Ready at Dawn responds to "concern" over The Order: 1886 campaign length

I think the 3 hours is the time of actual gameplay people are referring to

What other game have people done this for? Comb through every second of footage and determine exactly how many minutes you're in complete control of the character? It's just ridiculous at this point. People need to play the game and judge the game as a whole for themselves.

I'm totally okay with a well crafted good looking 6 hour cinematic experience. Ryse was great because of this... The gameplay was sort of average but due to the graphics, nice story and short length it never overstayed it's welcome and was ultimately an extremely enjoyable experience.

I just won't pay full price for this. I'll wait till its 30-40$ like I did with ryse.

Hey guys, maybe just wait until after it comes out and then find out how long it is before you buy it? I don't understand the way people worry about whether or not a game will be good. Your life is not going to be affected if a game bombs critically and you have to pass on it.

I wish developers would make the difficulty the game was meant to be played on "normal".

I agree. Too often Normal is the new Easy. But maybe we feel that way because we're core gamers. But it is one of the reasons I think that fourth extra ultra hard difficulty is a great addition. Grounded, Veteran, Legendary etc.

Another day, another Order thread. For a game that seemed to be slipping under the radar, it's been quite a turn around. Anyways, I'll be there day 1.

I will not buy the game for 3-5 hours of gameplay and not multi - not in this day and age.

Let's hope there's some more value here.

Guys it's worth $60 for the graphics alone. The gameplay and story are just icing on the cake.
/s...but not really cause this game looks insane

Sounds like a parody of modern gaming.

I do not mind paying 60€ for a game if it has some kind of replayability. Different dialogue choices ala Dragon Age, a karma system like in Second Son, or the "git gud" of Dark Souls. Whatever justifies the investment for some months. If the game is an straightforward experience there is a big chance I wait until it is on sale or free in PS+

There are exceptions of course, but I do not see this game is going to be one of them.

Hard is probably the way to go forward then. I hope they add in a harder difficulty later the way ND did with LoU. A grounded of sorts.
RAD recommends Hard anyways, so that's where I'll be starting as well. A new difficulty mode would usually be nice, but all it will be is tougher enemies and more incoming damage in this sort of game. Maybe keep it as Hard but maybe a perma death? Shouldn't be too bad for an 8 hour run (Going by Osiris' Hard mode play time).

Also agree with you guys that normal should be normal, not the new easy difficulty and easy/casual being demi-god mode.

So any transitional section of a game where you are not directly engaging in an activity such as combat/stealth/etc is like watching porn now?

No, it's just not gameplay. If you're in Skyrim and you're walking around and exploring, that counts. But if you're just examining the shiny corridor you're in, then not really. But more than anything this analogy is getting twisted.

Yep and I loved Ryse. I got it on the cheap, but would have had no problem paying full price for it. I am thinking it will be a similar deal for me here and still feel good about my pre-order.

People would like to play and judge the game, it's just that some people feel like the value of a game that short isn't worth it and they are trying to make an informed decision. With that said, Sony/RAD have been the one's who have been VERY secretive about what has been released about this game. Also, haven't Sony first party games generally been reviewed well ahead of time (correct me if I'm wrong)?

Is there a trend of gamers becoming increasingly emotionally involved wether an AAA+ game fails or succeeds?

I don't know about emotionally involved, but if I spent ___ on a Next-Gen console and all the presupposed "system sellers" turn out to be mediocre, or even bad, then being "financially invested" into something that is not living up to your money could cause discontent. $60 is a lot of money, I don't care what anyone says. Same with $399 for the console itself.

These are big financial investments more than anything else.

Emotions are tied to expectations. Money is tied to livelihood.

I think I'm getting too philosophical lol

RAD patched out content apparently.

I thought that was Bungies business model.

Either way. I'm excited for a 5-10 hour experience. Not all games need constant gsmeplay and if this just gives me an experience and keeps me entertained I'll be ok. I re watch movies constantly so I might be the minority that will get alot of bang for my buck here

It's not that rare.

There were tons of threads and coverage on big sites when it was revealed that Metal Gear Rising was only about 6 hours long.

At the time plenty of message boards and bigger sites also took the time to point out that the actual lenght of the game was more like 4 hours of actual gameplay if you don't consider cutscenes. Seems like a pretty natural reaction from people when rumors surface about a highly anticipated AAA being shockingly short

I wonder how many people who were concerned about the length have been put off buying it.

A few I would imagine. These people with 'concerns' and trolling have really made a rod for their back going forward. Any game from MS that falls under 10 hours will be mauled to death by angry Sony fans who have got sick and tired of this constant Sony exclusive bashing. It's going to get ugly.

Ground Zeroes as a recent example?

As has been brought up, this isn't the first game that "time" has been of concern for people. The extremes we're getting too is a bit of a novelty but its also not unheard of and, likely, being exasperated by the lack of any other modes of gameplay.

The amusing thing is the YouTuber is very wrong about the cut scene ratio of his own play through :p Based on his own video evidence and all lol.

He probably is going off memory, I doubt he went back and reviewed the videos.

Oh, now we're down to 1 and a half hours, huh. That moving goal post of doom.

I just want to know how much of the game is actually bullets leaving the gun after I've pulled the trigger and hitting bodies - if I'm just looking around and aiming ... well that's just porn, not gameplay.

Hopefully somebody will add it all up for me.

I'm still going to play and enjoy this when it comes out. I guess play length can matter for some, but I'm fine with what they give and how much it'll be based on the good info we got from the last thread. No I have not watched the YT vid or read any comments specific to the online play through because I'm more interested in experiencing games myself over watching a video and reading a crib notes version.

That's not even remotely close to what he's saying.

The Last of Us was paced extremely well, same with Uncharted and RE4. The length of those campaigns are justified and work will with the game and story.

Instead of having filler shit, or bogging down the story/game with stuff just for the sake of padding, he prefers a game to cut all the bullshit and tell a story that requires X amount of length, and lets face is, tons of games have padding for the sake of artificial length.

Also, the amount of bullshit people have produced over this game, and the volatile natures of The Order threads be all like

cme3hdj.gif

I'd say the examples you provide even had some form of padding or another just to stretch things out a little more, though they did a good job at disguising most of it as progress. As an example, TLoU
Pittsburgh proper felt like it did go on for far too long as well as the first real combat encounter was more a chore than anything else.
I will agree that all three were masterfully paced.

Some might remember Terminator on the Mega Drive, £40 back in 1992 and lasted 20 minutes, only 4 levels. I enjoyed it immensely and just loved playing through many times, even the title screen was epic. Back then it was a very good looking game and neat gameplay, very much captured the look and feel of the film for the time. The only saving grace for some was it was quite difficult. This game was controversial back then as most games on first try would take 3-10 hours.

The Order looks to be a great spectacle, I can't have a pop at devs doing what they do but was shocked just how much cut scene and walking there is compared to the third person shooting 4 years dev time and guessing $30 million. Still, one chapter of the order has more gameplay than one of my favorite games. It's nice to have different games and to try more things. I think the Order 1886 will be quite influential over the next few years.

What does this have to do with the system the game is coming out for at all? The game was originally divisive because of RAD's self-purported "filmic" vision for the game that probably didn't appeal to everyone (nor should it have to), and now it's a matter of game length--a valid concern for people spending sixty dollars on a product that has shown to be on the short side in some playthroughs. Some of the games have been criticized for legitimate reasons (along with the slew of trolling that comes along with any highly marketed or popular game). This tribalistic mentality is getting ridiculous.

The Quantum Break Review Thread should be Interesting™

So last night the verdict was 10-12 hours as stated by Gaffers with the game. I woke up and people who have not played the game claim it to be 5/6 hours instead. Just got home from work and it is now only an hour and a half according to a youtube comment.

What the hell.

I payed full price for Ryse and enjoyed it. Then again, i love hack and slash games and arcade-like experiences.

You can even see it happen again with Kamiya's tweets about The Wonderful 101 prior to its release :p http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=550184

"I know there are numbers out there," he said. "I know why the question comes up. I know numbers have been put out there that are actually not right. It's impossible to finish the game in that time, so we know the numbers are wrong.

Oh really now? Can't wait to see the speedrunning community sink its teeth into the game then.

Clearly as more people play the game, RAD has an algorithm that shortens the game. So on release the length of the game will be approaching zero infinitely!

Its the incredible shrinking game!

Come tomorrow it will cut to credits as soon as you leave the title screen.
