, that means all the other EU copies doesn't get censored just because Germany happens to be a nanny state.

Yeah, this is great news for everyone because it means that there actually is an uncensored version

They don't ban them, they prohibit their being openly displayed and marketed, because that would reach children (who, let's be honest, always have and always will be the prime target of "mature" titles). This, of course, makes releasing such games in Germany unprofitable. In theory, though, these games could be sold to adults, if the store has the means to prevent children from entering. I personally object to this procedure, but I can understand where they're coming from.

Now imagine we would have the always online DRM with activation. Germans couldn't even import it. Really dodged a bullet there.

I don't see why this series always gets banned when stuff like God of War gets a pass.

After all the negativity surrounding the Xbone there isn't a big market in Germany anyway for the MS console.

This from the people that brought you chest shitting.

The people that also made throwing people out of a window so common that there's a specific word for it. On second thought, maybe it's a good thing they're cutting down on the violent content.

And to think of that the UK is also becoming a nanny state because what i saw Cameron wants Porn filter on the internet it baffles me if people are going to intervene that.

Thank god we don't have it here in the netherlands.

Occassionally they also ban software (indexing =/ banning), as in the case of Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2.

The USK has been getting much more relaxed in the last few years, but they still seem to be pretty harsh when it comes to the Dead Rising franchise.

The BPjM also doesn't censor games. Publishers censor their games to get a rating so that they can market their games and sell them anywhere. This isn't unique to Germany. Take a look at the ESRB. There's a reason games like Outlast are only featured on PC, never get a rating.

Most people refer to the indexing when they talk about bans. I never heard of actual bannings, you mean they confiscated already released copies?

It depends, there are a bunch of games that are actually banned, not only "indexed". Dead Rising 1 and 2 are actually on that list.

Yepp, that's what happens if a game gets banned: If you - as a private consumer - own the game, you are fine (owning it is legal). But they'll confiscate copies that are in possession of businesses (selling for profit isn't).

We will probably get a special version with removed gore and removed swastikas. And then we import it.
