Rebel Leader
THE POWER OF BUTTERSCOTCH BOTTOMS
looks smooth, not sure what the problems could have been
It may depend on the game.
For example, I can use the ps3's XMB easily in Battlefield 1943 and yet it lags in Batlefield 3.

Well...
DING DING DING
We already had reports of this causing problem with games. Running both apps has to take some power away from gaming. Its just common sense.
They have yet to really show why this is worth it. Seem half baked....
Well...
What app do you have snapped there?
Just checked my order on Amazon UK but nothing changed, and didn't recieve an update of any kind in the past month. What does the update say? Mine is still scheduled for day one deliveryDid anyone get an Amazon update today regarding day one arrival?
MetroTube.
Has the nicest UI out of all the Windows 8 YouTube apps I've tried imo.
Will be nice to use when that eventually comes to the XB1.
Oh lord. Yes, I heard that snap was causing problems. I'm still hearing that snap is causing problems. What i wrote about on my blog has nothing to do with snap.
Well...
Out of curiosity, did anyone state otherwise?Oh lord. Yes, I heard that snap was causing problems. I'm still hearing that snap is causing problems. What i wrote about on my blog has nothing to do with snap.
I found a pic of the man cave on my phone from when I first got the TVs mounted. Sorry it isnt a very good pic.
edit:I dont see how to upload the image.
If I include a link then it goes to everything in my skydrive account, which is not what I want.
I hope this works: http://www.flickr.com/photos/75565791@N04/10594115496/lightbox/
The setup in my living room is way better but I dont have a pic of that.
Will be nice to use when that eventually comes to the XB1.
I don't know why people listen to Thuway. When MS announced they were using 3 gigs of ram for the OS he was the first in that thread claiming that it definitively meant MS didn't care about games. Multimedia comes first. The proof being the memory. Then a few months later came the thread about Sony using 3.5. Guess who was there first telling everyone complaining to stop and that it was more than enough memory? Yep. I'm not saying his info is wrong. He's just not the guy to be delivering the news. He and Mort are self-professed Sony fans. So am I after all that's happened. But to see them report bad MS rumors with such glee is disgusting.
I'm utterly baffled as to why anyone would want this. To each their own, but some people act like this is revolutionary, game-changing stuff. I can't ever imagine using this - if I want to go to a website, I'll use the laptop sitting next to me. If I want to watch something, then I don't want to play a game. Maybe some of you can watch sports or a show while being engaged in a video game - I can't.
From the MS memory reserve thread:Really?
Well...
Do people finally believe the rumors or do they think we are all just making shit up to make the Xbox look weaker? It is a media machine first and foremost, and games player second.
Amazing. Absolutely breathtaking. This is some Beyond3D levels of ignorance here. Sony has went out of their way to please developers who were celebrating a faux-Christmas on February 20th. However, it isn't enough. Sony has to now please the armchair programmers on GAF because they know whats better for games than the creators themselves.
Let this list be a reminder.
Apologies, I was basing my comments off that tweet.
Can you expand on what you're hearing. Does it crash after prolonged use or are the crashes game specific.
I'm sure it's been said a million times, but I have seemed to miss it. Can you snap netflix/hulu/hbo go while playing a game?
From the MS memory reserve thread:
And in the thread about PS4 memory that got locked, he quoted a bunch of posts from people worried that reserving more memory than MS could be a problem:
Again, not saying his sources aren't legit. My problem is how incredibly disingenuous he is. So I personally take the snap rumors with a huge grain of salt. Especially given that even Cboat says it's perfectly possible that any current issues could be worked out by launch. In other words, just like every hardware release...ever.
Just checked my order on Amazon UK but nothing changed, and didn't recieve an update of any kind in the past month. What does the update say? Mine is still scheduled for day one delivery
Out of curiosity, did anyone state otherwise?
So, you've never paused your game to see the end of a sporting event?
Really?
Well I had gotten a PM from cboat which I was cheekily assuming that thuway did also. But i don't report cboat PM's as news because that's cboat's news. I still don't know if that's what thuway was doing or if he had a separate source.
Here is something a dev told me after MS put out that horseshit UI video the other day.
"Kinect's voice array also does not work as efficiently as that. Hell, my X1 doesn't auto-sign me into my profile half the time. The time it takes between taking a command, and executing it has ranged between 3 to 7 seconds, if it registers the voice command. Depending on what other apps you have running, that is. I've done it with just my game running and it can take awhile. I had snapped IE with Studio Upload recording, and it crashed the console."
And another, on a different game said
"Performance in general was awful, snapping was super slow and voice commands recognition was meh. Tools are the worst part though. I mean, installing builds through a command prompt..."
I report what I'm told when I can verify that the people telling me are who they say they are. If it's wrong... it's wrong. Nothing I can do about it. But I'm not on some anti-microsoft crusade.
Snap looks totally cool in this video. I think that's a good thing. I'm not rooting for MS's OS to be a mess. I want to get a xbox one (if/when kinect is dropped). I got the OG xbox and 360 at midnight launches, for fuck's sake. I'm not hating for the sake of hating.
Yes.
Albert Penello to me in a PM. He said everything was running great.
So, he PMed you exactly what he's been saying on the forum posts?
Hoo boy, that sounds dreadful. I guess they were lucky it demoed well in this video. Will be interesting to see if those issues are addressed at launch or not...
Yes, you can snap any app.
XboxOneDev said:Snapping can be done in two ways. One is via the controller by selecting the "Snap an app" button on the Home screen. This will show a list of apps that are snap capable. The other is via voice commands. "Xbox, snap X."
The majority of the apps that come at launch can be snapped, though not all. Some apps are by design only to run in snapped mode. As more apps will be developed in the future by third parties, they can choose whether an app can be snapped based on what kind of experience the app will provide. Game titles do not have the option be to snap enabled (shrunken to 1/4 size) even if the developer wants to.
What MajorNelson confirmed is that once you have an app snapped, it will by default have focus. You can then press the center button twice to switch focus back to your original app/game.
E.g You are playing a game. You say "Xbox snap Internet Explorer." Your controller is now controlling the browser and not the game. Tap the center button twice to switch back to the game.
Yes, you can snap any app.
Awesome feature! I can play games while my gf can watch her shows. Hopefully there is an option to switch audio...even better if it can output to headphones and main audio separately.
Very nice! When I'm eventually a home owner (renting atm) I'll make an area similar! For the record, whilst you can see everything on your skydrive when clicking the sharing link, I think others will only be able to navigate to your shared content. I always have the same paranoia when sharing from skydrive, so test with another browser which isn't logged in
I really hope the snap function works well out of the box. I'm optimistic. It takes up screen real estate but for certain games I wouldn't mind.
I do have two questions though.
1. Can you mess around with the size of snap app and choose whether it's on the left or right side?
2. Does the PS4 work like the Vita where I can press the PS button and have the web browser open and toggle between both the game and the browser?
Or you just say "Xbox, snap ....". It also didn't exactly help that the person using the controller in this video was mashing buttons all over the place. And it didn't seem like he had used snap before.Far, far too many button presses and menus.
There's just too much going on.
I don't like it at all.
1. No. But you can switch which app gets the smaller pane
2. Yes you can!

Im guessing they will be ironed out. I think if Microsoft thought they couldn't get things working in time they would just scratch them for launch (like sony did with suspend/resume) instead of having it be buggy and creating horrible word of mouth.
