Developer explains FFXV's "pre-beta" state: Playable start to finish, half polished

Square Enix delayed Deus Ex: Mankind Divided to August, right? I think they'd release FF15 later so as not to cannibalize their own sales. I'm going to guess October or November... maybe even December...

I think March is too soon to announce a December release date. September seens more likely.

Now why the fuck would they want to make us wait any longer, move aside Deus ex.

Thinking about it tho..when exactly is a good time to release this thing.

They have deus ex,hitman,kh 2.8,star ocean 5, setsuna, world of final fantasy.

Now add stuff not announced for the west- dragon quest heroes 2, DQ builders, dqxi(possibly)

Where the heck do they fit all this without hurting each one

In what state is a game generally considered in beta then? Shouldn't be too far off then. Maybe even a fall release?

Yeah, they got too much stuff to release next year. My predictions:

April - Setsuna
May - Worlds of Final Fantasy
June - Star Ocean 5
August - Deus Ex
September/October - FF XV
November/December - KH 2.8

Talking about West btw.

This actually works pretty well. Im sure Japan will be more of a clusterfuck. But god i dont want kh 2.8 so far away

So 2020? Maybe 2025? PS7 launch title?

And there's also Nier Automata (even if I can see this releasing early 2017, just like SEGA did with Bayonetta).

Exactly.

Although I'm not afraid to say I enjoyed FFXIII and definitely liked my one free month of XIV, I haven't had that old feeling of pure bliss and excitement with a FF since FFX.
Get this, though- I don't put the full blame of that on Square-Enix. I put equal blame on myself. I've changed. My life is different. My tastes have changed.
I just don't have the childlike wonder for the series anymore that I had when I was 12 when I first played FFII (IV). I'm not in that confusing, angsty period of my mid/late teens like I was when I got really into FFIII (VI) and FFVII or the absolute bliss of breaking out of my shell and getting into my first serious relationship right around the time of FFVIII.

Now I just want a fun game. That's how I felt with XIII. If I was so completely wrapped up in it being a 'good FF', sure, I'd probably look at it with disdain like many around here do. I got it, I enjoyed it, and that was enough for me. I felt it was worth my time (which is limited now) and my money. That's really where I am with FF, or any game, at this stage of my life. If FFXV comes out, entertains me, and doesn't make me want to put the controller through the wall, it's a success. If it happens to emotionally move me and truly inspire me, that's a huge bonus.
Does a part of me yearn for a new FF experience that just makes my jaw drop, my eyes water, and my soul to 'de-age' even for a brief period of time? Absolutely, but I'm not going to hold that over the very talented, creative people working their asses off on new FF projects.

I just want an enjoyable experience these days.

#depressing-old-guy ;)

Bruh, your post perfectly describes my thoughts, too. I'm not expecting any FF to ever have the same emotional impact as when I was a kid. I still love hyping and waiting for the next mainline FF, it's like a life-long tradition for me at this point. I've never not enjoyed a FF. Sure, the FFXIII-saga will not be remembered as one of the highlights, we can all agree on that, but I still found something to enjoy in them. Had a blast with LR and think it's the best battle-system in the series. I could see something similar in FFVIIR, to be honest.

Never have I thought I want the next FF to be like the one before. I was stoked to see what they would come up with every time. That's what made FF so special. You never knew starting with FFVII. From Steampunk-Eco-Terrorism-Ancient-Alien and Sci-Fi-Fantasy-High-School-Time-Compression-Witches to Medieval-Knights-Fairytale-Clones and East-Asian-Underwater-Soccer-Pilgrimage. This unpredictability is rare especially in modern AAA and this is why I want FF to survive and thrive again. FFXV continues this mentality with its unusual clash of reality and fantasy and it's completely new battle-system. It still feels 100% FF to me, in every way.

"Next we plan on milking our 3D asset library for 2 additional FFXV titles with worse plot, featuring more DLC than you can shake a stick at, and some Lightning skins."

It's coming in November.

Source: My gut tells me Mass Effect: Andromeda is also coming in November, and fate is conspiring to make my two most anticipated games of the generation duel for my time.

My faith for this game has been rising steadily since development relaunched on this thing.

I really hope they get around to implementing a controllable airship in some capacity! Everything else looks glorious on this thing (cheesy bro stuff aside).

Forget whatever you thought about Versus.

FFXV is not that game. It may share some characters and some basic plot outline. The FF Versus that was announced back in 2006 is not the Final Fantasy XV that started development in 2012.

Sorry if it seems I'm singling you out in specifically, but it gets tiring hearing the same old 10 year dev cycle statement when this has never been the case factoring staff being shifted around to fix the disaster that was the launch of FF14 turning it into A Realm Reborn, and crew to the FFXIII trilogy to fill in the gaps when staff was in demand.

In short this game is not merely a title swap, In fact significant portions of the staff comprised of Versus is completely different then XV.

Doesn't really change the fact that people have been waiting 10 years to play a game featuring these characters and story.

Stop asking for airships.

I guess I should realistically stop expecting it. It pumped me up since Nomura said they were in way back when, and then Tabata said it was something that they may or may not get.

But I will always be asking for the return of a controllable airship in a FF game. One day, they will return.

Then they'll be waiting even longer.

Because the story is different, the characters have been changed.

Finally after years upon years we'll soon be able to focus on FFXVI! I know absolutely nothing about that game, but already can't wait for it to start being talked about. And I might need PTSD therapy just to get rid of the damage the last decade of VsXIII/XV talk has created.

The thing with the airship it has to be integrated into the story and I get the feel that the airship will be added maybe not day 1 but it's practically another car to get from point A to B quicker. I really don't care much for it unless it's story related. So if you want the airship to navigate quickly I'm sure you will be happy but Otherwise you might dissapointed.

Of course theyre not going to mention that a sequel might me made. When does that happen? Shit, COD, AssCreed, all of those series we know with 100% certainty that sequels will come of them yet try to ask them about the sequel to the current game while they're still actively promoting their currently unreleased game and you'll get nothing.

the odds of a FFXV2 are probably 100% given how much they bled money producing FFXV. And, frankly, I dont blame them for it.

If the sequel was even possible they wouldn't had butchered the original story that was meant to have sequels. At best this generation we are getting XV and 7r.. Maybeeee XVI at the end of the gen being a cross gen title, plus XIIHD.

they might have just changed the story since the whole game went a new direction with Nomura or for other reasons. Doesn't mean the current story can't lend itself to sequels.

I didnt see how they could make a sequel to FFX but it happened. Nothing that happens in FFXV can't be written around if they want to make more of them.

In regards to production, SE pretty much let other studios handle the FFXIII sequels, did they not? I recall Tri Ace playing a major role in regards to FFXIII-3 but i dont remember if they also helped to produce FFXIII-2 as well.

The Luminous Engine at least imo is one and done it's currently the only game using it and the funny thing it's still being worked upon alongside the game .. I could be wrong but I'm not expecting a sequel to this game, unless reviews and sales are insane which I doubt.

The car already serves that purpose, plus I'm excited about there being some type of boat present. That should be quite a view.
actually I think at some point in the story the car will get destroyed. This was my first thought while I was reading the car is some kind of Regis's representation. That would be a good point introduce an airship.
