Whoa, kinda makes me want to learn the piano. But I'm sure that takes years of practice, nevermind I'll just watch porn instead.

I wasn't impressed at first, he played the mario 1 theme off tempo. Then the water theme came *thumbs up* then mario 3 nice, then he started rocking the fuck out on the SMW stuff. excellent.

HOLY MOTHER OF ALLAH!

I want to marry that guy, seriously I'll clean, cook, wash, do anything if he'll play me those tunes... HOLY SHIAT!!!

Videos like this are the best thing about the internet.

It was good until he started to play those upbeat songs from Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World. That's when it became amazing. :O

I think most people will agree, the guitar one was far more impressive. And I'm not surprised that Sonic games wouldn't be done simply because the music for Sonic games have always been insanely multi-channelled pieces of modern music, with an added emphasis on percussion.

It's a really good clip, but, IMO, as a rhythm instrument player, bad time is unacceptable. It KILLS me when I hear bad time, much more than slipping on the wrong note, etc.

That's what I always hear from my professors.. nail the tempos and wrong notes are less noticeable. It's weird. I guess that's the way we're trained to listen to it.

As a drummer, I agree... and people are spooging over this? However, the guy has really great potential, with a little more practice he could nail it in a couple weeks. It was impressive even though it was off time most of the time.

Amazing !
So I hear talk of similar guitar clips ? Anyone care to direct this Young Seeker into the right direction for those (assuming I can't find them on NeoGAF here ) ?

I'm with Tre. The guy has great dexterity and finger co-ordination, but his timing's off a lot of the time.

I wholeheartedly agree, his tempo was all off on the SMB song... but once he took the billfold off I felt he did just fine (I'm basing this off my memory of the songs which is admittedly not perfect).

After I saw that, I started looking for piano sheet music for classic video game music, and voila: http://individual.utoronto.ca/auyeun/vgsheetmusic.html

It sounds very similar to what that guy was playing, so you too can be a piano nerd who knows video game music!

I sat down with the Super Mario Overworld Theme for a while and I'm starting to get the gist of it, but it's pretty hard since the rhythms for both hands are both pretty irregular. I can understand, at the very least, why his timing is off. Just about all the songs require strong finger dexterity and a few of the stretches from the thumb to the pinky are huge (I can't do them, at least), so he's a pretty good pianist.

The Underwater Theme is pretty easy (it's just that he played it at a very fast tempo) so if anyone who plays piano wants to learn a Mario tune, I'd try that first.

I'm not doubting his dexterity or skill, but sometimes it really doesn't matter how fast you can play, some of the most powerful pieces are slow and master timing to perfection.

But yeah, he's definitely a good pianist.

I don't see anybody doing this for SONIC games!

ZING!

...perhaps because they wouldn't sound very good on a piano?

The Genesis Sonic games have fantastic music (better than any Mario IMO).

Holy shit, that video is VERY impressive. That guy can really f*cking play the piano!

After seeing the video and hearing some of you complaining about poor time...yes, he has poor time, but come on...that's nitpicking. This isn't some concert, it's a guy who's really skilled at playing the piano. I think it's very impressive as it is, and I can overlook the poor timing, but I guess you can't please everyone. :p

I'd have to agree with the "nitpickers." I somewhat play the piano (I was always better at Trombone than Piano, but playing the Trombone isn't really fun by yourself), and I can admire the skill with which he can play very fast and intricate fingering patterns - as that's my major weak point on the piano - extremely fast runs, my fingers just aren't dexterous enough (which is odd considering how fast I'm able to type).

In any case, I'm impressed with that, but his timing is, as mentioned, awful (pretty odd considering practically everyone knows how these songs are supposed to sound), and he also is just banging away at the piano for the most part. It could be the sound quality, but he doesn't have very good "play", "touch", or "feel" (whatever you want to call it) on the keys, and the's obviously never heard of a slur either (the pedals would help there, I don't think he's using them at all, and it could be put to good use at some points in there).

Does anyone know where I can download the video of that Japanese dude playing the arcade to the beat of symphony music and hitting those buttons really fast? I forgot to save to my HD.

i've played the piano since i was 5 and i was still impressed. sure his timing was off and he could use some help with phrasing, but it was still rockin'. it doesn't have to be technically correct for it to be emotionally stirring. plus...it's mario themes. we're not talking chopin or anything here.
