PlayStation 6 Release Locked for 2027, “Not Just on the Table, It’s the Plan,” Says Kepler2 Following Sony and AMD’s Project Amethyst Showcase

PS5 will still be supported long into the PS6 lifecycle so you won't need a 6 for a while anyway. Personally, I sold my PS5 and stuck with Xbox this gen. When PS6 launches I'll probably get one on launch and commit to PS going forward. Sadly.
 
The PS5 never really surpassed Demon's Souls remake presentation wise.
Cross gen games are still releasing.
The PS5 Pro was a litmus test for fleecing.
PS6 ~2 years away.

Gaming's cooked.
 
It will take a lot to get me on board. But if they release a balanced, small, cheap console then I'll consider it.

If they're still going to chase POWER and end up with a $599+ console I don't really care. I'll just stick with PC.

Make something small, cheap, with modern tech and good ai features to compensate and I'll be there. Games scale well now, FSR5 will probably exist by then, we don't need 70 CU's and a high price tag in the age of ai upscaling and diminishing returns.

Yes there is if there is new tech and architectures that can give improved performance at a similar cost. PS5 will keep being supported for a long, long time anyway so don't worry about that.
 
Not sure I'm ready to move on so soon, the PS5 is the best generation of any console ever, lots of monumental games like Concord and Horizon 2 , plus we still have Marathon and Fairgame$ to look forward to and maybe even Intergalactic and Gummy bears if they aren't delayed.
 
Yeah, I wouldnt advise anyone buys a PS5 pro now. I suppose if you could get some good deal on it and its the only place you plan to play games.

I would be surprised if the PS5 pro is anywhere close to as successful as the PS4 pro.
 
Well, it's normal, a 7-year-old generation, by the time it comes out my PS5 will have paid off, and there are still so many good games yet to come out.

I'm confident that PS6 will almost certainly be the console PS5 should've been.

From a visual standpoint, Cerny is already talking up path tracing in his latest video. If they can actually deliver that, then it's almost certainly going to be a true generational leap. Forget this ray-tracing BS on console right now, where at best you get one or two effects (which are usually the shitty ones you barely notice - like RT shadows or RT reflections). Cyberpunk 2077 shows us how radically path traced global illumination can transform visuals and should be the benchmark for 2027 games. My 4070 Super could already do it well since last year.

As far as games go, this gen was seriously harmed by the pursuit of live service and the collapse of Sony's middle market. I think following all those GaaS cancellations and the Concord bomba, they've learned their lesson. On PS6, studios like Bend and Bluepoint should finally get back to the single player games they're known for. The success of Astro Bot has also seems to have lit a fire under them that people want more games of that scope which don't take 5+ years to make.

Don't forget other factors like no Wu-flu related delays this time and Unreal Engine 5 finally reaching an acceptable standard with the latest versions (hardware acceleration, performance improvements, open world readiness).

This is what I'm thinking. If Sony is going a low power efficient design, i don't see it being massively more powerful than ps5 pro and probably relying on scaling to drive a higher quality image.

I think ps5 pro might last the gen in that case.
 
That's way earlier than I anticipated, I thought 2028 at the earliest but was kinda expecting 2029.

Ngl, kinda happy I decided to skip PS5 Pro (partly because my TV lacks VRR and can only do 120hz at 1080p which negates some Pro benefits, but mostly because it's over double the price I payed in SEK for my launch PS5).

I kinda expect having to pay a lot for the PS6 but it's easier to justify when the hardware inside will be substantially better than the regular PS5.

Edit: Unlike most I think this gen has been mostly great. Sure, they completely shat the bed with the GaaS stuff outside of Helldivers 2, but I cannot overstate how pleased I am with GT7 vs GT Sport, being able to actually keep controller vibration on because it's soo much better than the old rumble, all first party releases being 60fps and the whole OS experience being "snappy" unlike earlier.
People don't consider large parts of the 1st party output "legit" because of it being crossgen and thus don't count them as part of this gen.
Meanwhile I remember GT6 and God of War 2 launching on the previous gen console only. That was fucking bullshit, I tell you.

Edit2: And loading times becoming a thing of the past this gen. Playing Dark Souls and the original Demon's Souls on my PS3 really made me remember how bad it used to be.

There is nothing more to "push", the ray tracing performance is laughably weak. The RT cores are weak and so is the CPU.

The PS5 had reached it's limit.
 
I won't be buying one at launch. This gen has been dog shit and Sony have been far too keen to put out remasters of PS4 titles and cross gen titles for a while. First party output in general has turned to shit too.

Will be looking at the cost of a PS6 vs binning console gaming off for a PC.
 
Feels like my Pro should last longer than that. It's not a cheap console if you've been playing games for the past 30 some years. If you were getting one today you're basically paying for their next console or at least 80-90% of it, but the economy is screwing with everything. It feels stupid to invest in another $700+ console. I don't even feel like this console is even close to ending. Lots of mixed feelings. Game prices don't help either.

A PS6 in 2029 would be 9 years (obv), making that the first PS console generation going outside the traditional timeframe of 6-7 years.

Plus if Xbox is still launching a next-gen console in 2026 or even 2027 as rumors suggest (not sure if changed), I doubt Playstation would let them run around claiming to be a powerful 'something' for 2-3 years.

I think that it will be better to unload it months before the PS6 releases but even then, we'll have to take a big loss since there's no sane person that will actually buy it for more than 400 Eurodollars.

I should have stuck with my phat PS5 dammit, The Pro so far has been a farce...

Xbox are essentially dead and are full blown third party at this juncture. I doubt that sony care what they're doing and are going to do. It just feels like it makes little to no sense to drop the ps6 this soon especially when covid screwed up this generation so much and when prices are out of control.
 
I'm fine with this. I've not thought this generation was that good so far with either PS5/Xbox. I would also be fine if things needed to be pushed to 2028.
 
90% of the use I've gotten out of my PS5 is playing all the PS4 games I missed out on in higher framerates and resolutions.

Sony have given me absolutely no incentive to get the PS6. I'll just build a new PC for the GTA 6 port which should be arriving in the same timeframe.

you have a point but Sony always sold their base consoles at loss and i believe that most ppl ll not buy at $700 console ( just look how bad Pro is doing ). I may be wrong and only time ll tell, BUT i ll say that for $700 i m definitely out of console gaming, since were i live it ll cost something between $1500 - $2000.

I can understand that. As long as Xbox are continuing down their path the way they have been, they might be less of a threat to competitors (if they have any).

I feel like 2027 is still okay. I mean we're still in 2025. We have all of 2026 and then all of 2027 practically before a potential launch.

I'm ready to move on to PS6. PS5 hardware is great, but the software was a fucking trash. Spend most of the time playing PS4 games that got a next gen patch than PS5 games inself.

Not to mention the entire Ray Tracing fiasco. Even Cerny in his PS5pro video admit more than 80% players use the performance mode.


For me to get a PS6 will depends of if have a disk drive inbuilt. Or else will be Nintendo Switch 2 moving foward.
 
I don't know what people are talking about, i am having a blast so far during that gen. Of course it could be better, but it's not as bad people like to say.

Are you deliberating obtuse or what? ps5 pro is a product for enthusiast, is quite priced, you think change something if they release the ps6 an year early? You can still play on it, no one force you to buy the console at launch. And surely my comparison with iphone is more logical than the stupidity you said compare the ps5 pro to a defective product lol.

That sucks to hear. But yeah I hope they would find some way to keep the pricing in similar territory next-gen. Then we have to think about the disc drive on top of that again.

My comparison was a hyperbole to show that it's wrong to make an already poorly supported product run for an even shorter time. If you think it's the customers fault, fine.

I just hope people learn from this when the PS6 Pro comes out.

This is why I don't believe it will be out in 2027, unless they have an amazing line up of PS6 exclusive games that actually showcase the console it will be a very hard sell.

I would rather upgrade my PC, consoles have gotten too expensive and boring.

I am not buying a $700 PS6 to play The Last of Us Part 2 enhanced for PS6 edition.
