Halo 5 Opening Cinematic

I really hope the Skirmishers make a return. I wouldn't even mind the Drones, so long as there's a comfortable balance between them, and they're all working in cohesion.

Do you really want to be matchmade with people for co-op?

do you really?

I'd stick to your friends or gaf for that

I really do! Most of my friends dont play console games, and the ones playing doesnt match the free time with mine, or sticks with Fifa and GTA.

I dont see much problem with playing the campaing matchmaking though!

Also it was impossible to coop with gaf before. Most live across the ocean. With dedicated server it may be possible now.

I don't think so, though I think they splintered away from the Elites mostly.

Most Skirmishers were apparently wiped out but I'd like to see them also. More enemy variety is always a good thing IMO.

As long as they have new mechanics and play closer to what they were in Halo 2 (Berzerker Mode & all that), then I'll be down with shooting some dirty apes in Halo 5.

To explain myself further, Halo 4's story was bookended with the idea that Master Chief thinks there is a difference between humanity and being a soldier. This all culminates with Cortana's death and Chief dealing with that loss. In Halo 5 ViDocs, they've said that the story of Master Chief is going to involve coping with that loss and continue the story of Master Chief becoming more human. The thing that helps drive this is the chance of loss. For as poorly done as I think Halo 4's story was, the one thing that they emphasized through almost every character was that they might not make it out alive. Cortana, Lasky, Chief, Admiral Throwaway, and the Spartan Ops cutscene squad all had points where the player didn't know if they were going to make it. To me, it's important to drive your theme through other characters to show that it's not just the player who can feel that. When I watch this cutscene I never get the sense that these characters won't make it. So why should I care about these guys if they are basically Superman now?

I'm pretty sure 343 is going to show a great dichotomy between these two teams, their actions, their language, and their overall tone. I don't expect blue team to act in any way, shape, or form like Osiris.
You want to run parallels between these two groups, especially for the hunter/hunted style of story. The parallels are going to help the player relate the two groups to themselves and to the bigger picture. The overall picture according to 343's ViDocs is finding your humanity. Showing Spartans from Krypton doesn't do that.

Drone Captains were awesome in ODST i'd love to see a return.

As I posted in the other thread. It seems they have gone back on their Palmer design as this is what she looked like at SDCC before Halo 4's release.

In Halo 4 her hair was reddish-brown and her skin was lighter. In pre-release Halo 4 and in Halo 5 her hair is black and her skin is tanner.

A little annoyed at the ending... straight into the pre-order screen kind of took me out of it.

That being said... Such a sick opener. So pumped for this game

I watched it but I hate when companies release the opening. That's usually one of the coolest cinematics and one most people will see the most. Why spoil that ahead of time? Ugh.

Matchmaking and GAF is the same for me.

Watched it again...

Gave me chills. That music and sound effects are ACE!!!

Hey even Spartans need vacations and a dye job once in awhile.

Yeah she looks darker and not like her but its her, her brown hair is black and her skin is brown instead of white, quite confusing if it wasnt for her armor marks it would be another female spartan for me since I am not quite bonded with her english voice

Yes, yes I do.

It was one of the main reasons I didnt buy Destiny. That and the shit PvP.

Matchmaking for Co-op is more often than not a terrible experience. I play Destiny and everything but story, the nightfall, and the raid is matchmade and its almost always pointless. Nothing quite like getting into a strike and having 2 guys AFK just to get the EXP, or people who have never played a console shooter before.

Matchmaking in Halo for co-op is something that I can continue to live without, especially since its super easy to find competent and chill people to play with on GAF. I find it way more fun to play co-op with guys who are just as into the story and Halo universe as I am.

Drool-worthy like nothing else and extremely awesome in every way! and now I want a third-person Halo game looking and playing like this, gah!

In Destiny may exist the problem of someone AFK to gain exp, but thats not something Halo has to deal with. Also, there may be an option to the main player (or voting) to kick the guy is not cooperating.

And even an average or bad player can do better things than AI sometimes. In a team of 4, most certainly someone will play decently enough.

Also options...

Ill never understand the stubbornness of arguing against having the option to do something. Never.

Women get tanned and dye their hair? Impossible.

For Destiny they need an afk timer or a vote to kick option. For halo just don't use it don't take away options from other people it makes no sense.

Why not quit and search again instead of sitting in the game with 2 people afk?

What about those people who don't use forums, to group with others, and play co-op when they have a ~30 minute chance? They dont matter and this option to have match-making for co-op is absurd! Blasphemy! Toooo the gallows!! lol

This opening cinematic is CG-ish right? Have we seen any in game footage yet?

Yes there's is plenty in game footage.
Search "Halo 5 60 fps gameplay" on YouTube, and you will find some great gameplay (a little bit of campaing, most from MP, and theres also a 1 hour warzone video).

Sure, but to someone who's familiar with only the games (which should be the most important and defining pieces of Halo fiction),

LOL.......NO. Not at all. 10+ books disagree completely.

I was hoping he'd show beat her down if she went for Halsey. She'd lose though it's not a fair fight.

Halo 4 gave me the feeling that most of the new Spartans think they are better than the old... It's bound to happen... Blue Team vs. Fireteam Osiris

@1:57 Tanaka Falcon Headbutts aka Spartan Charge straight through a banshee and we can see her shields activate. We never get a good look at the elites' energy shield tho :(. (nvm, yes we do. when vale kicks one in the head. cool)

Tanaka seems to enjoy a brute force approach as she later charges straight through a boulder too.

At least i have the option, right destiny?

A+ for this post and reference. I appreciate the choice. People act like if co-op matchmaking existed then suddenly they're not allowed to play with people from gaf.

Do whatever you want. Let me suffer with randoms if that is my choice.

I can't stand this line of thinking? Why not have options? I still keep it touch with people I only know from playing Halo2 online... Matchmaking is a great way to find people to play with online...

And you don't have to coordinate with friends or a GAF account to get the most out of your game...

I've played co-op with matchmaking before. Works some times, doesn't work others. Just like in PvP. I would much rather sit my ass down and hit matchmake, than get on GAF and find someone who is wanting to play at the same time.

Wouldn't expect that from an active Spartan, especially not one who technically leads them. :p

Honestly, the discrepancies you guys are pointing out could very well be due to lighting conditions; even Laskey looked a lot different from certain angles.
