You're all way off, so stop guessing. This is why we can't have nice things.
Won't be either of those things.
Anything from Google for the Wii U will likely be in the form of a lightweight web based background OS that can run in tandum with the full OS that Nintendo creates, which will allow you to pull up specific features from predetermined webhosts (like say, a Video website or a blog type site) at any point on your controller.

Nintendo used Opera for the Wii browser but I could see them partnering with Google to have a version of Chrome on WiiU.

Perhaps it has something to do with google maps and the new controller?
Would be pointless, as the controller is useless outside of your house.
I'll take this.
The Wii U will likely have a lot more active background things.
Think Spot Pass, but on steroids.
Not to impugn Shikamaru at all, but I don't think we share the same tastes. IIRC, he was pretty excited about Steel Diver, as well.
tadaaaaam
the guess is strong in this one
oh and basically a google employee just confirmed my info about the software layer/os features of wii u !
btw, i need to sleep, it's late here !

really?
I say YouTube, since Nintendo had that concept video in the E3 teaser.Perhaps it has something to do with google maps and the new controller?

They hired Denise something-or-other (Kegler I think?), but she left after about a year or so. Now they have some guy whose name I can't remember
for a new IP from nintendo it was soooo underwhelmingHey, I liked Steel Diver!!!it should have been a $10 digital title I admit.
I can't really speak for anyone, but for me a new IP from Nintendo was exciting in itself, especially if you weren't aware of the lack of content. Too bad it didn't pan our like mist wanted it too....
Since Ideaman likes to encourage people having ideas, I'll bite with a scenario.
From your Friend's List you can choose to contact either one person, a few people, or the whole group. You will have options to send a text, voice, or video message to the selected person(s) or to start a voice or video chat with the same selected person(s). This is done through the controller, though the main screen could be used as well. If this is done for a chat, on the sender's end it shows some type of pending or connecting message as it tries to connect and it could show beside each username attempting to be contacted. The sender will also be able to setup a "timeout" feature. If the attempted contact is not connected after a determined about of time, the sender then has the option to leave a voice or video message. The sender will also be allowed to "hang up" if they change their mind before the others pick up. If only a few in the contact group answer the call, the sender will have the option to record the session and send it as a message to the ones unable to respond at that time.
On the receiver side if they aren't on the console, when they get on they will see a message(s) has been left and they have the choice to listen/watch, save, delete, etc. If the person is on Wii U and surfing the Internet, playing with apps, playing a game, etc., a small portion of the controller screen and/or screen (I'll say top, but it would be customizable) will say incoming message or chat. If it is a message the receiver can choose to listen/watch at that time, save it for later, or delete. If it is a chat the receiver can either accept or reject the chat. If the receiver rejects the chat they will have the option to send a reason as to why they rejected or request a recording.
This was a spur of the moment thing so I tried to at least cover the gaps within this idea.
so it becomes a PS4My sources told me the Wii U comes with an ancient riddle master and if you pass his trials you unlock the secret processing core that gives you 4k resolutions at 60fps.
so it becomes a PS4
I wouldn't worry about the functionality of Wii U's OS or front-end. It'll be more full-featured then most people imagine.
I know I know but I remember Sony being the company going on about 4KHey hey now.. that machine might end-up being more modestly-specc'd than many originally thought.
Ugh, Denise Kegler was soooo boring and stuck to her PR scripts like a drone, her IGN Q&As were pointless. Cammie was bad for E3 but at least her interviews were interesting.
a casual & friendly video calls/conference, i'm sure a lot of people would like dat
me ? i'm always TOO comfortable when i play, i would only send video of a plushie rather than me wearing a pink pyjama

This was kind of a given considering you told us that the OS needs a lot of RAM. I'm still not getting exactly what kinds of features we might be getting though.
Wait, what?
I don't get the jump in logic, if anything they will use Opera on the Wii U
A lot of speculation about the OS, the Controller and the Ram but i feel the most important piece of hardware in Wii U will be the GPU.
It will truly dictate how the system holds up against Sony and Microsofts next console in the years to come, 512 MB's of less Ram would be ok for developers to work around but a GPU that is 500 teraFLOPs weaker than PS4/720 would not.
@Ideaman
Do you know how many teraFLOPs the Wii U GPU is ?, im not looking for an answer but it would be nice if you did know .
Im guessing the Wii U GPU will be 500 - 750 teraFLOPs in power (Xbox 360's is 250 for comparison).
I fear the PS4 / 720 will be 1200 - 1500 tho .
All this OS talk has gotten me excited. I was pleasantly surprised with the 3DS, but more like the Vita would be wonderful IMO.

In game video chat would be a KILLER feature if they pull it off. Especially if it streams 4 or so video feeds simultaneously.
We had just discovered that Nintendo may have a device which represents your Wii U in StreetPass (or was it SpotPass??) type situations. Why not just make it so that when you go to a retail store, you pay for a game, present the device to be scanned, then the retailer's computer basically sends a few packets to Nintendo's servers, enabling the immediate download of the game you just bought to your system if it's not actually depowered. That way, whether it's in sleep mode or being played by your little brother, the game you just bought will be sitting on your storage devi
for a new IP from nintendo it was soooo underwhelming
