MS banning users over Halo 4 DLC debacle

Playing those maps for free is like STEALING. I say ban and charge their credit card for the cost of the maps that the thieves enjoyed at Microsoft's expense.

I'm not sure stealing free things makes you a thief. I mean, I don't get arrested or charged for taking dinner mints from a restaurant after i've paid for my dinner.

I don't get it.. This is digital right? It has a license right? If there was a glitch, why don't they like.. remove access to the DLC instead of banning people?

oh cause that would actually make sense.

game has like 2 small maps ... they release DLC of all big maps

game doesnt have campaign theater, you cant go back and watch campaign files.

nothing they do is making sense.

Highly highly doubt that this is actual what's going on. There are other factors involved which will undoubtedly come to light over the next few days. But go ahead and have your few pages of bitchfest about how evil M$ is, how shitty Xbox Live is, and how terrible Halo 4 is.

We will, and rightfully so. Yes this is probably a mix up , and may be rectified. But dude, come on. We pay for a service that frequently fucks up and punishes the users. We are owed a service that WORKS and does not screw up like this because we are paying customers. We do not need to sit here and take it just because its MS and they can do what they like. The moment you become complacent with shitty business practice is the moment it becomes the norm. MS aren't evil. Just really dumb.

I was recently permanently banned from halo 4 online features. I have read some of the above posts and seen many problems with the Crimson Map Pack. I got the Limited Edition of Halo 4, and thus the Crimson Map Pack for no extra charge. I have played some games (both offline and online) on the new maps. Is this a possible cause for my ban? Another detail, I downloaded the pack yesterday. Thanks for any help.
Limited edition came with the season pass.

MS provide early specialisation code as per promotion that ran until Nov 20

Code has a glitch which allows users to download Crimson Map Pack for free

MS embrace the glitch and tells users to download, allowing them to play for a limited time

MS begins banning said users who who were encouraged to download their "glitch" DLC

That's fucking entrapment :lol

OP, probably chuck this in the OP for those who aren't aware

This is some psychotic shit on MS's part.

So it's not just banning from Halo 4?

They actually ban the console from XBL? Rendering the console useless in terms of multiplayer and resell value?

At this point I'm not even sure who is joking and who is not :S

Confidence Man is joking; Monumental is holding back tears.

Funny part about it is, that you don't even need to play the maps in matchmaking. You can play them aswell in customs/forge and you will receive the ban, too. It really is some kind "unlicensed" purchase glitch.

Some users are reporting, that they donwloaded the maps on the 1st day with the LE season pass, but they didn't played Halo 4 until today/yesterday and they got banned, too. If this isn't getting fixed soon, I fear that the majority will experience a ban.

So what's your theory?

Looking at that thread, it seems like:

-People who used the specialization code for the trial promotion
-People who bought the pack separately
-People who bought the LE
-People who bought the Season Pass

...are all having issues with random bans. I just checked my game and I haven't been banned, and a lot of folks on the forum are saying that they got banned in Theater or after a game. I haven't had much time to play recently.

Maybe there's an issue with the map pack itself?

Maybe its an issue with the glitched achievements and MS thinking people are hacking them?

Nope, because it detects you also if you play them in customs. A friend of mine hasn't a single achievement and he was getting an ingame message saying he is perma banned in custom games. Wasn't even a DLC map, that he was playing, too.

Whelp, I'm going in. Time to see if I get banned.

Good luck.

Given the wording used I'm inclined to believe Monumental being serious and Confidence Man is being sarcastic :X

Forum games are fun!

I think the second guy is joking.

So what's going on?

Haha I see. Maybe I should have had more 'confidence' in him..amiright? amiright?

I'm so funny :D

Btw I hope this gets resolved asap. I feel for the players. It's just not fair by any means. Besides this is NOT good PR for MS going into next gen.

Reading more comments, it really does seem like the only thread linking the bans is the map pack, not method of acquisition. It's gotta be a problem with the pack/the latest update.

At this rate matchmaking is going to become barren as anyone who played the game is banned.

If it's on the scale it sounds like it, it is probably automated and happening without any real intent on Microsoft's part-- maybe a check on some sort of flag or something. I'd bet it is all reversed, but slowly and annoyingly (and it happened during a bad time of the year with Christmas coming up).

I won't spend another dime on anything online related on the 360. MS is way too trigger happy when it comes to punishing their customers for pretty much anything they don't like.

I'll start using the console offline whenever possible again, just like before I got a Slim with WiFi functionality last year.

Right now, I've completely lost any trust in MS when it comes to XBox gaming.

Sure seems to be the case. Dunno if this already got posted, but one dude's personal detailed account from the linked waypoint thread seems to be specifically about that.

Another Update....

Reading the posts and comments about he map pack, I asked my son if he downloaded it and when. He says he downloaded it last week, but he thinks Friday night was the first time he actually played matchmaking on a map from the pack.

He said that durning the match, everyone got booted out and so he went into another match on a stock map. That's when he got the permanent ban message.

To clarify, from my original post, he has the Limited Edition.

Reading these post, I have to say this is getting a bit ridicules. I sincerely hope that tomorrow 343 will be addressing these issues. Since no one has responded to my post (echoing the other parent on here about the "community keeping people honest) I guess we will have to go at this from another direction. But since someone suggested to post if this appeared to have any relation to the map pack, I wanted to offer up the înfo.

Thank you

Still online with mine at least for now anyway. Sucks ass for people affected by it. There are fuck ups then there is this shit. MS needs to fix this shit yesterday...

So these things are becoming frequent. As such, is there a consumer rights group dedicated to these sorts of digital content and gaming content access related issues?

Especially since it looks like everyone getting banned is getting banned during or after a game.

Yeah. I wonder if whatever auto-ban checks Halo 4 makes weren't changed to reflect the difference between LE/purchased/trial licenses or something.

Sure seems to be the case. Dunno if this already got posted, but one dude's personal detailed account from the linked waypoint thread seems to be specifically about that.

Yeah, it sounds like everyone getting banned is getting banned during/after a game or theater session. I just checked and I can still access all the online options, and I have the trial pack (and was planning on buying the full thing on the 18th, but maybe not if this doesn't pan out). I guess I'll just avoid playing the game until this is all fixed?
