PlayStation 6 Release Locked for 2027, “Not Just on the Table, It’s the Plan,” Says Kepler2 Following Sony and AMD’s Project Amethyst Showcase

There are no generations now. If you found ps5 to be boring, then don't expect anything different from ps6. It's a more powerful ps5, nothing more. You will be playing the same exact games with better performance.

If the PS5 gen has been boring, what have ANY of these so-called "gamers" been playing the last 5 years?

PS5 will still be supported long into the PS6 lifecycle so you won't need a 6 for a while anyway. Personally, I sold my PS5 and stuck with Xbox this gen. When PS6 launches I'll probably get one on launch and commit to PS going forward. Sadly.
I am going to get a PS6 and Xbox Next, as of now. Unless I go all PC.

I think the PS6 will at least be the same price as the Pro, with higher storage SKU's being more expensive + the disc drive add-on price.
Sony releasing the PS6 for 800€ in Europe would be the end of the brand dude...that won't happen. And by then the hardware inside wouldn't be much different to a PC for that same price. That's 300€ bucks more expensive than the PS5 and the double of PS4.

Enthusiasts bought it day one but by the end of this gen the Pro version won't be as popular as the PS4 Pro was and it's clear its sales have fallen quite hard.

Original MSRP maybe?

That would be a pure nightmare if true. But you could be right. The disc-less PS5 would need to be $350 or less by time the PS6 comes out in my opinion. Otherwise, they'd be trying to sale the new product to the same TAM (Total Addressable Market) as the PS5.

The PS5 needs to be $350 no-drive and $400 with the drive, once the PS6 drops. And the PS6 should and will possibly be $600 with no drive at launch.

Seriously...my backlog has only been increasing. I don't know what people mean when they say this gen has been boring.

I feel that we have 2 different audiences that buy PS consoles: The ones that use it as their main platform (don't find the gen boring and play a lot) and the ones that bought one for exclusives (then i would understand how the gen has been boring)

Ideally it would be a nightmare but realistically it's the most logical thing.

The PS5 DE is now $100 more expensive than it was in 2020, the Xbox prices are up even more.

We're past the gens of consoles actually dreopping in price over years.

And this doesn't include games like Call of Duty and NBA 2K that won't be making their new games available on PS4 starting next year.

It's not the same market since the PS6 will be $600 or more (Without the drive)

Edit: Almost have to think of the PS6 as what the PS5 Pro should have been. The GPU will only be a little bit better but the CPU will be much better. But that's about it.

Not true. PS4 died last year, what we're getting for it next year are remakes, japanese games and the odd sports game that refuses to migrate like any other gen.

Don't you get it this gen's games suck, get a PC where people have been playing...um...games that also released on PS5. Demons Souls, GT7, DS2, GoY, GTA6 all suck of course but Im waiting for the PC releases!

It's clear why this gen sucked for some.
If this is the target then they have royally fucked over the Pro adopters.
The PS5 Pro released in 2024 PS6 will launch in 2027. The XOX launched in 2017 and XSX in 2020 yet you personally bought that when support for it died so quick. Did you feel conned? The crossgen periods now is going to have PS5 Pro supported for longer too.

I think we all know why the "this generation is boring" narrative is repeated so often, and it's not exactly because of a lack of games, but because of how the generation has gone for PS and Xbox...

On the subject of PS5 Pro, whoever bought it will be playing the best console versions for about three years and will likely have good versions of cross-gen games for a long time to come, so they'll get a lot out of it.

Covid at the start really messed up this gen. The timeline seems off- we never peaked.
If it means a refresh and a proper gen start - then maybe its for the best and less holdover from a previous gen.

Id rather have a slow set of first party releases if it means they are ramping up for PS6.

PS5 Pro is selling for around $550 to $600 on ebay right now. I'm thinking about selling mine when I'm done with Ghost of Yotei and just gaming on PC and Switch 2 the next two years until PS6 comes out.

Just stick with PC and Switch 2. You won't miss a beat.

I upgraded to pro six months ago and I'm very content with it. Two more years with it sounds great. If they want to kick the 6 out to 2028 that sounds even better.

I'm always going to love video games. I'm kind of at a point where I'm not excited for new tech though. The leaps from one gen to the next just aren't that big of a deal anymore. The ssd impact on loading was the biggest real world upgrade over the past two cycles IMO.

Yeah, I get that, but I like having PlayStation on hand for first party and occassional Platinum hunting.
Those first party games come to PC. But I get the trophy hunting. If I go PC, I will be all in on achievements via Steam and building up my Steam library.

True. I just wish I knew when Intergalactic was coming out. I'm not going to wait for the PC version of that. Naughty Dog is always day one.

Knowing Topher Topher a bit more now, something tells me FOMO will kick in whenever the next big PS exclusive comes out... I look forward to that day

EDIT: See! The backpedaling has begun already! :D

lol.....it's so true too. I'm the worst when it comes to FOMO. PlayStation first party is my jam.

I think you just talked me into keeping the damn thing. lol

No, no, no. Stop being rational.

You are supposed to feel "screwed over." - some brandtard out there in the NeoVerse.
I don't understand why people would feel that way. I knew exactly what I was getting when I bought it (same as ps4 pro). In my case it also was time to replace the base anyway since it was starting to randomly shut off rather frequently.

I'll say this though. MLB the Show had no pro upgrade this year even though its first party. Shame shame shame Sony.

2027 would be my guess (they also hinted that in the trailer with the music track set to 7202). It will likely be similar to TLOU and TLOU Part 2. Late gen with a cross gen patch after PS6 launch.

I bought my PS5 Pro in 2024. I sold my PS5 for $300 to get it. I will have played games on it for 3 years before the PS6 goes on sale. I'll sell my PS5 Pro for probably another $300 to get the PS6.

So, how did I get fucked over?
Let me ask you this when you purchased the Pro did you expect a new PS6 in 2027? Regardless of how much you made or will make you laid out a decent amount of money as far as consoles go without any idea it's predecessor would be arriving 2 to 3 years later right? I mean nobody else did, in fact on here most were saying 2028.

Then take into account how incredibly average the PS5 Pro is and you'd have to be a moron not to be at least a little bit annoyed wouldn't you? Then again this is Gaf we're talking about and the beloved Sony.

I want a new Uncharted so, so bigly!

Now I have the itch. I never replayed Uncharted 4 or LL, so I'm going to download them on the Pro this weekend and give them a go again. This is why my backlog and current log suffers, lol. That, and my gaming time I do get, it's Helldivers 2

I had no clue when next gen would launch.

And honest question, what were you expecting it to do that it doesn't? The pro model was not a new generation.

Generations don't mean anything anymore.

The PS5 was basically like buying a new graphics card for your PC. We still got a ton of releases that went PS4 / PS5 hybrid with a small handful of exclusives. It'll be the same with the PS6, you're going to see a lot of games still come to PS5 with some PS6 exclusives.

As long as backwards compatibility stays strong I don't mind this approach honestly. Like if my PS6 can still play PS4 / PS5 games without frame hitches, etc then it's just a spec bump up.

Console generations are generally seven years so no reason why anyone should be surprised by the 2027 target. I bought the Pro and didn't think twice about how far away next gen was. Why would it matter when there is going to be a extended period of cross gen games anyway?

Some are annoyed by Pro and others are not. Doesn't make anyone a "moron" either way. Certainly not because an Xbox warrior says so.

Did you not watch the Mark Cerny and AMD Dude video from yesterday? No way it'll be what you just said.

No I didn't expect a PS6 in 2027. I did for 2028 though. And I'm not going to be mad that I get to play games with raytracing at 60fps. Or games at 40 fps with VRR and Quality levels. I knew what I was buying, before I bought it.

Plus if Cerny and AMD can honestly add FSR 4 to the PS5 Pro (they'll call it PSSR 2) I'd be super happy with my purchase. And if Rockstar supports FSR 4 in the PS5 Pro for GTA6 I'd be OVER THE MOON!!!!
