Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Well finished the whole thing in one sitting since my friend wanted to watch. Game was a ton of fun especially the first half and the Grace sections especially but the story ends up being a major letdown along with some other lesser issues. As far as a ranking goes:

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Resident Evil: Outbreak
Resident Evil/REmake
Resident Evil 2/REmake 2
Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil 9
Resident Evil 6
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 7
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 8

I probably personally prefer 6 to 9 since I ended up having a better time than I expected with it, mostly due to the Jake and Sherry campaign and Leon actually acting like Leon, while a lot of the stuff I was looking forward to with 9 ended up disappointing but I just can't say 6 is a legitimately better game with a straight face.

Honestly I could see myself shuffling 0,6,9 around just based on mood. Lots of highs and lows with all of them really.

I thought six was awful, paid $5 and felt insulted.

I'm wrapping up the last half hour or so of this one, enjoyed my time with it. Much better than Village which I was not a fan of. I have a soft spot for VII. I liked the switch to first person and I loved the "House of 1000 Corpses" vibe the game had.

Please stop shoehorning 15 minute bits in your game where I have to control a helpless child. It's not fun, it's not scary, it's fuggin annoying and destroys the pace.

The "combat" flow with Grace is just like RE4, knee shot, melee, run away. If you're putting 6 shots into a zombie's head, you're gonna pay for it later in many ways.

I found myself a hidden message in a certain item and searched online what it is.

Apparently there is an obscure puzzle sequence in the game that remains unsolved.

I had zero interest since reveal of the game until this weekend. 7 was good but no resident evil, 8 was fine but nothing to write home about.

But now after playing for two hours, holy fuck is it good. This is what I want from a proper next resident evil game.

I'm really impressed.

So for those of you getting stutters, apparently this solves it

not sure if was already posted but here you go PSA

Yep that's as far as I made it too.

When I found the message in the sequencer (I still had one blood sample left to analyze that I didn't do before going to the basement, so went to do that and it seemed to make sense to try the hand there since it was all bloody), I looked up what it could mean since it didn't mean anything to me.. saw you could enter that code in the office but thats seemingly the end of it for the time being.. very interesting!

So I wanted to replay the game on a 'hard mode' equivalent but it seem the only option is insanity? Which sounds like a 'very hard' type of mode.

Os it 'standard (classic)' basically the equivalent of a hard mode?

Anyone have some clarification on this?

"Classic" is kind of an in-between difficulty mode. The combat balance is the same as Standard (Modern), but you can only save with ink ribbons, which adds tension and risk.

Talkative zombies, with human patterns and scary lines are a fantastic way to refresh things in my opinion.

Specially because each zombie acts differently.

The fucking cleaning lady, when she grabs you she scurbs your face, while saying "cleeeaan"

The nutjob one on the east wing, with the IV thing, if you break a jar comes running at you like a madman, screaming for the noise to stop and go away.

It's fantastic.

Yup its fantastic way to improve zombies as enemies instead of doing boring ass mole enemies in RE7....god those enemies was fucking awful.

Definitely! I wasn't sure I'd like it based on early preview but I do really like it.

As the other guy mentioned the cleaning lady is drawn to new messes like zombies you kill near her.

The IV guy if you make noise he will rush over and one time he started swinging his rack and killed the other zombie near him. Lol. Love that stuff.

I just completed the hospital as Grace and am back to Leon.

I simultaneously feel impressed and underwhelmed. I'm having some great moments but it also feels a bit like going through the motions.

I also haven't warmed up to the split character dynamic. I'm not sure I necessarily like the idea it Leon being the "release" if that's what's happening. I prefer to sort of play strategically and earn my own release as the game ramps up. So far the switching feels disjointed but hopefully that smooths over.

Again, the hospital as Grace was really good stuff, but it doesn't feel fresh on a gameplay level so far.

For those who are interested - or unaware - the new Resident Evil games have an 'adaptive difficulty' script that runs in the background. Basically, the better you play, the more the game nerfs you and buffs your enemies, and the shittier you play, the more the game buffs your stats and nerfs the enemies.

Here is a mod that 'locks' the adaptive difficulty slider and prevents it from changing, in case you don't want the game to get easier (or harder) as you play.

I ran the mod and saw that the game had me at difficulty rank 8/10, which explains why zombies took a lot more punishment to die, and why I needed healing after just one bite - my Grace is nerfed as fuck.

Would like to jump in on insanity after finishing the game. Care center for Grace was really fantastic and would like experience that again on higher difficulty and from1st person perspective since there's FOV mod at this point. But damn that Racoon city as Leon was already all over the place for me, that and after reading the impressions on insanity I got the impressions that it sucks and isn't like professional in re4r and madhouse in 7 which both I liked.

Great game that also keeps changing it up. I liked the early parts a ton but i did miss treasures, upgrades etc. However the game has a lot to offer the further you go.

the adaptive difficulty is fine, is just there really to prevent you to locking yourself out of progress by not having any ammo; this is why if you're not getting injured or not using a lot of ammo, a lot of lockers and drawers will be empty if you open them, because the game sees you already have more than enough to get through.

This isn't really "new" either, all the way back to RE4 it already worked that way and hasn't really changed since.

Oh, I'm not saying it's a bad mechanic, I just wasn't aware of it being a thing for so long.

Oh, and fun fact: People are wrong in thinking that the only difference between 'modern' and 'classic' is the ink ribbons. If you play 'modern', the game starts with rank 4, which is the 'normal' difficulty setting (neither you nor the enemies have any nerfs or buffs, all multipliers are x1). If you go with 'classic', the game begins with rank 6 - which has you nerfed from the get-go.

I just finished the game, what an incredible experience. I was completely glued to the screen from start to finish. It's been a long time since a game pulled me in like that and kept me hooked the whole way through.

Leon is an absolute badass, and his performance carried the entire adventure. Charismatic, intense, and effortlessly cool,he made every moment feel bigger and more memorable and the gunplay is the best one in the whole franchise, I hope Capcom keeps this level of quality moving forward

Funny that the games timer says 10 hours but Steam says almost 19

9 out of 10 is my rating

Now I am sad that its over and need some time to reflect

Cheers papitos

Near the end of the game and Leon was better in short bursts to compliment the survival horror aspect. Once you play as him in Raccoon City shit is kinda stale after like 30 minutes.

the motion controls are fun, but i wish there was some smoothing... the analog stick camera panning is super smooth, but gyro is a bit jittery

I guess I can pretend it's a feature since I'm kind of jittery at aiming, and my characters maybe scared

Loved the game just finished it.

.
The part in racoon city open ish area should have been cut.

It looks drab
It's boring
Anything else actually in buildings houses etc.. is amazing.

Maybe the last 2 enemy gaunlets are not as needed but loving the game.

My top 5 for mainline games.

7
9
8
Remake 3
resident evil 1 remake on ds

Finished tonight, and the game was amazing but the climax is lacking and the narrative clearly dips after a certain chase scene.
The Wesker clone ends up being pointless.
Feels like too much fan service led the narrative astray. Ashame as it was brilliant up till water treatment. It's still a top tier game though.

For whatever reason every re game has someone that should've got more screen time. In this one it was Gideon. I liked his character and there should've been more. Also sherry as well. It was pointless even having her in the game.

What the hell all the zombies seem to turn into blister heads on insanity xD, or maybe my luck is just shit at the start.
They do. You have to kneecap, melee, axe finish, OR if they turn use requiem.

You can axe them before they turn but be fast!

I stopped my insanity run when I go to the care center. I thought of how fucking annoying a classic ink ribbon run with this bullshit will be and I do not want to do the "mines" area with Grace again. I really just want to do the care center and all Leon parts.

Anyone putting 6 above 9 should be tested for Down syndrome.

That game is a war crime and almost destroyed the entire franchise.

Re7 already did it?
Did what? Waste two entries on a dog shit duology with werewolfs and Vampires that added nothing to the series.
You could play the whole series and easily ignore them.
The references even in Requiem are just easter eggs and unimportant.

Shame there's no proper NG+, that would have been very convenient for insanity run.

Man these guys really went the next level.

If you come across an area where you enter a room and close the door, and it happens to be a well lit area on the outside with an ongoing zombie going back and forward, you can spot his shadow going through below the door.

Its a really neat detail.

Also fuck the butcher zombie for not staying put to a single zone 🤣

I'd rather fight molded all day than subject myself to Chris or Ada campaign ever again.
But the start of Leons campaign was actually good.
If the whole game was like that it would be a different story.
It's a damn shame, I hope they remake it and fix that shit.

So the mod has a way to check which difficulty you're at? I think I want to roll with how Capcom designed it, but I'd be curious to see my level.

Cool-didn't know this. That's what I get for trusting AI. It didn't call out that the base difficulty changes between modern and classic.

The only nitpick I have with Leon so far is his zombie intro in the Care Center. Drives me crazy that Leon, with all his experience with infected didn't immediately merc that zombie who then merc'd that poor nurse.
