The funny thing is that you can't buy new PS2 anymore, I'm pretty sure that if Sony managed to produce a model priced 50€ or less it would still sell very well.

That doesn't seem healthy for the industry. But when the economy is in such crappy shape its to be expected that spending on a luxury item is cut.

Pretty useless report because don't track any information on digital sales, MMOs and F2P revenue.

The fucking PS2 was on that list? I did not misread that right? WOW

And the console market is as bad as it has been since 2002 over there. Yup, we sure are on the right track game wise!

All Spanish markets doubled around 2007-2008, and that was not unique to videogames. Everything was a huge fiction around credit money injected into the economy to inflate an already huge property bubble, thanks mostly to a government which was (and remains) extremely incompetent and extremely corrupt at the same time.

That shrinking tendency, by the way, is very far from being finished. The country faces record unemployment numbers, crumbling social institutions (everything from hospitals to education to the pension system), not to mention a never-ending stream of civil liberties' erosion. Spain was an awesome market, fourth or even third in Europe perhaps, when cash was flowing. But that is no longer the case.

To stay on topic, don't read much into those 2013 sales from both PS4 and ONE. There were massive shortages around all the country, and my impression is that both companies deployed the big marketing weapons only well into 2014.

And those PS2 sales are not entirely surprising, as some big Spanish malls are pretty ignorant about the videogame market and you can probably find very old stock (at the original prices) here and there (not only consoles, but also games).

All of those make very low numbers here. In fact Spain is a very big market for retail stores like Game.

I don't agree. Those numbers were low 5 years ago but now digital revenue is quite big in Spain. Not as big as retail but Steam and mobile are growing.

What do you expect? I'm not saying we're a poor and homeless bunch of people, but when things aren't going that well games and other unnecesary stuff are the first things that get cut.

Keep in mind that 2007 to 2010 the DS/Wii were selling a lot, the PS3 just launched, and the PSP was quite healthy. 3DS isn't selling as well as the DS, WiiU has less shelf space than the Vita, PSP is in decline and today spending 400€ is harder than spending 600€ in 2007 (PS4).

I think PS3 sales are going to stay strong here until at least until the 2015. It's becoming the new "casual" console now that the Wii has died.

LoL is everywhere. I have quite some friends that 2-3 years ago were more into traditional gaming and now their playig times goes almost exclusively to LoL.

Ha ha dat PS2 dominating XO.

I'm Spanish myself and I truly don't think people really get it when we say this is Sonyland, I mean really, there's very little people I know that care for the Xbox brand at all, it's mostly Sony and Nintendo here and now Sony is clearly at an advantage.

I know that. Just wasn't expecting a ~50% decline.
For reference in 2006 it was France 1.9B, Spain 1.4
Now it's 2.7 vs 0.7.

That's an interesting assumption. There's a theory in economic science that consumers tend to actually increase their expenses in home entertainment during a crisis (in order to stay home and save money instead of going out and do expensive things). But you know, economic "science" is pretty funny in general.

Well if you read the report it says that even though the results don't look good the tendency is positive, since the decrease in sales year to year is more moderate than on previous years. Meaning possibly this year or on 2015 sales will go up again? Let's see, but I'm confident things will get back on track as economy (very slowly) recovers.

I can't read the reports (blocked at work) but is it true that GTAV, FIFA and CoD made 87% of software sold in Spain? (read it on a newspaper).

not sure about home entertainment but there has been shown some correlation between film box office increasing with economic falls

Sure, there must be some data supporting this theory. Maybe this effect is long gone in Spain (the crisis didn't start yesterday after all), maybe it wasn't that strong or there's a time lag or (what almost always happens) it's more complicated than any theory.

.

ONE shortages? Really? You can buy D1 editions (I mean software not hardware) for ONE like DR3, Ryse or Forza.

We still need the rest of the numbers to have a better image of the whole market. Smartphone penetration is very high and the digital market is growing in all the European markets.

It is also exactly like that here in your neighboring country Portugal. Sony land from North to South. Ah
