Aren't they partnered with Rockstar for this release? I imagine they want to avoid releasing a major title of their own within GTA 6's blast radius.

Rockstar does their own thing now. GTA is practically a platform now.

Sony owns the platform expected to have the most initial sales for Rockstar's product. While they may not explicitly have been told GTA is getting delayed, I'd guess they have people in their company with close(ish) business relationships with Rockstar.

So, this isn't proof of a delay, but it's not reassuring, either.

That would be the only thing that could save that system, though most would just wait it out.

Regardless this was just a plug of a few games, most of which are multiplatform and I am guessing will release well before November. COD wasn't there nor Madden, etc. GTA is probably going to have a very specific marketing push when they are sure it will release coinciding with preorders.

Why would Sony know?

Because publishers give platform holders the release date in advance for certification, store prep, pre-orders, launch logistics, marketing deals etc. Xbox knows the date as well.
