I have 562 moons

There's no point in continuing since you dont get anything if you get all the moons. 560 is the max you need to unlock all the content in the game

But you won't get to see all of said content if you don't go looking for every moon. Unlocking every kingdom isn't unlocking all the content.

So I'm having trouble finding a moon in the cascade kingdom.
I can't find the secret path to fossil falls. I ended up watching a video to find the painting and everything I see has the painting being in seaside falls where the octopus boss was. However when I went there it instead had a picture of the wooded kingdom. I had no idea the pictures could wind up in different places for different people. Anyone know where the wooded kingdom pic usually is because I'd have to guess that's where my cascade kingdom painting is.

Still thats no excuse for an underwhelming (in terms of diff) main plot.something should change at least 64 had higher difficulty if you were to get 60 stars.

Galaxy 2 was better as well i think something should change

Agreed, besides, most of us, once we finish the game we are done with it and you move on, so that increase in difficulty is lost on us. Make the game challenging from the start, add a baby mode for the kids, but don't make it a breeze for all of us.

Finally unlocked the final
darkest side
kingdom.
That shit is straight up brutal, I didn't ask for this. Managed to get up to the wall clinging with the bird but instant death for making a mistake is way way too punishing given how long the stage is and how precise some of those swing movements are. I think I'll save that one for another day...

On going beyond the amount of moons you need:
There's a "reward" for getting 999. You'll definitely need to use shops to hit that much.

Oh boy,
is it a power moon shaped like a poo to go in the odyssey?

Also the other point of getting every moon is that you get to play more Mario Odyssey.

This right here.

Just finished the game.

Controls are great expect from the jump dash not going where I'm pointing too. Moon/Stars collectibles are all over the place which makes some of them feel insignificant compared to others. All the Kingdoms look great expect for the food kingdom. Wished Nintendo didn't spoil so many...oh well.

Anyway, the game felt like it lacked context like Galaxy and Sunshine. The world of Odyssey feels out of character with the multiple Kingdoms and their themes that it is hard to pinpoint what the....feeling(?) I should get or when I'm remembering the game down the line. I dunno, feels like it lacks character overall. Also, I got hyped for Cappy and was completely dissapointed: He was just a freaking tutorial with nothing of value added. I was expecting some Mario RPG dialog from him.

Overall a strong 9/10 a weak a 8.5/10. I honestly have no idea how it scored from other websites and I have been on an internet blackout so I have no idea what is the general impression, but am guessing it won't reach Breath of The Wild levels of reviews. Somewhere around 91 Metacrtic seems about right.

Yeah, just did after I did my post.... I just have nothing witty to say tbh.

97 Meta? Are you kidding me? Why does Nintendo even try at this point..?
well they dont have many (any?) recent games above 95.

Seems their 'open' strategy is paying off in terms of critics.

BotW >>> Odyssey :p

Really digging Odyssey thus far. Co-op is broken just like in Galaxy, perhaps more so, but that's the way I like it!

Can i ask what happened with Zarro what did he do?

Posted a column of pornographic images in a couple threads (including this). Thankfully deleted from here now. Worth leaving behind us.

Beat the game last night and now I'm on post game at 256 Moons. Amazing, amazing game. Every time a 3D Mario comes out, I don't expect Nintendo to outdo themselves due to the high bar set, but I'm proven wrong everytime.

I think I'll take the game slower now. I'm clearly not even halfway done, but I'll be switching to other games while still playing this now that the main story is done.

You can't get them all on your first visit, but there are no "activate thing in world A to change something in world B" situations as far as I've seen.

There are
moons in kingdoms that are accessed from other kingdoms via paintings.

Holy shit, the movie theatre scene in New Donk.

This game is fucking outstanding.

Oh damn, where is the theater at? I keep seeing NPC chatter about it but all I can find is an animated sign with some old Donkey Kong art on it.

You were pretty close to completing it!

I'm going back in

I DID IT

Cheers for the encouragement, I probably would have had it hanging over me had I left it be.

No idea what happened with the bird on my first run, but first of the more complicated swinging panels took me straight where I needed to go this time. No idea if it was luck or what, but boy am I glad to have finished it.

I saw some negative impressions from people before buying this and it dampened my hype, I'm actually genuinely surprised how much I love this game. I knew it would be good, but I think it's my favorite Mario game.

Some kingdoms miss their mark, it's easy, but overall I just adore exploring each world. Mario moves better than he ever has, the music is great, there are always cool things to find even after you have scoured a kingdom, good show!

More fun than BOTW for me. Beats out Galaxy 2 so far.

I guess i will never know personally, will have to watch The Completionist on YT for stuff like 100% completion on games..Atleast in games like these when you have to go above and beyond to get all shit.

I'm at around 150 moons, just wrapped up New Donk. There's some amazing moments pretty consistently, and just playing around with the environments is great. Still haven't seen much to challenge me, outside of temperamental controls and me rushing to my death occasionally, but I have faith in the stuff I have yet to see.

Is that a bad thing? I don't understand, do you hate act of playing the game that much that you are willing to watch YT instead...you know.....actual playing the game?

I just got to the kingdom after that and it has a couple of sections that definitely tested my limits and showed me there can be some challenge.

Nah i'm just saying i will never be able to do that. I might be able to finish around 70-80% of this game but i have already stumbled into frustrating trial n error platforming parts in the "post-game" that i dont wanna frustrate myself with so.

Oh okay. As for me, Im too stubborn to stop, thats how I was finally able to beat Drakengard 3 true final boss.

Besides I dont think its gonna be as hard as Special World 8 in Mario 3D Land.

Just moved on from New Donk with 255 moons. Trying my best to get as many moons as possible from each kingdom before moving on. I'll use the bird if I have to for hints, but not paying the toad to tell me where moons are. Absolutely loving this game, especially the larger kingdoms, even if it is a little easy. Glad I went in pretty much blind... so much variety an so many surprises...

I got Mario running through the city streets decked on in a tux and fedora. It's so awesome haha. It... suits him well :).

I’m pretty meh on it so far...at this point I’d say Galaxy was better.

I'm enjoying Odyssey a lot, it's at the moment my second favorite game of the year after Breath of the Wild but I think Galaxy will remain my favorite Mario game. It had more heart and a better soundtrack in my opinion.

True, I think the soundtrack from the first level where you find your first moon is the best one of the game together with thw vocal main team version. But galaxy in general has amazing soundtracks, we easily couls say it still have the best soundtracks. In terms of best boss. I would say this game, i also liked the boss
dragon
the most of all mario games, it was just Insane epic.

About bowser, i didn't liked the last vocal song, i get it, but it's not my style. I rather hoped more some epic song. I really liked this game and I know that there is still allot to discover.

Enjoying the single player with a joy con in each hand but tried the co-op with my SO and it was a disaster. SO kept tossing cappy and making us jump or leaving me with no way to fend off non stoppable enemy characters. Also we tried with one joy con each which felt, frankly, unplayable. The camera gets moved off to a ”hold Y and move joystick" set up which make it so you can no longer move camera and run around at the same time. It just doesn't jive in this game where camera angle can make or break a plan. Any tips for the one controlling Cappy? I'm thinking the only way forward is to go pro controller/double joy con.

You should be able to play with a Pro Controller + another Controller (joycon or other). Would that work better?

They are random for what I gather, just remember that each kingdom has one portal (with the exception of the first) and you'll get it eventually.

I beat bowser, and am now collecting more moons.

Still a great game, but still very disappointing, and I seriously hope we don't see more of this type of Mario from Nintendo. What I've written below are all complaints.

The main problem is one of pace. Mario games are mainly platform games and in previous games these challenges were tied to the level design and the progression of the games 'story'. For example in Mario 64 each star you unlocked would then alter the challenge, and often the level so you didn't really know what was coming up next. Same with Sunshine.

Here, the levels are mainly unchallenging (but sometimes confusing) sandboxes that you have to traverse to get to bite sized portions of platforming, and not only that, but those platform challenges aren't actually that challenging. A great deal of them are less challenging than the first level of Super Mario Bros.

So that's the problem. I don't like feeling like playing a sort of Mario Assassins Creed just to get to tiny bite sized portions of old school platforming. This game seems to be more about collecting cash and spending than actual gameplay.

... and when the really good challenges do come at the end of the game
in the form of the extra levels from the boxes, they are stripped of any sense of wonder because they all have the same futuristic graphic style
. I love those levels but it's a bit of a kick in the teeth when the game has some extremely bland looking levels to begin with.

Also, humans in fedora's aren't a substitute for turtles or boos. It's just far too western for my tastes, feeling muddled and lacking a proper identity. I get that Nintendo are trying to satirise games like GTA and Dark Souls, but that's an intellectual idea, and I think the price they've paid in gameplay is far too high.

Didn't realise the worlds actually
followed your system clock
until I played last night. A neat surprise - made the sand kingdom a bit more dangerous to walk through - not that anyone would of course.

Oh, nice! I wonder if that also applies to
the moon, since it has the sun in the skybox
.

Wedding Bowser Amiibo is a must for this game... I only use it when I have less than 10 world coins left.

Just got to the cooking world. Amazing so far. GOTY to me.

Zelda is a great GOTY game too... but is far better game than a zelda game... but Mario Odyssey is an amazing Mario game.

I see where you're coming from though to me it doesn't make the game disappointing, just different.

It's true that traditionally, in 64 and Sunshine, players are encouraged to explore the whole environment in pursuit of accomplishing one objective - e.g. Yoshi's Fruit Adventure in Mario Sunshine, and getting the star or shine is often is the culmination of half an hour of play and discovery, often utilising the entire level's layout.

Odyssey definitely asks players to explore and discover around the entire level, but its rewards form the basis of short-form challenges rather than long-form ones. I think it works, though I don't prefer it or dislike it compared with 64 or Sunshine. But you can tell 64 was a Miyamoto-directed game as its platforming and exploration are far purer - a player is more likely to play it for the joy of play than for rewards.

The big question is whether you'll still want to hang around in Odyssey's worlds after you've exhausted all their moons. I know I will for the pure joy of messing about, but I think 64 and Sunshine will have better long-term replayability. I never tire of entering a stage, picking a star or sunshine, and coming up with another creative way of solving that stage. You won't get that with Odyssey's Moons. If their position is triggered by an action it's often the result of a minute or two of gameplay, rather than an adventure around the entire level. There are exceptions to the rule - Koopa Freerunning appears in every kingdom - but it's clear that moons aren't long-form challenges which will inevitably change the game once you've exhausted them all.

Dark soul is linear not oris it also a free open world? Otherwise I don't get his comment

I don't want Nintendo to change, I hope all adventure/action games are going to the sandbox direction. I always wanted to have those freedom, I loved UO and wow for that.

Thats why I don't like those AAA games on other consoles because of those linear stuff in it. They are forcing you to play a story in a specific way instead of giving you the freedom to make your own adventure. I don't like allot of scenes like you have in the witcher3.
It could be a fantastic story game, but I do prefer the freedom in game. I love stories, but therefore I've my books or movies to do this.
