I think it really started to hit me when I booted up Splatoon & saw everyone's Iwata posts in Inkopolis. I actually started to cry again.

We're gonna miss you, Iwata.

I went back and watched the credits to see Iwata's name at the end of them :(

Thank you.

This is a sad day... Thank you for everything, Mr. Iwata. Your passion for this medium was one-of-a-kind, and it showed in the amazing games that you fostered and helped to build... This industry is not the same without you. RIP.

Just read on /v/ that the last thing Iwata did publicly was respond to the criticism of this year's E3 (via Twitter). Please tell me that's not right...

"Even if we come from different sides of the world, speak different languages, even if we eat too many chips or rice balls, even if we have different tastes in games, every one of us here today is identical in the most important way: each one of us has the heart of a gamer."

The feels just keep flowing man

I legit shook.

RIP Mr. Satoru Iwata. Thank you for all your contributions the world of gaming & life. You'll be missed, today we lost one of our best.

:(

I want to play some games but I can't really now.
Before I heard about this, I was planning to play Fallout New Vegas, which seems so divorced from my thoughts of Nintendo that are floating around now... But at the same time, playing something Nintendo might feel too tough....

Oh man...

Out of all of the (incredible) tribute images so far, this has hit me the hardest. Nintendo games exist in brightest parts of human imagination - they push the buttons at the epicenter of fun, slide through our brains bringing a trail of creative whimsy in their wake. Seeing a picture of Kirby crying, or Mario with his head bowed still takes me to those vibrant worlds - a sadder continent to be sure, but in those vibrant worlds nonetheless.

This image, though... this is brick and stone. Metal and mortar. This is real. An actual human of finite longevity, of failing flesh and blood, will soon be laid to rest. Another incarnation of the man can't be programmed, another Iwata asks can never be held, and another direct with him will never be filmed.

Iwata's final credits are here, the closing coda on one of the most genuine and beloved characters the game of life ever programmed. Sure, we can replay Iwata's greatest moments, but we'll never get another new level.

So thank you, Satoru Iwata. Thank you for your integrity, thank you for your prowess, and most of all - thank you for leading us through the few bright spots Earth still has to offer. </3

It depends on if you count the investors meeting, but other than that yeah

In terms of speaking to the public? Yes
But he did the Iwata Asks: Fire Emblem Fates since then.

Took a nap and woke up to see this in my Twitter feed. I was praying it was a joke until I arrived to NeoGAF. RIP Iwata😟

This is a huge shock... He was way too young. Condolences to his family, both relatives and the employees of Nintendo. The gaming industry has had one of its stars burn out today. If someone could put a ribbon on my avatar, I'd really appreciate it and swap to it as soon as I can

This is so sad. I'm a gamer because of Nintendo and I'm still a gamer after all these years (36 years old here) because of people like Iwata in the industry. Many of the best moments of my life were spent playing games where he participated in some way.

I'm truly sad. What an awful thing to happen,

Thank you, Mr. Iwata, for all the joys you brought to my life. You'll be missed.

I immediately asked the art team if they could come up with something upon hearing the news. That being said, the posts yelling and demanding a logo change have in some cases been extremely rude and inappropriate, and the current Pride logo was intended to run through July to celebrate marriage equality in the United States, which is an important sentiment in its own right. If the art team creates something we're happy with then a special memorial logo may be uploaded. Please remain calm and let us run the site on our own terms, and do no derail the thread around logo change talk, either way. Thanks.

Understood :) Thank you!!

I'm gonna admit something really cheesy here.

Whenever I would watch the Nintendo Directs and Iwata would wave goodbye, I'd always wave back. A silly little thing, but I enjoyed doing it.

I guess that won't be happening anymore :(

That's just really niceee :') I smiled really hard everytime I saw Iwata appearing on a new Nintendo Direct, especially on his very last appearence on the April Direct...

Oh jeez you're right. Way too random to be a coincidence.

I want to believe it's not true. Everything was just too sudden and that's why they dont have a replacement linet up already.

I want to believe....

Shinning a new light on a number of choices made recently. :(

Yeah looks like Nintendo of America already knew just how ill Iwata was during E3 so maybe they did him a little tribute by adding Balloon Trip on the Championship... who knows.

Just got back from the hospital as I broke my collarbone but I am numb at this news and feel no physical pain but teared up and am quite sad.

Loved Iwata, a gamer CEO in an industry lacking them.

Oh man hope it wasn't too serious and you get well soon.
