The 4 main guys' designs suck, Cindy's design is good, and the game is very good.

These are my thought having started it today.

The Cindy hate is so laughably misplaced.

Aranea is a far, far, far worse offender. You can be a functional mechanic in Cindy's outfit and it's nothing outrageous compared to what you'll see in any warm-climate city full of young women. Are there some tacky camera angles blatantly designed for fanservice? Yes. But it's a whipping boy that riles everyone up and distracts them from a far bigger joke.

Aranea is an imperial soldier who not only looks drastically different from EVERY SINGLE OTHER member of the Empire in terms of uniform, but her armor is impractical in every single way.

Hate Aranea, not Cindy.

i think i can hate both

yes, yes i can

But she is a mercenary hired by the empire :)

Why do I need a female character to relate to? I don't play FF games to insert myself but to experience the stories of the characters. Characters, not avatars. I found Prompto not fitting in and lack of self-esteem as a child to be incredibly relatable. Just because you shove a female character in a party, doesn't mean I get anything out of her.

Edit: And for that matter, why is it a company's requirement to represent both genders? Why not all races then? Sexualities? Not every story calls for a playable female character. XV's certainly didn't.

I do agree with what you said, BUT... as I've gotten older, I've ended up gravitating more toward Western RPGs where I do get to have my gender and sexuality represented, and away from Japanese RPGs where all of that is decided for me. Now, I can enjoy a game just fine even if I can't directly identify with the main character—Uncharted and The Last of Us as two perfect examples—but in order for that to happen, you have to give me strong characters and a good story.

And that's where JRPGs have been failing me. Back when my options were Phantasy Star or Final Fantasy VI or Valkyrie Profile or whatever, no problem. But I can't help but feel—and maybe it's because I'm older now—that the stories are getting worse and the characters more worthless in too many JRPGs compared to what we used to get. I'd rather have a no-name character with not as much writing put into them that I can customize than many of the protagonist Japanese devs are asking me to care about. Even with one of my favorite RPG brands in existence, SMT, I'm tiring of the "we're making the MC mute and devoid of a real personality so you can pretend that they're you, which doesn't actually work" thing.

Funny enough though, FFXV is one game where I had zero complaints about the cast. I mean, the story is hot garbage, but the four main boys were all fun and I grew to love them. So, I had fun playing the game. Unfortunately, I consider that to be an exception to how JRPGs are anymore, not the rule.

Well...

Aranea is the first important character that I realized just joined the team. Together with her, there were also the two comrades biggs and wedge but have not been made then
As I thought. In my design, and the two, they had a suit of armor in theme with that of aranea.

It's a miracle they gave her pants, but yeah that top part is still crap.

I would genuinely love to know who these people are, I guess Gladio is catered to me but I just find him ridiculous on every level. The fact that I dislike his character doesn't help, but I also don't find him remotely attractive.

Maybe i'm to 'old' (i'm 30) to be into a character that looks like him. If I could ask my 16 year old self I may have answered differently. I used to like the Backstreet boys so anything is possible (i'm not ashamed either, you have to own up to your bad taste).

Mainly definition #2. When Japan caters to women it basically just reverses the concept of "yuri", big group of pretty androginous boys
(and the token burly character)
usually with a female character or two interacting with them every now and then, often without making the guys canonically gay though (I heard some female fans are outraged when it happens).

It's also why the mainstream western female audience didn't get this wasn't a male/shounen power fantasy at all. They saw four males, they didn't bother to see what they looked like, they just saw Cidney dancing around and it escalated from there. The writing was on the wall when there gave you a boy band and no female party member.

Why is no one talking about how this confirms that there were rewrites every 2 seconds?

Because pretty much everyone already knows that's the case?

I mean, try to find a single person that honestly believes that this was one consistent plotline since inception to release.

Because I'm replying to your question.
Shit i thought you were someone else. I'm saying that outfit was something that looks like it was thrown together on the fly while on the run it doesn't make sense she'd have some identical outfit made while queen.

It changing from spin off to mainline, to multiple sequels, to one title doesn't help.
That and rushed release.

I definitely wouldn't call XV a rushed release. The game needed more time but it's not like they didn't have time to make this game. It was reannounced back in 2013 for gods sake. If anything it just means SE is slow and not very good at making fast developments.

Sorry, but that's not impressive at all. SE is a big company with a lot of manpower, the ability to attract talent, and a lot of money to finance what is their biggest worldwide IP. Getting an 83 for FF15 is far from impressive, that's just setting a hilariously low bar for a developer that should be able to perform significantly better, since it has all those resources under its umbrella.

Games are made by humans and there's a finite amount of work a group of humans can feasibly do in that kind of environment. No amount of money is going to replace the ultimate resource, which is time and energy. I'll give The Last Guardian the exact same praise for being so troubled yet still coming through and being decent despite a development lasting 2 console generations.

And even without the review scores, the game is still impressive, at the very least on an objective technical level. You may not think so, but...well, majority of the reviewers did. They majorily seem to be saying what everyone was hoping for (a revitalization of interest in the series). I guess we just have a very particular group of Final Fantasy fans here at GAF as the majority, but I personally found FFXV more interesting than the last 3 FF games combined.

FFXV is the first FF game since XII to actually push the series somewhere new, and instead of just adding a few sparkles and ribbons to the formula, they took the game into 2 different genres. And the majority of people (and fans) enoyed it. That is impressive.

I don't think we should be looking at review scores for how 'impressive' something turned out. In terms of sales and profit, FF15 is likely to be a disappointment for SE, but I would like to think they are now smart enough to have known that.

...But you just used a review score to show how unimpressive XV is?

I guess we'll see how profitable it is, it had the best launch in the series thus far (if you ignore japan, its a very different market than when XIII released).

Umbra being able to change between dog form and ninja form makes my heart hurt, since according to an alleged 4chan leaker he was supposed to join the party.

Ferrari sounds so tired of all the Versus project nonsense, I'm glad he got to work on another FF game tho, I hope it works out better this time.
Wait a minute. Doesn't this basically confirm the recent leaks!? oO Way too random not to be from an actual insider.

You could also get away with simpler character designs in the old days because of graphical limitations. Many great characters of old have very simple outfits and remain just as iconic then as now. Because of our graphics now, designers have to get ultra realistic or overly dramatized in their work for it to be consider 'acceptable'. That's why we have designs like Quiet, Cidney, and Two Worlds boob ladies.

I don't want to defend the outfit but is it really counter productive? Aren't skirts and high heels counter productive for every work too? But they are required almost everywhere where there's contact with people to attract male people(let's be honest), beautiful not too covered girls attract people and that means more money so they are productive.

I don't think that the biggest problem of Cindy is the garbage outfit (Well, it is a problem because it looks really trashy) but more how the game treats her like a sex object every chance it gets... she is just a few notches below Quiet from MGSV

Not really true. The only scene you could argue that is her cleaning the regalia. Other than that, she's not treated like a sex object at all in the game, which only makes her outfit even more out of place. I dislike her design a lot, but the main reason for that is exactly because she's actually a nice character, even if not super developed.

If my car has problems, I go to a mechanic to get my car fixed, not my dick sucked.

Does Cidney suck your dick in the game? Actually, does every woman dressing in this kind of outfit suck your dick for no reason when you randomly meet them? What the fuck are you talking about?

When you go to an event and there's something stupid like booth babes, do they suck your dick as well?

Jesus Christ.

Unfinished, no. Rushed, obviously????

The game was delayed, and they were "speaking with Just Cause developers" about integrating flying as late as August 2015...

And they were developing the engine for the game as well...it took so long for optimization to be completed that the game looked horrible in comparison not even 3 months from release.

So an attractive girl with a skirt/shorts and heels will suck your dick? What are you even trying to say? It's not like Cindy goes around the game sucking dicks. She fixes and customizes your car.

Nomura was in charge of the party + Cor in design? Or only Noctis?

Nomura was in charge of the party's faces + Stella's face during Versus. When Versus became XV, the party's faces + Stella's face were redesigned by art director Yusuke Naora (and Stella was renamed to Luna). ROEN were in charge of their outfits.

I mean, flying was definitely just fanservice. There's one place you need the airship to reach, and they could just have you interact with something to take you there instead, in case they didn't manage to add it.

I do agree that it would benefit from more development time, absolutely, I just don't think this is the greatest example you could give.

When you know something is rushed, any half-assed feature will look like evidence of a rushed aspect, but some times they're just half-assed. Plenty of complete games have half-assed shit in them.

Didn't Naora only redesign them for Chapter 0 visuals, though? I don't see much of a difference in design ever since 2011 for the main party. Prompto being the exception.

This could be the start of a cheap porno. Especially since she's very blatantly doing nothing that resembles a mechanic working on a car.

Here's the part where I ask you to find me gifs/videos/moments in the game where Cindy has sexual emotes designed rush blood to your dick. Because "woman wiping windows" and "woman tinkering with knobs" is not sexual.

Cindy animates like a completely normal person, her outfit is literally the only sexual thing about her. Put her in pants / jumpsuit and you guys would have nothing to say about her.

If you guys really think Cindy is as bad as Quiet, then you either didn't play FFXV or you didn't play MGSV. Or you need new eyes / sexual education.

Edit:

Don't bother posting the one from Episode Duscae where the guy put the camera on her ass, it doesn't count. Also don't bother posting the opening where the camera pans past her back for 2 seconds before doing the same thing to Cid.

Nope he technically redesigned all of them, but it's mostly noticeable on Prompto and Stella->Luna.

I thought Nomura was the artist for this game.

Nomura designed the original faces of Noctis, Gladiolus, Ignis, Prompto, and Stella. ROEN designed the outfits of these 5 characters. Yusuke Naora redesigned these 5 characters after Versus XIII became XV.

All the other characters were designed by Yusuke Naora and Roberto Ferrari.

Why is he credited constantly on the game as rhe character designer then? I don't get it, specially after everything we've learned today...
