Granblue Fantasy English option finally dated! 3/31 Alpha , 4/11 FULL RELEASE.

Wasn't this in the media for being sketchy enough that it prompted the Japanese government to work on new gambling laws?

Possibly. Their version of the "gacha" mechanic seems to have rather poor odds for drawing a lot of the advertised prices. How shady it actually is will be in the eye of the beholder.

Here's the asset of the story for those who want a better grasp at the quality of the localisation

Hot damn, that looks solid. I know someone going to work on the team for the game, too, and with him on the case I know things will continue to remain top-shelf.

And y'all.

Y'all.

This is going up on the English stores. If you think the sort of coin required for an English loc job of the caliber even these few screens show off is being spent on an app that will remain purely in the Japanese app stores, you need to examine the rails on which your train of thought travels.

Yes, licensing, I know. They're probably still going to look for a way to make it work. There's no way something like this is being produced for the tiny number of people who'd bother going through the hoops of setting up JP accounts. This is targeted to the wider JRPG audience in the Anglosphere.

I seriously hope this is the case.

Either way, the account system is likely going to be shared and the game is going to be worldwide, so if you are planning on playing, do your rerolls between now and April 4th. You can potentially save 90% of your time rerolling now instead of after April 5th.

I'd like to believe, but the CyGames site continues to say Japanese Exclusive.

Talking to other folks as well, there's been zero marketing. All announcements for this option have been made in Japanese, there's zero press coverage. It's all been word of mouth.

Are there free rolls between now and the 4th?

I got that theatrhythm thing today and thought I got some weird-ass pop up. I'm just gonna wait for it to be in english, even if it means missing out on some good stuff now.

the lack of global release is so dumb, I don't know if I care enough about this to go through all that hassle to play it.

Oh man, I just started really playing this yesterday. Awesome! I was getting really confused but now I may just keep doing rolls and waiting for this to be out for the rest of us.

There's also the myopic possibility that this is aimed at the SEA market (Singapore, Oceania, Asia etc) But it's a gray way for them to get around licensing for the world.

If you plan to play on PC or in chrome it's actually easy to get to. You either just type in the url, or you get the chrome app. The only one you have to go out off your way for is the Mobile App. Which I heard isn't even that great in terms of optimization. (But is useful if you want to spend money and use google wallet)

Any tutorial on this ?

Never played a mobile game like this before, how many SSR characters do you need to get a good start ?

It used to be you were lucky to get 1 after several rerolls. With this current promotion you could easily walk away with 3+ at the end of the week

This game is much less character intensive than most gacha games, the real power is from your weapons which are all grindable in game

Now, don't quote that as gospel, maybe they're gonna be the pinnacle of dumb and keep it JP-restricted, I dunno, and there are still a few rough bits in those test version screens (that one description and especially a few of those ability tooltips)

but

they're test version screens, that's the point. That stuff can be cleaned up easily enough, and short as it may be, the event text, at least, reads like it got a thorough editing pass with an eye toward readability and catchiness. This tells me they're using either a two-man process of core translator + editor, or a very talented self-editing translator, who would probably command a respectable salary. Neither one is a "low-cost, low-effort" option - a decent pile of yen is being spent either way.

And... all right, at the risk of sounding a bit "know-it-all", I am aware of some factors external to the thread that further make me think that Cygames is extremely serious about making Granblue English very good and is spending equally serious money to make it happen. Long-term commitment of resources serious, let's put it that way. With the sort of money I believe is being thrown around for this, I cannot conceive of a situation wherein Granblue does not appear on Anglosphere app stores in the near future.

But still, I don't know plans beat for beat, so make of it all what you will.

I went ahead and set up an account and got 1 SSR and 2 SR. Maybe i should try rerolling see if i can get more, or just go with it.

edit: I did the new free roll and got another SSR, guess it's not that bad.

I want to believe, but we're two weeks out, this news was simply word of mouth via Japanese ingame news updates. Are they planning to do a silent release instead?

Guess I will have to wait until the english version. I couldn't get past the screen after I login. I think it was setting up an account or something.

Hard to tell. They might be launching a PR campaign once the app goes live (I.E. "we're promoting a thing you can try RIGHT NOW!!1") or they may be doing a thing where they're testing the EN version in Japan, and are then going to do the global release a bit later, and are still keeping the clients synced in order to avoid the FFRK or Chain Chronicle issue of "the global client is 6 months behind Japan and we need to maintain two code-bases at once". Especially with Granblue hittin' the two year mark, it's easy to see why they wouldn't want to try having the EN version "start over".

But yeah, I really can't speak to their release plans, 'cause I don't know.

All I can tell you is that a good bit of what's on show here, combined with a few things I know outside the thread, suggest to me that this isn't going to be some weird "English release in Japan" thing.

Release date confirmed.

Anglosphere get ready.

Are you implying two different servers for EN and JP players here? Seems interesting.

My biggest thing with a global client is with the recent failures such as Chain Chronicle Global or even CyGames themselves with Rage of Bahamut International. A single unified server is best for long term.

Not implying anything, I have no idea about launch plans, thought I made that clear

What I meant was that, whatever they do, I doubt they'll have the rest of the world running an older version of the client the way a few other games do/did. Granblue's been running too long at this point for that to be remotely practical.

For sure, I think what happened with CC Global especially would (& should) make anyone antsy. I would suspect (but not know) that Cygames is going to try to take steps to mitigate the factors which led to that sort of thing.

I hope it's unified. PAD with its multi month waits for new content sucks.

People like you need to quit complaining and actually realize for a second that it's quite simple, FAR from any kind of hassle.

And SpaceDrake Kevin I hope you're right but we will see.

And a full on translation summary from Grancypher fansite if folks don't believe me:

http://grancypher.com/2016/04/01/language-settings-update-alpha-version/

On Thursday, March 31st 18:45 (JST), a new Language Settings feature, with English option available, has been added to a limited number of players. It can be accessed via the Menu > Settings (設定) > 言語設定/Language button.

The official release of the Language option is due to be on Monday, April 11th (no time given).

As the feature is still in its alpha stage, there are parts of the game that haven’t been translated yet. The already translated parts might also be subjected to changes or corrections before the official release.

The new contents added after Friday, April 1st may be released untranslated as well.

Thanks to a good friend and this thread, I decided to give the game a shot. I have absolutely no idea what to do right now, but I did learn how to reroll. I had a terrible first attempt with most of the free 24 pulls (two starters, two serial codes and two 10-pulls) being just Rs, but on my second attempt I pulled 2 SSRs (Earth Sara, Fire Clarice). This seems like a good starting point.

I'm thinking that I'll log in daily but wait for the 11th to actually start playing. Are there any other events going on right now besides the daily free 10-pull that I'd miss out on?

Good pulls.

GBF is all about events.

At the moment there is many events going on:

- ½ AP consumption on Story / Coop /
- 1½ exp from everything you do (or was there exceptions)
- ½ BP (battle point) consumption in MB (multibattles) 5BP costs now 2BP / 2BP costs now 1BP
- Mecha Kat event (free crystals doing its story with 0 AP consumption)
- Theatrrhytm minigame
- Casino is ongoing event (Poker / Slots / Bingo) :)

I guess there are other events also going on cant just remember what, so much to do.

tldr; Time to level & farm Magna (if you have enough levels).

My first ever mobile game I'm actually excited about. Here's hoping it's fun and lives up! If anything, I can always hope Cygames PS4 game will be Granblue and that will surely live up to the hype! :D

These mobile games totally miss the point when it comes to elegant and intuitive UI design. Mistwalker is so far ahead in this department it's ridiculous.

I think it's more because its a web browser game at the core. You should see CyGames earlier efforts like Imas: CG.

We're a little less than 24 hours away from the release of the English option of Granblue Fantasy! . . .

And yet little fanfare or media out there. It really looks like it could not be on the global store after all. But still excite!
