Media Create Sales: Week 29, 2013 (Jul 15 - Jul 21)

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Yes, Youkai Watch had a great second week. A second week drop of 46% is very good for any game, it's fantastic for a JRPG.

But what about 2 days + heatwave?

Looks like the only heat the Wii U needs to worry about this week is the heat from Vita's exhaust, yuk yuk yuk.

Toukiden still holding on, great start for a new IP.

Here's hoping Vita and WiiU can hold and hopefully increase.

[WIU] Pikmin 3 <ACT> (Nintendo) {2013.07.13} (¥5.985) - 28.513 / 121.233 (-69%) <63,35%> 70.000 units in stock.

Pretty decent hold for Pikmin 3 considering Wii U's situation in Japan.

And Wii U finally hit that 1 million milestone.

But overall not a good week for everything that is not a 3DS. And even 3DS doing only ok with a new bundle and new game. I wonder if Sticker Star disappointment has something to do with M&L:DT sales.

Aaaand, EDF holding strong as well!

I wonder how many people will mention the "only 2 days!!1!" thing this week, heh.

Not too good for M&L, but I'm more worried about its US performance. I can't see it repeating what BIS did.

I don't think there's much of a chance of replicating the success. But I still don't understand how it even sold that much to begin with. Such an enigma.

3DS to break 12 million milestone in about 2-3 weeks

I was going to ask what is going on in Japan, but this answers it.

On a serious note, from the way people were talking last week about how Pikmin was only on shelves for 2 days and last week didn't include the new Wii U bundle I expected the hold for each to be stronger.

Yeah, same here. Those numbers were frontloaded as all hell.

Lego City Undercover, which will be the first Lego game in Japan I believe.

How well it will end up doing is up in the air.

Okay, thanks. (They've seriously never put any Lego games out there before? Damn...)

Poor Mario & Luigi :( I wanted more of this series

Why should the series end all of a sudden? The debut isn't great, but it's a leggy series and it has appeal overseas, why it should end abruptly.

M&L is a difficult comparison to BiS because this one released as day-one digital. Surely that accounts for 10-20% of sales, more or less.

BiS had some monstrous legs both in Japan and NA in 2009, so we'll see if that pattern holds.

Pikmin 3 second-week sales are nearly identical to Pikmin 1 and 2, so I'm no longer worried about that game. The audience from nine years ago seems to still be there, regardless of the harshness of the Wii U climate right now.

Sales are pretty front loaded, I remember people making the same excuse with the Vita launch, only on sale for a day or 2 doesn't really matter, next week's sales are usually always a huge drop.

I thought I was lowballing it with my 120k prediction for M&L4 which I was just about to post. Second worst W1 sales of the series but it should have good legs. I honestly never expected it to come close to M&L3 and I suspect that Mario/Luigi "fatigue", the close release to Sticker Star and the lack of playable Bowser played a considerable part in that. Disappointing nevertheless since I'm in the middle of the game and it's shaping up to become my favourite entry in the series.

Nice numbers for Pikmin 3 and Yokai Watch though. Is the latter receiving any good word of mouth?

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Is Mario fatigue beginning to show? Would be great if AlphaDream got to create a new property now sales are flagging.

Vita vs WiiU grudge match begins, with victors depending on your choice of tracking data.

I dunno if this is good or not for Youkai. If it kept legs for a few more weeks, sure it'd reach a respectable 100-120k, but I would have thought something like this should be achieving a lot more success on a piece of hardware with approaching 12 million units out and about.

Mario & Luigi series:

[GBA] Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (Nintendo) {2003.11.21} - 63.839 / 438.781
[NDS] Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (Nintendo) {2005.12.29} - 133.229 / 417.391
[NDS] Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (Nintendo) {2009.02.11} - 220.055 / 745.701
[3DS] Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (Nintendo) {2013.07.18} - 108.005 / NEW

Paper Mario series:

[N64] Paper Mario (Nintendo) {2000.08.11} - 118.322 / 425.609
[GCN] Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Nintendo) {2004.07.22} - 137.750 / 398.218
[Wii] Super Paper Mario (Nintendo) {2007.04.19} - 156.055 / 505.491
[3DS] Paper Mario: Sticker Star (Nintendo) {2012.12.06} - 130.009 / 520.150

Bonus:

[SFC] Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Nintendo) {1996.03.04} - 335.872 / 1.089.795

that's it, we need another Square nintendo mario collab that isn't basketball (even though the ds game was pretty decent and one of the better looking games on the system somehow).

It might also be time for a 3rd (4th) mario rpg pillar.

So on the "only two days" note, here are the week over week Famitsu drops after correcting my mistake:

Pikmin: 73.8%
Pikmin 2: 80.8%
Pikmin 3: 69.7%

It did have some impact, but it wasn't three bolded lines in all caps with multiple exclamation points astronomical.

Considering how terrible the Wii U is doing I'd say Pikmin 3 is doing all right so far compared to the previous entries

Yea, this is just another example of how front loaded sales are. However, wasn't there a new Wii U bundle that was released at the beginning of the week this thread is talking about? That's what I am more surprised about.

Nice, thank you very much.

As for Toukiden the ratio actually justifies the PSP/V multiplatform release.
If devs could increase the sales by 30%+ by up porting (or down porting, either way)
one version to another then of course they'd do it, especially if cross-platform play is supported.

The promotional anime isn't starting until like December, iirc, so I expect this game will have legs.

I think Pikmin 3 numbers by comparison with 1 and 2 and considering the number of Wii Us out there are fairly impressive for now. Let's see how the week 3 is shaping up. I am very curious about Lego City Undercover numbers. How popular is Lego in Japan?

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I remember someone saying to me that Pikmin 3 will probably beat Toukiden in terms of LTD sales. :p

just adding a white version of the premium,n ot a bundle and not even really a new colour since basic is white

Maybe for some Youkai Watch W bullshit re-release so Level 5 can start devaluing another property from the off!

Week 3 will make up for it. If Nintendo's first shipment was 200k, it will be a while before they sell through it.

In what world are you guys living in that make Pikmin 3 numbers look bad? It sold in line with the rest of the series.

A couple months ago, if you would have told me that Toukiden would sell 200k on Vita and well over 300k overall, I would have called you crazy...

Unfortunately, being the biggest release this summer on a new console starved for content, "in line with the series" is not the ideal result. It's not bad, but I'm betting most expected and everyone hoped it would be better.

Yeah they are what they are.

Not great, not bad.

Nintendo didn't help matters by basically going dark on the market for 6 months

Well, it seems to be Youkai Watch is going to be a nice success.

Better numbers for Pikmin 3 than I expected, pretty good. Hope it somehow keeps selling for a while.

Yup Toukiden also is a pretty nice success.
