Blizzard hosting Gamescom press conference on August 5th

I don't think they will announce the new WoW expansion at Gamescon, I do hope its better than WoD. Like many others I found it the worst expansion, I liked Cataclysm a bit more.

I'm actually starting to believe it could be a WoW expansion. Although there is no precedence for anything WoW-related being announced outside of Blizzcon, the timing just makes sense for the current state of the game. Warlords is essentially over, and if they do not announce the next expansion until Blizzcon, then it seems incredibly unlikely for it to be released in anything close to the time frame Blizzard or the players want. We would end up with yet another 12+ month plus content drought. This would mean that Warlords had a longer period of time with no new content than it did while content was being released.

Blizzard hopefully realizes that it would be catastrophic for the future of the game for them to let the scenario play out, so I could really see them breaking tradition and announcing the expansion at Gamescom and ideally getting the beta going before the end of the year, potentially shortly after Blizzcon.

They noted that they have alternating dev teams for expansion packs now, so while they didn't quite make the one year schedule, I'm still expecting it rather early next year.

I hope they get the beta rolling before then. Their beta cycles are usually 5-6 months long, if they wait until Blizzcon to start then the expansion would be in April-May next year. That's almost a year in HFC, the exact thing they have been saying they want to avoid.

They could, obviously, skimp on the beta. But I think the playerbase will be very unhappy if the game is unpolished at launch or if they put out another $50 expansion that lacks content post-leveling.

Blizzard getting the next expansion out before late spring of next year is entirely unbelievable to me at this point, but I would love to be proved wrong. I'm sure they are planning to get it out by early 2016, but what initially Blizzard plans and what actually happens are almost never the same when it comes to release dates.

And yeah, curious to see the price point. I imagine at this point $50 is the new normal regardless of specific content or value-add gimmicks like a level boost, but who knows. After WoD having the worst price/content ratio in the history of the game, I am sure Blizzard knows that another $50 xpac means there are a lot of people who will at the very least wait until they can snag the expac for half off a couple months after release.

I would love for it to be a warcraft thing that is NOT a MMO. The time of the MMO is done they will always have 40% of the MMO market because those people are monogamers. Could well be their next expansion but I hope it is something else. Done with MMOs.

They have another Warcraft project in development judging from their job postings, and I don't think it's an RTS or an MMO given that it's neither Team 1 nor Team 2, but I don't expect that until like Blizzcon 2016 given they've only had four positions on a small team so far posted and none of them are open anymore.

It will be interesting to see what their next WoW expansion is, but WoD is the first expansion that I didn't even bother getting to level cap. The entire concept of the story was awful from the moment the announced it, and it felt like another stop gap in the overall story. What I wouldn't give for a reboot of WoW. I love the game so much, but it really feels like it has run its course, and I feel like it has been having some major feature bloat.

I would only be excited by a major expansion that actually progresses the story, or a complete reboot of the whole thing with an all new combat system. The last time I was truly excited about WoW was with Cataclysm in 2010, and even that excitement died rather quickly.

They mentioned like two years ago having a small team working on retrofitting a version of Warcraft 2 that would work on modern PCs/resolutions, but nothing ever happened with that and it makes me sad.

War2 music is the best.

Well, they're conceptually almost out of the lore that they've referenced in the RTS games.

If the next expansion pack is Azshara, then they're essentially 100% out since at that point you've fought the dragon aspects, the burning legion, the titans, the lich king, the illidari, the old gods, and then the naga which will presumably have to end with Sargeras given their track record of patch bosses. They also went back in time and covered the pre-Warcraft 1 era (and cover the old night elf early era pretty extensively as it is) and even added Pandaria.

Since these were set up as pretty much the end of the road villain wise, I'm not sure what they intend to come up with next. They even had an expansion that was heavily about the horde and alliance fighting each other (and themselves) and I'm not sure how many more times they intend to go to that well.

Presumably something new is going to have to be invented in a post Freiza Dragonball-esque fashion.

WoW on consoles confirmed!

I BELIEVE!

A Diablo 3 expansion announcement is more likely to be at Blizzcon, unless it's coming out in late 2015/early 2016 (unlikely.) The only announcements that make sense to do at this event are for things that are happening in that window.

They should probably make a modern version of war3, people still play that game quite a bit and it's a quite unique RTS. There were updated models of war3 added to SC2, they were probably doing something with it at some point. Maybe canceled now.

Why just 2 or 3? A warcraft 1, 2 & 3 + expansions HD collection/remaster would be love worthy.

I would love to see a remake of the Warcraft trilogy using the SC2 engine but I don't think Blizzard will be ever developing a Warcraft RTS game again. The closer thing we'll ever get to a remake is the fan made WC3 mod that's coming out for SC2

Yeah, re-building war1-3 in the SC2 engine would be pretty cool, and make sense in light of the movie coming out next year.

Damn didn't even think about the possibility of a new D3 expansion, that would convince all the current gen console players to pay them again... plus it would satiate my need for more Diablo.... how would they handle Paragon levels and Rifts though with a new expansion?

Don't like this. Reduces the Blizzcon hype.

Overwatch on PS4/XBO plz.
Hearthstone on Vita plz.

wouldnt expect anything huge though. only an hour and they use blizzcon for the big reveals.

Hearthstone on Vita would be the biggest waste of resources I can imagine. Hell, I don't even think it's worth them putting it on the PS4/X1.

I don't see them announcing much before Blizzcon. I'm sure there will be some Hearthstone cards, some HotS and Overwatch heroes and a beta date if it's coming before Blizzcon. There are some new Starcraft features that were recently talked about at a community summit a couple of weeks ago so it seems likely they will be announced here. Not sure for WoW though maybe some talk about features that are coming soon like a new transmog UI.

Could be that there will be a major announcement at Gamescom, and another one at Blizzcon; maybe:

GamesCom - New WoW expansion (90% chance IMO)
BlizzCon - New Diablo expansion (20% chance IMO)

I also fully expect that at some point before the Warcraft movie comes out, we will see a HD remaster of Warcraft I-III.

Hearthstone is very unlikely to come to consoles given they use a shared card collection and Microsoft/Sony are notably opposed to that kind of thing, especially if both are involved.

If they're inviting the wow fansites, that tells me expac announce, which means that Diablo expac announce will probably (hopefully?) be the big star at blizzcon this year.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the announcement of a new WoW Expansion at Gamescon (Due to the accelerated timetable they have set for content) and then at Blizzcon you get the hands on treatment to reward the Blizzard loyalists.

The rest of Gamescon would be Hearthstone expansion, Overwatch, SC2 Legacy of the Void.

Course I wish it was another Diablo expansion. :)

That and the fact it's updated (usually) more than once a week. Impossible to do that on consoles right now.

I hope god hear you my friend

D3 expansion is the least likely scenario, as it has a huge patch in the works as is and is not going to have a Gamescom presence.

MMO Champ reporting that the WoW PTR came up and was on version 7.0.

It's the next WoW expansion.

You might want to dig a little deeper in those threads, that's been debunked. Anyone with the know-how can alter some files and have the PTR client read 7.0 (or whatever other number they want.)

I'm not sure how magic plays with a controller but Hearthstone needs a lot of pointing to play, I like to see someone trying to play patron warrior with a controller before rope.
