Getting a Scion xB. Is this car gud? Halp!

Got the car. Came with nearly new (good quality) tires, and brand new winter tires that still have the nubby things. Those were on it when I bought it so I took it somewhere to have the regular tires put back on.

The guy who did the tire mounting/balancing told me that it could use brakes, but he might be bullshitting me. I can't hear/feel anything wrong with the brakes at all. Although, to be fair, I don't think it's ever had the brakes done since it was new. So it might need brakes. How hard is it to change brakes? Pads and rotors. I might try to do it myself.

Impressions: I thought it was surprisingly spacious until I put down the rear seats and realized it's extremely spacious. I could fit an amp head and 4x12 speaker cabinet in here (guitar amp/speakers) with room to spare. Handles fine. TBH I've never owned a car that wasn't shitty so I don't even know what "good/great" handling feels like. I have no complaints.

The biggest mark in its favor is that I feel safe driving it. I can't tell you how stressful having to rely on an unreliable and dangerous car.

Former xB owner here, wrecked my '06 last year. I would buy one again in a heartbeat if it had low mileage.
LOVED that car. sure, the cube may not be for everyone, but that shape gives you a fantastic interior. The high-angle windshield makes the cabin feel huge, and you can fit quite a lot of stuff in there. Pretty good gas mileage, though they put a bigger engine in for the '08 (?) redesign.
Very reliable, very practical, very good car. Especially at that price.

this is true.

its an eyesore, but it isnt a terrible car.

Yeah I suspect the OP will be happy with it.

That said buying something like that from a person who isn't around to confront if something goes wrong is kinda scary to me.

But I still think the OP made a good choice. The roomy interior on this ugly ass boxy vehicles actually makes them quite useful.

After driving basically nothing but small sedans and coupes (Escort) I'm really enjoying the extra space. Any qualms I have about the exterior visage of the car is erased when I actually get inside the car. Plus, the exterior might be growing on me.

I love the windshield and front windows. They're huge and have a nice tint.

Not very happy with how the stereo sounds. I'm not the kind of person who'll sink a bunch of money into a car speaker system but I can barely hear the rear speakers in this car. It's pretty anemic. I may make some changes here and would be curious to hear suggestions.

I'll be curious to see how this handles during the winter time. I considered selling the snow tires but until I know how it drives on snow and ice I think I might hold onto them.

I have 2 carfax reports left that I'm not going to use. Does anyone want to give me a vin if they're looking for a car? I'll run the report for you so they don't go to waste.

I would for sure hold onto the snow tires until you know. The replacement price if you wanted to buy some in the future would be a ton more than you can get from selling the ones you have used.
