New World of Warcraft Expansion reveal confirmed for Gamescom

Please be good. Draenor was just so average, sure lovely revamp to areas and the look of characters, but I felt there was nothing below the surface.

When was the last expansion release? Now I feel that they have a expansion every year.
I stop playing at Cataclysm

Awesome. I'm looking forward to this with great excitement.

Color me surprised, release date at Blizzcon then?

Also, let "The Dark Prophet" be the real deal.
The Dark Prophet has been confirmed fake. Someone just created a hoax.

Edit: Sorry, I was mistaken. The "Council of Glades" was proven fake, The Dark Prophet I don't know if it has been debunked.

I'm part of the large group of people that came back for WoD and then swiftly left again. I don't know if they can win me back again, espcially when I'm enjoying FFXIV now.

Interesting its been 6 years since I played. Wonder what they can summon this time.

If I have learnt one thing is never to underestimate Blizzard.

I'm pretty sure Blizzard had said recently that they're switching to a (roughly) one-expansion-per-year business model from now on, so this doesn't surprise me at all.

I remember reading that Blizzard were now setup for more frequent expansions just before WoD, guess they weren't kidding.

It better not be about Orcs again and for god sakes get us off Dreanor and Azeroth. Playable Naga and a South Seas expansion is what I want.

When WoD came out people LOVED it.

That love went south pretty quick.

Part of the problem is Blizzard is trying to make the player feel like the greatest thing ever, the Iron Horde? It's a joke to make you feel like a HERO.

I stopped playing Wow after Wotlk.
I think the golden years of Wow were the Classic and BC.
Now every expansion feels the same.

Draenor hasn't even been out a year yet and they've had 2 major content patches (well..'1' if you ask the WoW playerbase)

People complain when it takes them to long to release an expansion, then they complain when they try to get them out faster... Blizzard literally can't win.

Isn't this pretty similar to EverQuest for a while? xpac per year, shorter content cycles?

I'll admit, I'm not a current WoW player (FFXIV is my vice now), but I know many of my WoW-playing friends are ready for Draenor to be done already, so it's a GREAT thing they're getting content out faster.

Unfortunately, that's at the cost of 50-bucks-per-year expansions, which sounds like a "Milk it fast before it dies!!" tactic. Maybe I'm wrong though.

I was kind of hoping they'd go back on their "more content = more expansions" thing, but nope.

I didn't come back for WoD and they're definitely not going to win me back with yearly $49 expansions.

WoD sucked. God, I never thought I missed MoP until WoD sucked out all the fun and went through class design with a chainsaw.

fuck garrisons.

I don't think anyone would mind a longer expansion cycle if they actually got the new expansion without the 8 month drought.

November last year IIRC

December was when WoD came out, about a year after the last patch for Mists.

I feel that they are releasing the expansions so soon to keep the game alive.
I remember between Bc and wlk and wlk and cata there were a lot of patches opening new dungeons and raids.
But like I said I have not play the game in a lot of time so I really don't know how the game is now.

Blizzard can fuck right off releasing an expansion when WoD essentially had one whole content patch while at the same time being the most expensive one to date. All the cut content (faction cities, Shattrath, Faralon, Cho'gall) despite having a team that's bigger than it ever has before.

I don't PVP but that scene just got obliterated with WoD too. Someone who does can write you entire paragraphs as to why it's a shitshow now.

"If you ask the WoW playerbase"? 6.2 came out that had a content patch. 6.1 added twitter integration and a camera your character could take Selfies with. That is, quite literally, IT in terms of content.

This "new" expansion almost has to be free, or close to it, to make up for giving a playerbase one new content patch over more than a year(even if the release date was announced at blizzcon, they probably won't start the beta til then, so figure 3-4 months after that just for release...).

Patches = free content. Expansions = paid content.

Therefore, raising the number of expansions while decreasing the amount of patches = ?????????

I just want my Azshara/South Seas expansion ( .__.)

Crazy how long the grind was in WoD when looking back now.
The expansion was released in Nov, but it felt like I was playing the same contents for 4-5months.

I hope the next expansion will be better with no garrison non-sense.
The gimmick was so soul draining and hollow.

My thoughts exactly.

I do feel llike I got my money out of WoD though. Played a few months, got a few toons to 100 and eventually quit from OG (Over Garrisoning).

They need to ease up on the timed professions and quests though. Which is probably why we'll see more of it.

A 'free' expansion would be unprecedented for blizzard and they're not going to give away potentially 5-7m in boxed copy sales at any price point.

they DID really quickly dump Draenor though. I said that comment because most people would see 6.2 and assume there have been two major patches..but 6.1 really was a joke of a patch and should've been a minor bump. It was wrong of Blizz to market 6.1 as such a big thing.
