Well, that doesn't sound so bad! That's a good goal to be honest. It's my understanding that this is basically a literary 5k, where it's not about winning but simply being a part of the journey and seeing how far you can push yourself. Obviously it would be great to win though lol.But my original personal goal for 2014 for books was going to be just 1 per month. :|
Do comic books count? I got a huge Judge Dredd collection lately. I could very realistically make this challenge if that counts.

50 books in a year?
lol wut.
Ever since I discovered reading in 2010 I have been reading pretty much nonstop. So much that I have even made it to 97 books this year and am trying to get to 100:
So I can do 50 books no problem.
50 movies on the other hand...I really dunno lol. We shall see I guess, but I wouldn't count on it. I'll try though.
What a fun idea! I'm in.
Metaphoreus - 0/50 books | 0/50 movies.
Do we have to wait until 1/1/14 to begin reading a book for that book to qualify, or can we get a jumpstart on it now?
The old rules state that you can't have read more than half the book before the start of the new year for it to count.
The ruling here is if you're under 50% done with the book when the new year hits, finish it up and count it. I'm not telling you to purposefully stop reading at the halfway mark to spring-load a book for the challenge, but that works.
Exactly. Covered on the first page:
Yeah I'd e interested in this too.I'm going to try to keep on track with this but man it's hard with books. I don't know how people read 2-3 books week while also having a full time job, unless you can read at work and ignore other hobbies. That seems impossible to me.
Do people have any tips on how to read faster, while simultaneously being able to retain/recall the information so it doesn't just disappear?
I wasn't here for the previous years, but how common was it for people to count long books as 2 books?
Something like The Way of Kings comes in 2 books in some places, so I can see that being more than okay, but I have plenty of books at around 650 pages or so. But I don't want to count them all as 2 if nobody really did that previously, even though the OP says it's acceptable.
We had a handful of people do it, and there's no shame in it. Why not start out counting them singularly, then readjust if you find yourself coming up short later in the year?
Speaking of which...that book is utterly phenomenal and I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel in March.
Forgot I had a spot on the first page. Does anyone usually finish this challenge early?
That is exactly what I plan to do, thank you!
And yes, I am very excited to read it and grab the sequel!
Also if I started a book, but I am not sure if I will get a read before the 1st, can I put that down as my 1st book of 2014?
Or is it only books started and finished in 2014
In the words of the stellar Hawkeye writer: "Bro, bro, come on, bro." Covered four times already in a three page thread.
Simple answer: As long as you haven't finished over 50% of the book before the new year starts, count it. If you're over halfway, don't count it. If you're in doubt, follow your conscience. If you're still in doubt, just count it.
