What is it?
This is the second season of the anime adaptation of Noragami (Stray God). It is a Japanese manga series authored by Adachitoka that began serialization in Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Magazine in January 2011's issue. The manga is published by Kodansha Comics in the US.
Adachitoka is the pen name for two female manga-ka: Adachi, who is in charge of foreground characters and Tokashiki, who is in charge of backgrounds.
Plot synopsis
In the first season, Yato is a minor god whose dream is to have a lot of followers worshipping him and praying to him. Unfortunately, his dream is far from coming true since he doesn't even have a single shrine dedicated to him. To make things worse, the only partner he had to help him solve people's problems, had just quit the job.
His godly existence and luck just might change when he stumbles upon Iki Hiyori and saves her life; a feat which also leaves her in quite a predicament so she is stuck with him until her problem gets resolved. Together with Hiyori and his new partner-weapon Yukine, Yato will do everything he can to gain fame, recognition and just maybe, one shrine dedicated to him, as well.
In the second season of Noragami the main focus is on Bishamon, god of combat. She has a strong hate for Yato, as a dark past binds the two of them. How will the horrifying events dated hundreds of years ago in combination with current evil happenings affect Yato and Yukine?
Why should I care?
It features a supernatural cast of deities and spirits from Japanese Shinto lore mixed with modern settings. Despite being a shonen manga, it focus more on character development and relationships than battles. It has a good mix of humor and serious moments.
The action and animation is guaranteed to be great because it is being produced by BONES, a studio that has a number of recognized productions. The first season showed good production values and was well received by anime fans and AnimeGAF. Also it has awesome Taku Iwasaki music. Oh yeah, BONES is duckroll favorite studio.

Why should I care if I did not like the first season?
The first season only adapted the first arc of the manga and finished it with anime original content, leaving many plot threads unresolved and little of the world developed. The second season is all about, as described at the plot synopsis, unraveling what happened in the past between Bishamon and Yato. It will also expand the cast by introducing the god Ebisu and Bishamon shinki. Finally, first season spoilers
