A lot of issues that people have in the gaming community (and in life) would go away if they knew how to mind their god damn businessMy philosophy in life is to let others do what they do and expect them to let me do what I do in a way that gives the most joy.
Also people who care about doings of others and what those other people think about them - particularly in relation to game difficulty - still have some growing up to do.
Care less, be happier.

You could say that about any game. Putting artifical restraints on yourself will, of course, make any game more difficult.Dark Souls has multiple difficulty settings, it's just that you don't select them in a menu. Not using a shield makes the game harder. Focusing on magic instead of melee weapons makes the game significantly easier. Summoning help turns most encounters into a joke.
Ya aren't trying if ya aren't cheattin'!beating the game with cheats is still beating the game
Oh come on. Finishing the game without leveling up, going for a no-hit run or playing on a DDR dance mat are artificial restraints. Picking melee over magic or going for two-handed weapons instead of shield, though? Not even close. You could say that about any game. Nope, you're just listing more extreme versions of the same thing.Oh come on. Finishing the game without leveling up, going for a no-hit run or playing on a DDR dance mat are artificial restraints. Picking melee over magic or going for two-handed weapons instead of shield, though? Not even close.
Of course, I'm not talking about an already existing souls feature.Of course there is going to be an easy mode, you will be able go online and summon for help and/or use the game NPCs.
In that case, where do you draw the line? How far are you allowed to deviate from the easiest, most braindead way to play the game before you wander into "artificial restraint" territory?Nope, you're just listing more extreme versions of the same thing.
I don't think we really need to worry about drawing a line. If you're ignoring entire game mechanics because they make the game too easy, you're very clearly handicapping yourself and no longer talking about the games true, actual difficulty level. Bringing this back to the topic of Souls games, while they are more challenging than your average modern game, they are not nearly as hard as a lot of people perceive them to be. Most of them can be brute forced by the most classic of gaming tactics such as over leveling and using the best equipment. In that case, where do you draw the line? How far are you allowed to deviate from the easiest, most braindead way to play the game before you wander into "artificial restraint" territory?
By this philosophy, shouldn't you just let people think what they want, even if they hate easy difficulty? because in the next sentence, you are judging them and telling them to grow up, which goes against the first sentence. My philosophy in life is to let others do what they do and expect them to let me do what I do in a way that gives the most joy.

how dare youI'm not a compulsive narcissist so I don't get upset if someone enjoys a game in a different way than me.
Then you're going to lose that bet.Of course, I'm not talking about an already existing souls feature.
That’s like saying that beating Michael Jordan in 1-on-1 basketball while he’s blindfolded and in a wheelchair is still beating Michael Jordan.
no, you are less of a man if you consider that to be an achievement and you probably have a really, really tiny penis
Who (besides apparently the OP) cares?
Me over here attaining literal levels of non-duality videogame zen playing on the lowest difficulty for minimal stimuli while listening to audiobooks of Alan watts, ram dass, jack kornfield, Tara brach, Neville Goddard, Joseph Murphy, terrance McKenna, Jordan peterson and russell brand. Try hard pro gamers are you even trying im a literal god of Vidya games
I look at all the plebs, normies and unwashed masses trying to be hardcore and I watch them weep at my superiority.
