A New Kind of Air Power - Making Electricity out of thin air

UMass Amherst (notoriously known as a party school to those who hail from the New England region of the US, I found it funny it was there) has just published a study of their's about a new technology they've developed that creates energy out of the moisture in the air. It utilizes protein nanowires that are conductive when exposed to the moisture in any given atmosphere (even in desert environments). These nanowires are connected to electrodes and when compounded with multiple sets of the nanowire, increase the electricity generation. This energy production can even utilize E. coli. to create the nanowire and has absolutely no effect on the environment from what can be seen from current studies. So far the researchers see this as a means to generate electricity not only in homes, with speculation to even use this new nanowire as a way to produce energy with wall paint, but to make items such as phones and smart watches completely independent, as no charging would be needed.
