Media Create Sales: Week 34, 2017 (Aug 21 - Aug 27)

The Nindies showcase makes me think a Direct might not be coming that soon, but then again the Nindies might be handled by NoA who do some things on their own schedule rather than NCL. Hoping for the best though!

Feb 2018, but was finished in 2013 but delayed to fill the schedule apparently.
So it's been a while

That's a hell of a long delay.

Nindies is NoA. Here they have a segment at the end of Neko Mario Time called Chokotto Nyandies where they advertise upcoming indie games. They will do something soon for Japan.

And in just a few months vs full LTD... damn impressive.

Feb 2018, but was finished in 2013 but delayed to fill the schedule apparently.
So it's been a while

Nintendo is pretty mean when it comes to NDA, I'd edit my post right away, I doubt they're going to be pretty happy that someone leaked DKCTF Deluxe for Switch.

Mario oddisey direct because of course, and then winter direct for all games I my prediction

SMO doesn't really need a Direct, I doubt it'll get one.

By the way, if people were wondering what Capcom was up to on the mobile scene, well... Hope you're not a Puzzle Fighter fan, heh.

Re: Direct. We could see 1 or 2 first party projects but I expect a lot more 3rd party stuff. The timing is really for them (pre-TGS)
That's my impression since months ago. Nintendo revealed entire year's important titles from January event. It's the first time they do something like that. The only other title that was announced since then for 2017 was Pokken I think. Unless they hide a surprise for December, this Direct will be about dating holiday releases and announced / unannouched 2018 projects from first, second and third parties.

Whats the Wii U version of BOTW at? I couldn't find the last MC thread that had it. I always thought the combined WU+SW would hit 1 mil by 01/01/2018

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

agree. But I think we'll also see a few 3rd party late 2017 stuff announced. 2-3 months turnaround isn't that atypical for Japan (plus they would likely just be ports anyways)

Last week it charted in the top 20 was week 24 (until 18th of June).

[WIU] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild <ADV> (Nintendo) {2017.03.03} (¥6.980) - 133.024

Breath of the Wild is over 700k at retail.

The only third party title that would have real impact this December for Switch is DQXI. Every other port is just an attempt of easy money/creating a fanbase until things become serious for third parties in 2018 after many of them missing 2017.

Thanks! I never look at old MC threads and couldn't find it..

That's 704,187 not including digital. 3 months for 295,813 copies when you ignore digital. Better have some good holiday sales to reach it. Either way that's a great result for BOTW in japan.

It'll be a big struggle for this year even if chucking in a 50k digital guess but it'll get there eventually

Just reposting this here since it's possibly not an internally developed game.

Q: Concerning the licensing agreements in Capcom's mobile business, what kind of agreements have been made, and when will the games be released?

A: We are unable to share any specific details regarding which IP we will use, the names of potential business partners or when service for games will begin at this time. The mobile business is an important matter for us, and we see these licensing agreements as the first step toward building alliances there.

Shipments of Breath of the Wild are over 800k by now, maybe they are approching 850k.

The good thing is the game topped 1m last quarter and we will get updates from Nintendo for Japanese and ww sales every three months at least until next March.

Nope, developed internally... well, if Capcom Vancouver counts as internal, I guess?

PR:

The sequel to one of the most popular puzzle games of all time comes to mobile in the all new Puzzle Fighter. Developed by Capcom Vancouver from the ground up, the classic arcade puzzle game gets modernized with a new look and new features for free download on iPhone, iPad and Android devices. The game will be coming soon for soft-launch in select countries and a global release is planned for late 2017.

Ah okay, that makes sense then, thanks. I'll get my hopes up for a Direct pre-TGS then!

If a tgs direct would need to be third party based to happen I doubt it will happen

An oddissey one is more likely

The Direct will be before TGS. Except for third party announcements Nintendo and retailers have limited time to prepare for holidays. September is already here and December schedule is still undetermined.

Well if there is a direct I expect it to be 3rd Party focused, November and December seem pretty barren for the Switch in terms of 1st party titles and I doubt there would be any high profile release Nintendo is holding onto. It seems the perfect time for something to materialize - remains to be seen how relevant to Japan it turns out to be.

September will probably be a slow month for Switch software wise. 3DS version of FE Musou will probably cannibalise considerable amount of proportion from sales and Pokken hardly will have significant impact. There isn't any major big third-party title on the horizon either.

Do we know for sure a Direct is coming or is this just speculation? Did we prove that their website having a blank space indicates an upcoming Direct on a related note?

I thought that Nintendo would host a new Nintendo Direct at the end of August beginning of September, since they had the Nindie Showcase, my guess it is that we might have one by the end of September or mid October. But I don't think that will have big announcements, actually the only thing I think is to announce Skyrim release date, and maybe show that Dragon Quest XI is real and a few teasers of already announced games.

Why would the Nindie Showcase have any effect on a TGS showcase .

I just want to see Taiko and Tales of Switch.

They are supposed to come out this fy and Bamco hasn't shown a single image regarding those games which is bizarre.

Zelda will for sure hit 1million in Japan at retail. It's really amazing.

Someone has the chart for the other Zelda sales in Japan -- anyone have it on them?

It still baffles me how half of the Japanese Switch owners would pass on Zelda(drastically rising, as there were 60K switch and again only a few BoTW sales), it's much better than all of the games the series had since Majoras Mask... -But then again, I don't think Majoras Mask sold that much, nor did probably Ocarina of Time or the Zeldas before them, does anyone have numbers for Japan for those games?

Are you really sure? Only 10% of new Switch owners seem to buy the game, perhaps this number will fall even further once Mario Odyssey launches. Well I guess that game will also have a hard time reaching 1M given Japans history with 3D Marios...

Way more than 10% of new Switch owners are getting Zelda, its just that most of them are buying it used.

Mario and Zelda demographics don't really overlap, Zelda sales will drop, but not because of Mario, but because every week there's more used copies.

I wonder if the lower number for Switch the week before was a hiccup or if this last week is a temporary blip because of Monster Hunter.
I haven't been following the stock situation too closely in Japan recently, how is it sounding for this week compared to the last two weeks?

Yes, it's a subsidiary of Capcom.

I thought it was licensed to a third party but it isn't so I only guessed right that it was western developed (mentioned in the puzzle fighter thread) since the art style looks more western with regards to the Chibi look.

As someone else pointed out, the characters look similar in art style to something like Clash of Clans.

Used game sales also exist.

Most seem to buy Splatoon2 first. Not everyone could afford or is willing to buy several games at once with an already expensive consoles.

It's basically stock dependant since it's still hard to find. This week likely had more stock thanks to MHXX bundles

Well that's not good.

EMD1 had an extremely high sellthrough so that's kinda ugly

Nights of Azure 2 is probably going open at like what the original did. That reception to that game seems to have been meh though.

How high do we estimate the digital sales numbers of Yomawari? That could make up for the slightly disappointing physical sales.

30% for Nights of Azure 2. A bit low, but the split between platforms is gonna be more interesting imo.

Yes, I am really sure. I'm confident that Zelda will hit a million by next March in Japan alone, and it could do it by the end of the year.

Super Mario Odyssey will have no problem reaching 1m in Japan.

That too.
