How well did the game sell?
I asked what are your expectations about the game. Will it crack the 100k mark on both platforms?

Yes, I think it is. It didn't seem doing it "hot" on the different pre-order info, so I would assume, given the genre it is, it will kinda bomb. How are expectations for Exist Archive? It does seem another new IP bombing.

Exist Archive can somehow be compared to The Legend of Legacy: small publishers (Spike Chunsoft v. FuRyu), re-imagination of a popular jRPG IP (Valkyrie Profile v. SaGa), involved staffs belonging to Square Enix. I feel Exist Archive has some advantages: it is on two platforms; Valykrie Profile has always been associated with PS nore than how SaGa has been associated with Nintendo; marketing budget seems higher - it got a Famitsu cover and a lot of coverage by magazine, and a TV ad (The Legend of Legacy also got a nice coverage though). Also, tri-Ace is a well-known company among jRPG fans.
The Legend of Legacy ended at around 75-80k so I think Exist Archive should be aimed at doing something more, around 90-95k. In fact, the game is being released today and I havent' seen much anticipation so it might do half of that.

Speaking of anticipation, shall we expect #FE numbers to be more close to Fire Emblem or Persona ?
#FE is going to be the bomba to end all bombas. Poor thing.
An update on the Setsuna website ! With new SCREENSHOTS. Sure, that's the first one since a month ago, but you can feel how the marketing is heating for this juggernaut. At this point, 300K at launch would be the bare minimum.
[PS4] Fallout 4 # <RPG> (Bethesda Softworks) (¥8.618)
I'm expecting big debut. Maybe 100k (or is that too much?)
Oh boy they really are going all out marketing this game. Can you imagine the budget for this. Setsuna is bomba if it does not at least sell 300k.

As you know, creating high-definition character models is a very complicated process, but in simple terms there are two major factors when creating good character models: creating high-quality assets, and the implementation of those assets by a team of skilled staff. If one or both of those requirements aren't fully satisfied, the ideal result cannot be realised. We are a very small studio, which is sometimes good but also sometimes restrictive in terms of manpower and resources, so we can't always achieve everything we would wish for.
I also think it's really meaningful that this is a middle tier title, rather than a AAA title
If, say, a human character needs a map around 1km square to play on, then a robot six times that size would need a map 6km squarein other words, 36 times the size. At the same time, we cant multiply our dev budget by 36 times what we need to create maps for human characters, so we needed to innovate with ways to express that kind of scope while keeping costs down. I think we did a really good job striking a balance with this project.
Except for a subset of titles, Japanese RPGs are budgeted so theyll make a profit off sales within Japan alone, says Takahasi. It seems to me that building the entire world of the game itself (making it open-world) is considered one must-have element for Western RPGs nowadays, but that just cant be done in the current Japan scene. But lately, Ive started to wonder about whether this is really just because of budgetary issues. I think this is probably due to differences in cultural tastes, but in the current situation, its difficult to take content created in Japan and have it accepted in the West. As a result, you can only create things scaled to make money within Japan alone, and it becomes this negative spiral
Were also seeing mobile games flourish in Japan while the console market declines, but the type of audience playing mobile games in Japan now has never bought my games, not since even before mobile existed. I consider the entire world to be my main field of battle, so I dont worry about that at all. I also think that other companies RPGs, those with the potential to fight it out on the world market, arent going to be threatened by the state of mobile within Japan. Thats the kind of thought process that led to the completion of Xenoblade Chronicles X, and I hope that people will be willing to give it a try.
"With that game we'd learned how to create locations that are fun to explore on a budget," he explains. "If we had no restrictions at all in terms of costs, then for example we could easily make a varied and interesting map simply by creating textures and models for four or five different to use in a single 20km squared area. But within restrictions we had the difficult task of creating varied and fun locations using just the textures and models for a single kind of environment."
We don't know the exact scale of the game but that's a pretty good analysis, alas it doesn't seem like it will reach these numbers.
Wow. I don't often agree with you, but this is on point.
Apart from the fact that it should reach 90k. Don't agree with your reasons for why it should be getting more.
With that said, it looks like its going to be in the ballpark of Grand Kingdom sales, another spiritual successor IP made by Spike Chunsoft which bombed. What a shame.
All these budget/cost comments make it seems that the budget for XCX was not so high as some of us expected. Anyone has a list of people involved in XCX? Could the game be a success even selling 500.000 WW?
Interesting interviews by the way, highly recommended!
Are the Mario and Luigi sales normal? That's a low sellthrough although I know it'll sell over time.
Poorest performance ever for the franchise. The previous M&L game on 3DS sold well and Paper Mario 3DS is the best selling entry in the series. Perhaps franchise fatigue and little advertisement hit hard this time.
Right, it seems the game will eventually sell way lower than where I think expectations should be set.
100K for me too, no less. It has just reached 100 points on Comgnet, also.
After Fallout 4, there will be a whole new entire month without any release on PS4 in Japan D:
Until Odin Sphere Leifdrasir on January 14 if I'm right.
23/12-14/01 = a whole new month.
And every other system gets numerous releases during that period.
It will be at https://www.nintendo.co.jp/wiiu/software/ranking.html WHEN it charts lolJust wondering is there anyone in Japan that can say how minecraft is doing so far on the eshop chart?
What you don't understand is that there new PS4 releases at Dec 23 and no system gets new releases from that week until January 14.

If I've read it correctly, it became available at 18:00 PM JPT, so...around 5 hours ago.
But today there have been major Nintendo Network problems (log in not working), so we still have to wait and see when it charts.
