I went ahead and ordered Ishin. I would love for them to bring out Kenzan and Ishin to the west on the PS4. Playing thru Kenzan now on PS3, the game totally holds up. The graphics are beautiful (for a 2008 game) and art direction as per all Yakuza games is spot on.

I think if people want to go the extra mile and support the series, they should also buy these games too, if they're not concerned about it being in Japanese. If Zero sells well like 100-200k and some of that translates like (5%) to Kenzan, Ishin sales, Sega will get quite a shock!

Here's for you:

Not my guides, but they are very good guides for Kenzan/Ishin/Zero. If you don't understand japanese, this will help.

The boat has sailed on Yakuza Kenzan and, probably, for Ishin too. By the time Y6 releases in the west, I expect the Yakuza team to be done with the next game (which, I think, it might be Yakuza 2 remake).

Instead of bringing an older release, I think Sega and Atlus will focus on making the wait for the western version shorter.

If, by a miracle, they do localize Ishin it's still a great game. Might not get as much notoriety as Yakuza 0 is having now, but it should at least move more units than Dead Souls lol

I can also vouch for how great these guides are. Got me through Ishin perfectly. Its not as good as playing through the game in English but seeing as the odds of Ishin getting released outside of Japan are low, its much better than not playing it at all! (plus there are some great cameos in the game, and the combat rocks!).

The R3 version won't be out for 2 more days and this one is selling for $62, so whatever. Anyway my sale contribute to the sales of the NA region which is the worrisome market for US so eat your hearts out, SEGA.

We discussed that earlier here but that sounds like it might have been my review but that issue doesn't seem to happen to everyone. Not at all sure what occurred but seems to work fine now. Could have been a server thing too. Not sure

Yeah i got recommended these guides in the Yakuza Community Thread (anyone who hasn't been there before, you're welcome to join us!). I've only flicked through the KHH guide, but its kinda amazing :) can't wait to get stuck into it. The game hasn't arrived for me yet, but I'll be playing Zero first anyway.

Shadowman16's plats have inspired me to play the games much more than just the story too.

As for Kenzan/Ishin localisation - I'm not totally giving up hope on an Ishin translation... we can at the very least make it a very difficult proposition for Sega if Zero sells well.

The wait for these games are insane, but Zero is finally here. Glad 6 is only a year away.

I think Yakuza 2 Kiwami is a sure thing too. It'll be great to get that then at least everything is in 'HD'.

This is the best version - I wish I picked that over my regular PAL version. Sega Europe really dropped the ball on that AND not having a preorder page on PSN.

Are you the ACG reviewer ? If so , your videos are always well done . Keep it up man !

This is cool to hear :) Seems like there are two trains of thought on the 100% completion on Yakuzas - either you enjoy it or its an insane task that should not be attempted. I personally find it really fun to squeeze out every inch of gameplay from each game - then again it helps that I really enjoy all the side stuff in the games so it never feels like a grind (well, except for a couple of bits in Ishin which were definitely just grinds for grinding sake!).

Good luck on 100%ing 0 though. Its got the "10 tournament wins" in the Cat Fighting mini game trophy to achieve, and that is for sure the worst trophy in the game (and one of the worst in the entire series in my opinion, I hated that mini game so much). Speaking of which, I wonder if (like Yakuza 5) 0 has a shared trophy list between EU and Japanese copies of the game - so any trophies I earned on the import version won't need to be earned again.

Question about abilities, there are ones that say 'apply to all battlestyles' , like health, but you still have to buy the same ability again in another battlestyle to access the further reaches of the ability tree?

Yeah, heat/health/attack upgrades should apply across the board from what I remember, but you'll still need to purchase them in the other styles as well in order to unlock further abilities for each style.

I definitely don't have time to 100% complete Yakuza 0. But I want to up my completion rate in Yakuza 0 for sure. Yakuza 5 I just did the main storyline and I think I missed out on a lot. Now that Yakuza 0 is back to a shorter main story length, I think its the perfect opportunity to do a bit more side content. Your posts have got me excited about all the stuff I've missed out on!

Yeah, that makes more sense! Its worth just giving all the mini games a try for sure, before Yakuza I had no idea how to play Mah Jong (but was always interested in the game). Thanks to this series I ended up loving Mah Jong, so much that I'm not terrible at it any more (I can actually win a few games of it, and make decent cash in Yakuza 6 with the mini game).
You really come to appreciate all the effort that goes into the mini games (well, most of them), they aren't just distractions that were quickly thrown together, especially over the last few sequels they keep adding more content and challenge modes to them - like the addictive challenge modes in bowling or billiards, the batting cages always have their challenges switched up in every game, the golf mini games in 3, 4 and Dead Souls I found more fun than some dedicated golf games, the UFO catcher crane game somehow has become a firm favourite in my arcade visits (sad to see if MIA in Yakuza 6) and its always cool to see which games get included in the arcades.

I'd legitimately purchase a collection of mini games based on the Yakuza series if they ever released it. Pity they never developed it for the Vita, it'd have been the perfect travel companion for me (Mah Jong, Darts, Sega Arcade games on the go in one need package!). The Ishin and 0 Japanese Vita companion apps came close to the sort of thing I was looking for, but something more polished would have been awesome.

Thanks.

I am struggling a bit with the evade dodge at the moment, the window for it is really tight, plus to can't evade break an opponents attacks once they've started, so it's a bit of a learning curve!

New to the series. Are the sidequests missable?

EDIT:

No, none can really be failed or missed. If you complete the game before finishing all the side stuff, just load up your game save in the Premium Adventure mode to pick up where you left off. Only 1-3 (and Kenzan if you import it) had missable side missions).

Cheers.

Can I get a Yakuza Supporter banner? I'd really appreciate it <3

EDIT:
Also does anyone know if you get items for playing the previous Yakuza games?

I played through chapter 3 now. Gotta say, the sidequests I've done so far were really good. I didn't expect them to have proper story but wow, some of them had good humor.

Hey bros, this is my first Yakuza game too, super hyped glad I preordered a month ago since it's out of stock on Amazon UK now.

Good to see that it seems to be selling well.

Any chance I can get my avatar with the Yakuza Supporter thing? Cheers

Should it worry anyone that Amazon UK haven't had the game available for at least the past day (I was going to get it with that £10 off 1-day offer yesterday). I hope there's not a scarcity of discs for weeks that could hurt sales. Also, it's not listed on UK PSN yet and I worry about the price. I'd maybe buy digital if it was £40 but guessing it'll be a £50 belter!

The reviews have got me hyped. Seems like the time I've been waiting for to get into these games, at last!

No preload in Europe, presumably this also affects traditionally PAL regions.

Some retailers in France have the game on shelves already, I was pleasantly surprised when visiting nearby Fnac store yesterday

Needless to say I got a copy...

as this is the first game on the ps4 for the west, no, if you have a save file from this one, it'll probably carry over to kiwami and 6 when they come out here

Thanks mate <3

So hyped for this game, GAF is a great place to be at times. Wouldn't even know what Yakuza is, nevermind have the game preordered without being here.

SEGA needs to thank YakuzaGAF for the amount of shilling going on around here lol.

Best thanks would of course be Ishin with english subs, you hear that SEGA? Atlus? Come on...

Saves your game then I think it saves the game options too. As to why, can't help sorry!
Ahhh ok, just thought it was bit odd.

So I've played through chapter 1, and some of chapter 2, and here's a few thoughts from a player new to the series.

It's definitely a slow burn, but the story parts are well written and acted, although over the top as per the norm when it comes to Japanese storytelling.

Kuze is an asshole, but he has cool hair and glasses, epic yakuza tats and a sick voice, so I'll let him off.

UFO crane machine is more fun and more compelling than it should ever be, I will get that mega megadrive plushy!.

Combat is nice, weighty and direct, but I do think that part shows its age slightly, and may put some people off, likewise the open world parts show the age of the game, the way some pedestrians will 'hang up' on your character while walking, or phase in and out of being.

Dancing is really really hard.

Kamurocho is extremely vibrant and good looking, overall the game looks great.

Really enjoying it so far, can't wait to get deeper into the story and see how that pans out.

I'm on chapter 5 and so far I'm pretty sure I've done all the side missions, and I'm still loving this game to death. Majima's story starts off a little slow when compared to Kiryu's, but it slowly became my favourite part of the game- it gets surprisingly deep the more you play. Also the cult sidequest as Majima is the best and funniest sidequest in the game, can't wait for people to start doing it.

Ah yes, the cult side quest. That was a good one, Yakuza 6 has a similar quest in it, but not quite as entertaining.

Oh, and just a heads up for new players - the games do start slow yes, but I can't wait to see reactions for the later chapters (the second half of the game basically) as things kick up to an insane pace when the game gets close to ending. The last few chapters of any Yakuza game usually guarantees tons of epic moments, boss battles and huge brawls and 0 definitely delivers on that promise!

Mine was delivered early, great opening so far. I mean its a yakuza game so its going to be amazing, but its really cool having a different setting.

I was surprised that I got some bonus items for having data from a previous yakuza game when I played it on my Japanese PSN account, since I have the historical yakuza that I bought from PSN on that account (Kenzan?). Unless it picked up cloud saves from PS3 games or something? This was with a European physical version of Yakuza 0.
