Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Seems to run ok in 30fps on my ancient PC, surprisingly. But not feeling in the mood for a Resi atm so putting it off. Probably after new PC build. Performance might still go to shit in the later/Leon bits anyway, though I imagine the initial intro scene with the pedestrians is a decent benchmark.

The game looks amazing cranked up with path tracing on. It's been a long time since I have played a game for 6 hours in one day. It's good, classic RE. It's also a very tense game that doesn't really let up. I think I need a break, lol.

This game looks like a washed out blurry mess in HDR on my Bravia OLED....i think the HDR in game sliders are fucked. On base PS5, other games look amazing so its not my set.

What settings are you all using?
Really I have an older Bravia FALD model(2019) and it's pitch black with very high brightness on light's, no greys whatsoever
massive improvement over the last games.
Maybe something is off in your HDR set-up, especially if blacks are your problem on Oled.
Unfortunately you need someone with the same model to get the right settings, those aren't universal.

I'm still at the care center. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how each of the zombies are unique with their own quirks. I also love the level design of Rhodes Hill. I don't quite think it's RPD level yet, but maybe it opens up even more. Graphically, this is potentially the best looking game I've ever seen. I have it maxed on my new rig, and it looks photo realistic. Path tracing is the truth. I love seeing Graces reflection and any random given mirror or window, gun and all.

Overall, I really only have two issues so far.

The first is the pacing. The switching between Leon and Grace annoys me just like I thought it would. I still wish they just has separate campaigns, or that it would at least unlock a seperated mode once you finish. The horror/action catharsis balance isn't working for me. I'd rather just have one or the other.

The second issue is the lack of difficulty, even on standard classic. I don't think I've died once. Stealth really makes getting around extremely easy (I'm not a super fan of the stealth focus). Especially since for any given section, the individual zombies really only have one scripted back and forth directive. I feel like that will kind of kill replayability. Once you figure them out, you're basically safe. There have really only been two sections so far that forced combat and got me outside my comfort zone with Grace, which I appreciated. More of that.

Leon is perfect, as always.

EDIT: Also Victor is the shit. Fantastic villain. Genuinely the best we've had since Wesker. He's imposing and hammy as fuck, and he steals every scene he's in. I hope he keeps it up all game.

It's not a matter of being hard, i just hate hiding and waiting mechanics in horror games, this is not a splinter cell, it's resident evil.

If it is super rare and 90% of her gameplay is classic re then i can survive a couple of hide and seek section, but not more than a couple.
I've got some bad news man.

Yo .. yo ... yo ... yo ..

this game is fucking nuts ..

this is everything I dreamt of and then some, lol !!
Yeah, I'm not very far but I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm only like 1.5 hours in because I've been spreading my time between this, Marathon, FireRed, and a little Battlefield 6 today.

What perspectives are you playing in? I originally chose the standard 1st person for Grace and 3rd for Leon as Capcom suggests but switched to 3rd person because I was feel sort of sick possibly due to the FOV.

First for Grace, Third for Leon.

Grace's segments lend itself to it well, IMO. I just wish there was an FoV slider to just make it a little bit wider, otherwise absolutely no complaints.

I'm gonna try 1st person again for grace tomorrow I think.
I moved my PS5 Pro over to my desk just because I have an aversion to closing my curtains during the day and my C2 gets so much glare it's hard to play a dark game like this and my desk is in a corner of the living room with much less light combined with a anti glare OLED that gets brighter so proximity to the screen might have played a part in it.

A FOV slider would definitely be welcomed. I wouldn't mind even taking the camera out a bit in third person as well personally.

Just reached the
RPD.

They really did a great "Return to shadow moses" kind of feel here.

I'm sad seeing it in ruins now.

I love the Monster Hunter elements in this game Sharpening the hatchet, holding a charm that increases your attack total capcom goodness

Ps just a gameplay spoiler.

I heard that insanity mode changes this up, though I have no idea to what extent…

Absolutely, and btw Grace is part is a very successful modernization of the classic RE games especially RE2, it is everything I ever wanted!
Yeah i don't know about that, i'm Just at the beginning but her sections are nothing like old re, she is just scared shitless and run away while stumbling for now :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

At least the monster look cool.

One thing that definitely seems like an annoying oversight is that if you take out all of the zombies in the prison cells in the basement, they still just spawn anyway...
Wasted a lot of ammo and the explosion things to clear the way before-hand but didn't actually matter.

Yeah dude, RE2 and 3 Remake taught me that lesson. Cut scenes always respawn them there zombies. I didn't spoiler tag this cause people need to know lol. Such a waste of ammo.

Man, I know it's not THE reason, but it's almost like Capcom saw Silent Hill making a return and deciding to eat their lunch. SH2 remake was seriously taking me away from the RE series until this game released. It was amazing but this is on another level and Konami is going to have to start getting serious if they don't want to look bad in comparison from here on out. Competition is a good thing! This absolutely wrecks the last two RE games.

So I guess I seen the part that people were freaking about saying they can't believe Capcom did this. It's a balsy move and it actually had me tearing up literally. RE doesn't really get me emotionally but a couple times they did in this game. I think this is their most mature game yet in terms of characters.

I just got into raccoon city. And it's riddled with
. Spiders lol. One really big one.

Having so much fun with this and the opening sections for both Grace and Leon felt epic, the production values for this are off the scale, when Leon starts using the axe is pretty sweet as well. I have been playing docked on the Switch 2 and was having so much fun I forgot to check out handheld mode, which is very impressive too.. the fact you can play this on the go is very cool.

I hate to say it because I was hoping this would be the best looking section. But raccoon city has a last gen look to it. It's a little disappointing.

The beginning is not the real game yet. Once you get a weapon, the classic RE gameplay starts. We all have told you this already

Just be more patience man

I really like Resident Evil: Requiem on the Nintendo Switch 2 :)

I was never in Graphics, for me Fun was always the most important thing. But Resident Evil: Requiem on the Nintendo Switch 2 has both, it looks great and is Fun.

Resident Evil: Requiem has also a great Story and Atmosphere, and I really like the interconnected Gameplay between Grace and Leon.

There is so far one thing I really don't like and that's are the Zombie's ;)

Well, Capcom still delivers. I'm only at the beginning, but it's very polished, and the alternation between Leon and Grace works really well. I know people have been saying for a few pages now that Grace doesn't really look like a standard FBI agent, more like an administrative type, but that actually allows for a solid character arc.

And I have to highlight Angela Sant'Albano's incredible performance as Grace. She did an extraordinary job: the tremors in her voice, the panic attacks, the breathing, all of it. It's top tier.

Really loving this so far thought switching between Grace and Leon would be a little jarring but that did not turn out to be the case. Enjoyong playing as both Leon and grace, playing as Leon you are a walking badass but playing as grace requires you to be more cautious and most of the suspense has so far been from Grace's sections.

There have been a couple of stinkers here and there but so happy RE continues to be good to this day.

Does the noticeable shimmering in reflections and shadows go away after the early introduction?

They really nailed the sound design and vibe on this one.

Going into the hotel with Grace...the sound design is fucking awesome. I think I might use my 7.1 with Tempest support for this one and completely ditch the soundbar.

So hang on, Leon uses an exclusive ability to access a file that reveals a safe combination and then Grace uses the combination to open the safe, even though she has never seen the file and hasn't been in touch with Leon.

Videogame logic.

Anyway, goddamn I'm having a great time with this game. So good.

Same here, but the switching is done so well, and in my opinion is best left at the default settings, first person for Grace, and third for Leon. The switching is almost like a cliff hanger in a TV show, which works very well.

Does the basePS5 have no RT at all? The DF comparisons make the base one look flat and washed out whereas the Pro has the depth and incredible RT effects all whilst running at 60fps, surely the base can get as good looking but at 30??

Slimysnake from this forum said that the game only looks good in first street level and that the indoor lighting looks off. However, I disagree. The lighting looks incredible even in indoors. In fact the game looks photorealistic at times, especially with HDR. Playing it in a dark room with headphones on is a surreal experience. I also feel like this entry is way more gory and violent. The two camera systems are very interesting. The FPP camera definitely improves the horror atmosphere during Grace segments, whereas the TPP camera makes the Leon combat segments easier to play. The RE9 is as demanding as UE5 games, but the performance on my PC is still excellent, especially with FG, which works amazingly in this game, even at generated 70fps, not to mention 100 fps. The PT performance was brutal in the opening scene (busy street), but later levels run twice as well, and I can use DLSSQ at 4K (instead of DLSSP) and still have a playable experience. That being said, I don't feel that PT makes a noticeable difference in this game, except maybe for mirror reflections. The hybrid RT in this game looks so good that PT doesn't even alter its appearance. With high internal resolution and RT hybrid set to high the lighting is fairly stable so I prefer to play RE9 with hybrid RT and even higher fps and better image quality (PT use RR that applies DNR filter).

I think SDR screenshots don't do it justice because the image is darker and lacks the shadow details I can see in HDR. This combination makes the game look photorealistic on my QD-OLED.

Man. These graphics are sick at times. Path Tracing + FG seems worth it here. I was sure I was gonna turn it off and just use DLSS but fuck it.
There is literally 0 downside using 2x framegen. Game runs and looks beautifully with it, above 100 fps maxed out with PT for me and i see 0 artifacts or weird shit and its responsive as hell.

The game looks incredible all the time. The quality of the assets textures and lighting is superb. That guy only praises games using UE5. Anything outside that engine is shit for him

I title this vid "The Art of Killing", only watch if you enjoy high level combat tactics lol

(mid-game, possible spoilers I guess though the environment is generic)

The first fights against
the chainsaw zombie and his 2 buddies

felt like i was watching the 3 stooges, silly ass zombies :messenger_tears_of_joy:
