(CNN) -- A mother in Tampa, Florida has admitted in detail to killing her two teen-aged children, police said.

Police checking on the family at the request of a relative found Julie K. Schenecker, 50, on the back porch of her home Friday morning, dressed in blood-covered clothing, according to a police statement.

They found her son, Beau Powers Schenecker, 13, dead in the family's SUV, which had been parked in the garage, the statement said. Calyx Powers Schenecker, 16, was in an upstairs bedroom, also dead.

"She did tell us that they talked back, that they were mouthy," Tampa police spokeswoman Laura McElroy told CNN affiliate WTSP. "But I don't think that will ever serve as an explanation to the rest of us of how you could take a child's life."

The woman shot her son as she drove him to soccer practice and returned home to shoot her daughter as she studied on her computer, CNN affiliate WFTS reported, citing investigators.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the teens were killed on Thursday evening, a police statement said, but a medical county examiner will determine the time of death.
Police have charged the mother in the killings, the police statement said.

Police were called to the house after Schenecker's mother called from Texas to express concern about her daughter's welfare, saying she was depressed, the police statement said.

Schenecker was initially booked into jail, but was transferred to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of an existing medical condition, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, WTSP reported.

Hundreds of people attended a candlelight vigil on Friday night in memory of the siblings, according to WTSP.

"It's just sad that his mom did this to him and his sister because he didn't deserve this," one of the mourners, Hailey Johnson, told WTSP. "He was the sweetest kid ever."

"I came out here tonight because I just needed to show respect and show that I really did care about Beau," said another mourner, teenager Ann Sloan.

It just seems most news stories these days involve Florida. That's part of the point of G-A-F threads.

approximately 90% of news-of-the-weird/news-of-the-crazy stories come from germany, australia, or florida.

I'd like to know what "mouthy" actually meant. They were probably normal teens. What teen doesn't mouth off to their parents?

Another G A F thread. :(

Not really sure what's discussion worthy on this site but okay. Crazy mom doesn't know how to handle her kids.

I stopped reading right there. Soccer moms, I wish to never be one. Two lives completely wasted. She should have just offed her own damned fucking self.

There was another story floating around stating that their house lost 50% of their value (from $450,000 to $260,000 or something like that). I bet it plays a significant role.

Dammit. It's not enough to be from the state I live in, but this stuff has to happen in the city I live in? FML. Getting out of here after college.

I thought about this, but sometimes it's okay to have a thread on GAF without the thread spinning out of control into chaos.

I still remember the Andrea Yates case. Then again my grandpa was the bailiff in the court during the whole trial.

This is just really fucked up.

According to the first post, you've somehow failed at both.

well what is wrong with my post? only because crazy stuff happen in FL it doesn't mean every crazy thing must happen in FL. It just happened that that crazy woman lived there. I dont think she would be mentally fit if she lived in NY, CA or anywhere else. Her action was not dependent from the fact she lived in FL nor encouraged by the state FL or the fact she lived there.

Maybe she would acted different if she didn't have the ability to go to the next Walmart and buy a gun and maybe she would have killed her kids with a knife if she didn't have a gun.

Well, the point of these threads is it gives GAF the chance to point out the coincidence that most of these news cases happen in Germany, Australia, or Florida.

Maybe I have been conditioned, but it seems like the majority of crazy shit happening like this (and kidnappings) happen in Florida.

As the father of a mouthy teenager who is almost out of control... I'm not saying she should have killed them, but I understand.
