Halo 5 Opening Cinematic

Well, these aren't "real elite's". The coventant hierarchy has broken down completely, and with it, the training regime... This is a fringe group.

That's said, these elites are being attacked in 3 different directions, an orbital bombardment, arbiter forces, and a Spartan infiltration team... Perhaps they are being cut through because they are completely disoriented...

That's the problem with most hype trailers. They show your character doing far more than what you'll actually be able to do. Like taking down enemies with 2 assault rifle bullets when the actual in-game enemy will take a full clip.

This needs to be a thread, bad ass trailers showing you doing bad ass things, but once you play the game, all you can do is shoot and punch. You don't move that gracefully either (this is a problem with all FPS trailers, not just halo)

Well to be fair, the jump stomp is doable, running through walls and objects is doable, most of what i saw there is doable in some way in the game.

Well we could already see it in the Halo 4 intro cinematic that 343i wants to show the capabilities of the Spartans more. When engaging the Brute he's quite agile for example.

The book lore is vastly important and isn't going away. Halo 5 will be a marriage of both game and EU lore. It's going to be pretty slick.
 
Looks like they watched a lot of the opening sequence of Star Wars episode 3 while creating this.
Loving the organized chaos and single shot style.

I do agree with you tbh. I think it's just a difference of mediums. In the books you hear their internal monologues and as such you get the insight into their assessments of the situation as it happens whereas it's difficult, if not impossible, to convey that in a 'movie' scene.

And they run around way too much. MC was a slow, heavy, plodding war machine - these guys look like they are playing titanfall. Not sure.

After the Spartan II program, came the Spartan III's. So, Prior to the events of Reach, ONI has had figured out how to enhance children with less than perfect DNA... Shortly after the events of Halo3, they figured out how to enhance willing adults... Lore wise this is nothing new... In fact, halo 4 was littered with Spartan IVs.

Also, MC was never just a slow plodding war machine... When working in a group, he and his team were always quick and lethal... However, when we played as him in the games, he was alone, so he needed to adjust his strategy avvordingly.
 
Pretty cool, nice flow to the action and I can actually see what's going on. Music good too. Nit pick, too casual with the helmet on just before and wouldn't you be ready set up before you jump and concentrating on not dying on your way down. Nit picking.

So we hate the Avengers movies now?

Sounds more like a compliment to me lol.

Its a videogame sci-fi action game with overpowered soldiers, and thats all its important to know to accept that this trailer was awesome! Just enjoy the damn thing and let the hype flow in your veins!

The Halo lore is awesome, but its still a fiction, so things doesnt need to be 100% accurate all the time. And thats not even saying the action in the trailer wasn't accurate, cause its clear thats debatable.

And the use of their Mjolnir armor's thrusters when we see a unit of Spartan IIs drop into a battle, not unlike what we see in this opening cinematic for Halo 5. The Master Chief uses his thrusters during subsequent cinematics in similar ways.

Feels like 343i wanted to go in this direction from the offset. Maybe the concept was proposed too late in Halo 4's development, or perhaps it was seen as too risky of a gameplay change for their first product.

That's a strange takeaway. Halo has been about these man machines that can stand up to large number of enemies, that is what Spartans do. Halo 5 Guardians has us looking at a new group of Spartans and this acts as a nice intro to them and cutting right into the game play for the level.

Stinkles has also already said there is another cinematic scene preceding this (probably related to MC) that we are not seeing.

It sets up the drop and attack on covenant forces to rescue someone important.

I'm pretty sure 343 is going to show a great dichotomy between these two teams, their actions, their language, and their overall tone. I don't expect blue team to act in any way, shape, or form like Osiris.
 
Can we play as any of these Spartans or does it have to be Locke?

I want to play as Buck, or the female Spartan that looks like Femshep. Actually it's funny I mention that because I do know that the voice of female Shepard plays Palmer (Jennifer Hale).

It's not that we don't like the Avengers (at least not me, I love those movies). It doesn't really scream "Halo" to me though.

That's what I thought too.

Make it an on rails intro in first person that you can aim and shoot while switching your perspective between the team members. Cut back the scale a little to do it in real time. Would have been awesome!
 
I get that the acrobatics and overall speed are different from what we've been accustomed to with Halo games, but let's not pretend that it hasn't always been Spartans as one-man armies overcoming ridiculous odds and taking on huge numbers of enemies because that's been true from the beginning.

This intro reminds me of what Bungie teased in halo 2/3. Finally...the realization is here

And to think this cuts straight into gameplay. It's gonna be gooooooood.
