Media Create Sales: Week 50, 2016 (Dec 12 - Dec 18)

I think the biggest set back for FFXV in Japan is the physical shipment. It shipped a million copies and it's not going to be able to sell it out, which means there was a overestimation of demand by retailers and S-E. This hurts the image of the FF brand on the retail level.

Beyond that, I think the results are not disastrous. It's doing better now than it seemed at launch, but those unsold copies are still going to be sitting there. Not a healthy outcome for S-E.

I think they are going to be alright with FF12 and it will at least move a bit of XV if they play their cards right. I also think they should do something with XV when they release future FF titles , especially remake (if it has any chance in getting out early)

I think XV will have very good sales as well when the game goes on sale next year. It seems to be a game that will do well with good sales in the near future.

FFXII HD will probably not do well in Japan at all. The entry isn't particularly well liked in Japan and is more of a darling outside of the domestic market. There will be zero impact on FFXV.

Maybe they'll reach a million with the impressive word of mouth.

Actually, I guess Rakuten reviews aren't that bad.

Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS is the over-performer of this holiday season, it will have crossed 600.000 units after just 4 weeks. I don't think anybody came remotely close to its actual sales in our prediction league, same for YSO based on their first week predictions.

Edit: Yeshua predicted 500.000 units, the rest 200.000 - 300.000.

TBH I think it is barely a darling of the domestic market.

I really think numbers for it are gonna be shocking compared to X/X-2 HD remaster.

Super Mario Maker is just a (multi)million title that was held back because of Wii U. It was hard to predict its sales.

It certainly sold much better than expected... though judging by the lack of shortages, both Nintendo and retailers expected as much.

I knew SMM for Nintendo 3DS would sell well, but not that well. I think that, at this rate, it might well end up at 1m LTD. We will see how big the drop in early January is, that should give us an idea of whether it will reach that or not.

It is doing wonders for the brand as expected.

Not really, not yet. SMB2 is in the Top 20 thanks to the Nintendo 2DS bundle. Super Mario Maker was selling great before SMR even come out.

It's a bit too early to say SMR has an impact on NSMB2 sales.

By the way, looking at this...

08./00. [3DS] Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball Heroes <SPT> (Konami) {2016.12.15} (¥4.500) - 26.673 / NEW

Guess people had their fill with 2016 on PS consoles and/or mobile game. Even the worst-selling SKU (PS3) sold almost twice as much as this (46k, Famitsu data though).

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Mario Maker going up.
New Super Mario Bros. 2 is back.

Super Mario Run effect?

New Super Mario Bros. 2 had a 2DS bundle released exactly on December 15th, but yes, I suppose it's possible Mario Run helped the bundle to have this debut. Still, we'll have to see how it sells in the next few weeks.

OMFG @ Mario Maker, instead.

Nice hold for FFXV. Could PS4 outdo PS3's best year?

Would mean it has to have one hell of a hold over the next two weeks. Like 75k a piece. It'll be close. Though it looks like it'll barely fall short.

Another close race in PSV MineCraft to 1mil in 2016. 20k sold this week. Just needs 34k more. Awesome to see.

No precipitation on my anticipation please and thank you!

Great start for Sukiyaki. It just might hit 1 million if Level 5 play their cards right.

And 3DS is about to get another million seller with Mario Maker.

With digital sales combined, I would think XV has a solid chance of selling just over a million over the month or so.

However, it seems unlikely to clear the initial shipment within the near future (1-2months).

I had a feeling that the lack of online didn't matter for Mario Maker 3DS in Japan.

Streetpass is like a religion there.

So as hiska-kun pointed out, Pokémon Sun and Moon is basically at 2.9m right now.

So far, all versions have sold a combined 2 893 944 units, including the double-pack counted as two units (314 984 as of Week 48). If you add digital, it's definitely at 2.9m already.

So because FFXV shit the bed, the PS4 won't be getting a million seller. DQXI will be split amongst 3 systems and I think the PS4 version will come slightly under that mark.

Believe in RE7

It would do better if it is bundled with a FFVIIr demo code. One can only dream

Last week 2DS outsold PSP go (175.987) and this Vita TV (185.451). GB Micro is at 587.487.

Ah, thanks a bunch for the data. Guess the GB Micro might not be that hard to reach, though that will depend on how fast 3DS sales drop in 2017 I guess.

That game...

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Mario Maker would have done well anyways - dont need to pretend as if it would have flopped without SMR raising awareness. Its a 2D Mario plattformer on the 3DS during the Holidays.

Exactly the reason why Nintendo had to get it out this year, even if it meant no online for the initial release.

I think a comparison with the Power Pro Kun series makes more sense:

Fairly certain there will not be online like on Wii U period (or did I miss an announcement?).

Hmm, looks like Mario Party: Star Rush is doing better than initial sales indicated. It's been having some solid legs, even before the holiday period began.

XIII trilogy not the best way to judge but it seems that word-of-mouth for the game is pretty good right now?

While many game did really well for me, i am quite shocked that Jikkyou Power Pro 3DS did that low.O_O

I mean wut? I thought this game is a sure great seller title here especially after how 3DS is starved off Jikkyou title.

That's pretty good for Scarlet Grace then, I' say. Not like a Star Ocean style drop off.

Why are you comparing a brand new SaGa game made in the style of the much more popular entries with remakes of the oldest entries of the series?

We should be comparing with Unlimited SaGa and Minstrel Song, not SaGa 2 DS and SaGa 3 DS.
