You need to add some more David Lynch to your list:

-Eraserhead
-The Elephant Man
-Blue Velvet
-Lost Highway
-The Straight Story
-Wild At Heart
-Inland Empire

Also watch Magnolia by PTA. Otherwise you have a very thorough list and some good recommendations on this thread.

Ilo Ilo (2013) - In Singapore, a hardworking mother becomes jealous of her son's close bond with his nanny. Basically just a film about a few months in the life of a family. Brilliantly shot and acted.

A Separation (2011) - An Iranian film, which in itself makes it interesting. If I was asked to pick a film from the last decade to show to someone it would be this. Deserved all the attention it got. Brilliant.

The New World (2005) - The best film from one of our greatest directors, Terrence Malick. Maligned by critics and fans on its debut, I firmly believes it stands as a great cinematic achievement. Malick creates a world in this film, where every character feels real despite having fairly little dialogue. Every shot and line is masterfully delivered, each one beautiful enough to stop the heart.

When Harry Met Sally... (1989)
Whiplash (2014)
Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Zoolander (2001)

This is a list of my favorite movies, not necessarily the best. Full franchise are mentioned when needed, and I tried to lean more recent and easily accessible. Let me know if you want more.

OP have you seen Hunger by Steve McQueen? It's a film not many people talk about, but it floors me.
Sword of the Stranger is another one. It's pretty outragous how good this one is. This guy. He made a fucking Digimon movie before this. DIGIMON. How is that even possible?

El Topo is one of the most insane films I have seen in recent years, but I haven't seen his others. I really want to see The Holy Mountain.

Dreyers Jean'De Arc from 1928 is one of the best silent films I have ever seen. It's the music that makes it. It's just a court drama with tons of close-ups. It's really really good, but not for your average film viewer.

Some fantastic recommendations already, I'll second most of the ones already mentioned here in the thread and not repeat them again in my own list below. Already subbed to the thread, because I always appreciate recommendations for new(or old) movies to watch.

Anyway, the below list is a bunch I really like a lot, but that haven't been mentioned(I think):

A Bittersweet Life(2005)
A Moment to Remember(2004)
American Graffiti(1973)
Big Fish(2003)
Bleak Night(2010)
Respire(2014)
Burn After Reading(2008)
Calvary(2014)
Fargo(1996)
Game Change(2012)
I saw the Devil(2010)
L.A. Confidential(1997)
Like Crazy(2011)
Metropolis(1927)
Monsieur Lazhar(2011)
Oldboy(2003) + the rest of the Vengeance trilogy
The Descendants(2011)
The Grand Budapest Hotel(2014)
The Messenger(2009)
Where the Wild Things Are(2009)

Whiplash. It's the best movie of 2014.

Also, Short Term 12.
I just watched Short Term 12, what a great movie. I'll also have to watch Whiplash soon.

Lots of good stuff on that list. Here you gotta watch Guardians of the Galaxy, the rest take from other recommendations just do yourself a favor and watch Guardians.

Also Whiplash is brilliant. I just thought of Sideways for some reason too watch that.

A lot of very good movies have been recommended, so I'll try to think of some that I didn't see on the list (or missed because of my tired eyes).

Black Christmas (1974)
Lifeboat (1944)
Rear Window (1954)
A Tale of Two Sisters (2003)
The Squid and the Whale (2005)
Kramer Versus Kramer (1979)
First Blood (1982)
The Killing (1956)
Dial M for Murder (1954)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
Donnie Darko (2001)
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
The Rules of Attraction (2002) - Not for everyone

demon

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
The Matador - a 2006(?) movie with Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear. It's part drama/comedy/suspense, but ultimately it's a character study about these two guys who form an unlikely friendship in Mexico. Brosnan is a hitman and basically plays a perverted, washed up Bond and it's fucking amazing. Really a great movie I think.

My man!

I also notice you posted Five Fingers of Death. That's cool, but keep in mind it's also known as King Boxer (The Best R1 DVD release by Dragon Dynasty is titled "King Boxer: Five Fingers of Death.)

For action

Yes, Madam

Wheels on Meals

Project A

Armour of God 1 & 2 (Make sure you find the uncut versions)

Dragons Forever

Sha Po Lang (AKA Kill Zone)

Righting Wrongs (AKA Above the Law)

I dunno if you're into comedy. If you are I recommend Coming to America. My favorite Eddie Murphy movie.

These are some from a big movie watch I did recently:

1) The Lives of Others (amazing film)
2) The Pianist
3) Downfall (felt real to me; tough watch)
4) Cross of Iron
5) Cool Hand Luke
6) Totoro
7) Grave of the Fireflies (incredible)
8) Porco Rosso
9) Kiki's Delivery Service
10) Ponyo (just adored the vibe of this one)
11) NausicaA (loved this)
12) Metropolis (the level of craft is still impressive)
13) Oldboy (the original)
14) Akira
15) Hgh and Low
16) Ikiru
17) 12 Monkeys
18) Ten (Iranian film)
19) The Straight Story
20) Inland Empire
21) Mulholland Drive (Lynch's best)
22) Eraserhead
23) Seven Samurai (still holds up)
24) Hoop Dreams (one of the best docs)
25) Bullets Over Broadway
26) Safe (little-seen Julianne Moore film)
27) The Hunt (best movie I've seen in the last 10 years)
28) Festen a.k.a. The Celebration (pretty harrowing stuff)
29) The World's End
30) The Raid 2 (amazing action)

...and please see Interstellar if you haven't. Personally, I thought it was amazing.

I just saw Elite Squad/Elite Squad: The Enemy Within and I must say it's a fantastic duology. I'd put it up there with The Raid series.

99% of my recs have been mentioned. Some excellent watches that haven't are:

Arsenic and Old Lace (Frank Capra 1944)
Rope (Hitchcock 1948)
Harvey (James Stewart masterpiece. 1950)
Harol and Maude (Hal Ashby 1971)
Don't Look Now (Nic Roeg 1973)
Martin (George A. Romero's vampire movie. 1977)
The King of Comedy (Scorsese/De Niro. Enough said. 1982)
Jacob's Ladder (Adrian Lyne 1990)
Sling Blade (written, directed, & starring Billy Bob Thornton 1996)

Don't know if GAF is a fan, but I really enjoyed The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Good French film based on a true story. Some great performances, visuals, and an awesome soundtrack

Dangerous lack of

Waltz with Bashir
Under the The Skin
Treasure of the Sierra Madre
In A Lonely Place
Out of the Past
Mean Streets
Shame
Solaris (2002)
Marty (195?)
Jin Roh: Wolf Brigade
Paradise Now
Monster Squad

in here. Avoid Kill List.

I scanned the list and didn't see either Casablanca or Cool Hand Luke on there.

Both are well worth a look.

I'm glad that you have The Ipcress File on there. You are in good hands.
