I'm really not sure this deserves a thread, so here I go;
Came back from that Chahi/Ueda/Mizuguchi conference a little earlier. It was nothing really big, but pretty interesting if you like these creators and their vision of video games. The pitch was basically to debate about video games as a form of art.
Ueda and Mizoguchi introduced their games, but Chahi actually talked about his artistic influences and how he traveled a lot during the 2000s: crossing the Sahara, exploring freaking volcanoes... All of which inspired him to make From Dust.
They talked about their vision of games as a art, art itself, game development... Also the changing/changed relationship between devs and pubs: what you can/can't do (anymore) when working for a pub (concepts, genres, length, "value", things like that) and the resulting resurgence of indie games and studios Chahi's influence (they praised him HARD, he couldn't handle it lol), things like that. T
Funny bit: They were talking about how Ueda's games don't have a lot of dialogue, and as Ueda said he was influenced by Chahi's narration style in Another World and Heart of Darkness, Chahi replied that he initially only went this way because he was a really timid guy that had troubles express himself and couldn't write dialogue if his life depended on it (at the time) ahahah
They briefly mentioned the future, but only talking about very vague concepts. Nothing about games in dev now or even in the foreseeable future. Chahi said he was going back to the basics since he finished From Dust, doing things by himself and getting back into programming.
After the conference, there was a live by musician 2080 in the institute' brasserie. Mizuguchi came to check briefly (at least I think I saw him) but Ueda and Chahi stayed. Both were pretty cool and Chahi talked with a lot of people. Got a picture with the guy!
Basically, it was nothing news-worthy, but something any gamer who like these guys would have wanted to see IMO.
