You should have paid attention, the option to play without gyro aim was already in the E3 demo and lots of posts in this thread said that too.No, the people that played after me complained about it, the guys I played with complained about it, I complained about it. The Nintendo booth dude says "we've heard this feedback from everyone and the devs know about it."
People hated it. It literally makes it an ultra clunky TPS.
It shouldn't even be available at all, and knowing Nintendo, they're pretty stubborn when it comes to game design.

Fuck me for wanting options right? Plus, analog aiming is in the game, so sod off.
Oh you poor thing
You probably confuse it with something like faceraiders.. The Gyro is used for small adjustments, you will move around via analog, the gyro ist just there to replace the necessity for stuff like autoaim.
Watch the Treehouse E3 videos on it. It looks awesome.
(Or visit Nintenoland / The panorama & streetview apps to experience the gamepads awesome 9 axis precision.)
Games with good gyro aim:
Ocarina of Time 3D
RE: Revelations (3DS version only)
Batman Arkham City: Armored Edition (used for some of the gadgets)
The Wind Waker HD
Metroid Blast, Zelda: Battle Quest in Nintendo Land
ZombiU (for sniper rifle and scanner)
Zero 5 (Fatal Frame) (for the camera obscura)
Captain Toad (minecart levels with shooting)
Skyward Sword (bow/slingshot aiming)
It looks like they didn't listen to anyone at E3. Everyone hated it.
You guys are ruining the celebration of this awesome game with your gyroscope arguments.
so much this! Let's discuss something that's worth to discuss. Like uhhmmm, other mp modes?
Do you guys think there will me other modes besides turf war? Any ideas for other modes?
Well I can imagine a few other modes. I think a mode similar to capture the flag would be possible. Maybe even a free for all mode. Lots of possibilities.

This is exactly the opposite of what I remember reading from e3.
Splatoon PotD?
.You guys are ruining the celebration of this awesome game with your gyroscope arguments.
Gyroscope positional tracking isn't as precise or accurate as inside out positional tracking.
It's the exact same thing, though. Imagine it like a super-wide Wiimote.
They need to add Wii remote controls. IR aiming is better than gyro and the split controller setup is far more comfortable than the bulky gamepad. Wiimote & Nunchuk controls would be simple to implement:
Z - Squid (dive into ink, restores ink)
Nunchuk joystick - move
C - Bomb (uses 70% of your ink)
B - Ink Shot (uses up ink)
D-pad left/right - looks left/right
A - Jump
D-pad down - Camera Reset
Press or hold minus to overlay map, point at the Squid Icon to make a big jump to one of your team mates.
Use pointer to aim

A lot of undocumented statements in this thread, really. Wii U is not the brightest kid in school, but the Gamepad has some really nice technology in it.
The nine-axis refers to the three different sensors inside the controller that each track the X, Y, and Z axes.

What were the games that you played where Gyro controls were so bad? Did you implyed some of them were on the PS3?Firstly, fuck gyro controls. Any dev that even suggests their inclusion in a game should be taken out back and given a good kicking. Glad they're at least optional and hopefully they'll confirm pro controller support soon.
Other than that, looks great! Fingers crossed for some splitscreen multiplayer/co-op news soon.
Well if there's pro controller support then there's no reason not to have Wii Remote compatibility, at least not having a direct map shortcut won't be a reason not to support it.I hope Wii remote/nunchuck is supported as an option. The only downside I could see is losing the quick screen access to jump to various places, etc.
But fix that by having a minimap that shows the level, and then holding a button enlarges it so that you can point with the remote at where you want to jump to.
This probably takes slightly longer than using the screen for this, but to me it's worth the tradeoff of not having to use gyro controls. (Admittedly I haven't tried it, but I can't imagine rotating/orienting the gamepad with both hands is as comfortable as just tiny wrist movements with one hand for pointer aiming.)
Well Amirox, under ideal circunstances that's not likely to happen.Don't worry, we'll slaughter you on our way to the ink bank and laugh as you wonder aloud how you could be beat by your analog brethren.
Thank goodness it's optional. Nintendo yous my bros
i' ll take it you are not familiar with Krejloc XDhttp://venturebeat.com/2012/11/27/forget-six-axis-gamepad-nine-axis/

Does everyone know about mysterious Inklings, who can change into human form, that were discovered in June this year?
We're slow to say this, but we're the 'Squid Research Laboratory' and we're independently researching the Inklings. Here, we will report on our research results and other special information. Please look forward to it.
Report from the Squid Research Lab. The mysterious Inklings have a habit of dividing themselves into two teams of four and painting the ground with their ink, in what they call a Turf War. Amongst themselves, this is known as a 'Turf Battle'.
Report from the Squid Research Lab. It appears that the Turf Battles are decided by which team has the most surface area covered. You can shoot your opponents with ink to take them out, but it appears to have no impact on the result. It all comes down to who has sprayed the most ink. These are quite simple, easy-to-understand rules.
We present to you an image of the Octopus Army Corps and the protagonist wearing the Hero Suit, sent to use by one of the lab's research assistants. We say octopus, but theses guys are really more like octopus legs....What's going on with their internal organs? We will make this our next topic of research.
Report from the Squid Research Lab. Splatoon uses a combination of the GamePad's gyro sensors, and the L- and R-sticks to allow for speedy, intuitive movement. Is this the secret that allows them to be able to move freely and aim accurately?
If that is true, the interest I had in this game is 100% gone.
...lol, I work with positional tracking, that's my job. Your post doesn't refute what I said. No gyroscope is on par with inside out positional tracking. It's nature of the tech.
.
Here's a couple of Tweets I missed (nothing too exciting, but I was asked via PM, so here you go!):
Well Amirox, under ideal circunstances that's not likely to happen.
You still have your aiming working as usual with the dual analog setup but on top of that you have an extra degree of control. The fact is you have more precision to do minuscule movements with both hands than with just one thumb. The gyroscope is far more sensitive than a thumbstick and you are controlling the reticule motions with two hands.
The high sensitivity is not a concern also. i don't have the exact details but when using it in Nintendo Land or Wind Waker HD even if it's super sensitive the cursor is not dancing around the screen. After some hours of practice you even forget you are making the corrections with your hands, it becomes second nature.
Isn't the middle one (blue/red) kinda problematic with a considerably popular type of color blindness ?
If I had known it'd help me understand Splatoon updates, I would've studied harder when I took Japanese in college :-\Yeah. Another update. Here. A link.

Something about the ink colors?
