Resident Evil Requiem |OT| Through the Darkness

Surprised more people aren't calling out the limited weapon and upgrade options from the supply box. There were what, 2 choices per weapon type? And only 2 upgrades for each weapon stat? This was a huge low point. Most of the time there was an OBVIOUS weapon to go buy, and the upgrades could be maxed very quickly. The mechanic almost felt like an afterthought.
Yeah, it kind of sucks.

Shhhhh we dont criticize Leon's games.

Yeah it's pretty ass. Complete after thought. You can see glimpses of afterthoughts. Like adding this currency system at the end of the game.

FYI, after you beat the game once, you unlock a third tier of upgrade for the weapons for next runs.

And you can unlock 5 or 6 more weapons via the Rewards menu to use in the game, including the one and only automatic weapon Grace can use in her portion.

Could be worse, could be like RE6.

That's the least of the games problems, Leon's combat simply isn't as satisfying as RE4 Remake or even the original RE4 really.

oh come on now... re4 was amazing, but talk about rose colored glasses

standing in place to shoot?... even the aiming itself was d-pad with a stick

go back and play the gamecube game... and aim with the dpad instead of the analog stick... same

amazing game, but you should calibrate yourself lol

After finishing Requiem, it's obvious: Resident Evil Village is better in every way that matters. The Grace sections are the only thing holding it together. Leon's campaign is a masterclass in bland design.

Village sucks and I'm tired of pretending it doesn't. Ethan is the worst RE protagonist by a country mile, the guns feel like pea shooters, the enemy mobs are lame and not fun to fight, etc. The castle is alright but that's it. At least RE7 has the claim to fame of being the scariest RE game. Village is just temu RE4 in first person with a dork protagonist.

Requiem mogs it in every way.

Yeah I really didn't dig it. Plus supernatural garbage I despise in this series.

And when I say Village sucks I mean relative to the rest of the franchise. As it's own game it's…fine.
But also agree that it's not fundamentally awful, just not what I want from RE in ways.

Tbf this game ( at least Leon's segments ) are not far from RE6, mainly all RC segment.

And Grace segments are barely survival since you have lots of resources that ll never let you feeling like you are fucked.

So, ppl glazing this game up wouldnt be good for the franchise by your logic.

I'm fine with half of every game going forward being survival horror. Better than 50% of the output this franchise has gotten lately. It's a step in the right direction and Capcom is at least pulling from decent horror games, like The Bunker. I'm all for it.

You think fighting one enemy for like 2 hours is good with limited physicality from Leon and you're completely devoid of doing finishers if you're equipping the sights? You do you I guess. I've yet to see a suplex in this game.

Fuck crapcom for not giving grace a shotgun and magnum. The replays with inf ammo would be more fun that way.
are you not entertained by her very good gameplay of shooting 7 headshots for a kill, with her 5 bullets weapon that she ll slowly reload for that survival horror feeling ?

The game is even better on replaying. Leon x RC works better second time through.

Managed to (The Final Puzzle spoilers!) pick up Marie´s doll, although it feels a bit like cheating to just follow a guide on it. If you play on casual, the game autosaves as you turn the crank to drain the pool, in case you make a mistake during the grinder section you can just load the autosave and try again.

Just got both endings. I kind of think Leon works better as a change of pace rather than the 50/50 split we got. It feels like this game is trying to serve two masters and neither can live up to the highs of other games in the series. I found Grace's sections more interesting even if they had some problems (way more thresholds that enemies will not cross). Leon's sections dragged on and often felt like lesser imitations of past entries and his limited arsenal and upgrade options didn't help. I like some of the new combat options, but I can't say I'm itching to go back and try out some of the enemy arenas. I didn't really like Grace, but at least she had characteristics that I disliked which puts here above Ethan. All and all I'd probably put this game as the top of the heap for the middling titles in the series along with RE5, RE7, and Village.

Yeah fighting zombies and like one Blister Borne in a PS3 era environment and nothing else is just a steep decline.

First half of the game is a 9 for sure.

I got a few trophies left and then I have the Plat.

Leon's first major section gave me serious TLOU vibes.

Totally, it is >REALLY< that bad, and I'm baffled by watching some discussions and people giving it a 9 overall

Good to know I'm not alone

Finished it: by far the best original Resident Evil in over 20 years.
I'm not even sure where RE4 sits with it, it does things better and Requiem does things better.
I need replays, but Brav-fuckin-o Capcom
The biggest bonus to its credit is it feels like a sequel to the first 3 and Code Veronica.
And the story was actually good and tied things up but also left open.

also anyone else noticed the soldier that handed Grace a drink looked like that bad design Chris Redfield from RE7?

I'm not looking it up to see if this is real but holeee if she is the true model for the singing zombie. Shiet...Now that I look at it on a computer screen def looks like an A.I. face. :(

Isn't there an achievement unlock to expand on the upgrades?

Made the 'wise' decision to do my speedrun playthrough with two other challenges (no meds and no blood collector) while ALSO doing the 15-minute step for the Final Puzzle... and I barely made it with 10 minutes to go. I really had to haul ass in the last hour of the game and avoid combat as much as possible lol

Goddamn i loved the extended raccoon part with Leon. Why people say it doesnt look good? I think it still looks fantastic with PT. Also the set piece after that part...

Happy Jeff Goldblum GIF by Spotify

Yeah I overreacted a bit when I said P.T don't look good in this area. It does, its just the noise and ghosting is more apparent during the time of the day with sun, but it still looks great and it gets better the longer you play

I've always found the suplexes to be stupid and cartoonish. Who is hugging a zombie? And why would a 50 year old put himself in a vulnerable position like that? I just beat RE 4 before playing this and I found Leon's gameplay better in RE9. The gun parries, picking up and throwing or swinging weapons dropped by zombies, context sensitive finishers, using a chainsaw, and overall better animations.

Did you go with the steroids instead of the blue juice that improves bullet damage and crit rate? I killed every zombie in the hospital with ammo left over for the basement. It takes 2-4 shots. The only streamer I've seen struggle with ammo is Asmongold but he sucks lol

Papitos, I can't stop thinking about the potential of a Code Veronica remake with this level of gameplay and graphics and imagine if they actually revamped Steve's personality and made him way less insufferable. It could be unreal.

Damn it. So this game glitches on 2nd playthrough. I'm at the part where you gotta snipe and cover grace but Leon has no sniper like he gets in the cutscene. 🤦‍♂️

Also worth noting that it's beneficial to wait for the aiming reticle to focus because it increases chances of a critical hit which explodes their heads so they'll never get back up. I've seen a few streamers unaware of the mechanic, even though it's the same in RE2 and 4 Remake lol

It's not a glitch... the storage box is placed right at the beginning for you to buy a sniper rifle

Yeah but the cut scene shows him get a sniper lol than he doesn't have one. I guess it isn't a glitch but a dumb oversight.

Rolled credits.

My views on the game didn't change at all. Still a 6/10. Grace gameplay was… ahem.. the saving grace. The story and characters were… ok? Functional, I guess? Except for Grace's constant stuttering though. I even tried to fool myself by thinking may be Capcom was bold enough to give the heroine an actual speech disability but… nope, the epilogue proved that it was just amateur voice acting. Can't convey anxiety or fear wihihihihithouhowhowhowt stuhuhuhuhutering through the entire game in exactly the same pattern. Give the girl an award will ya? So much talent out there getting no recognition at all, while I'm almost certain this high school grade performance will get nominated.

The only thing that made me go "whoa" in the latter half was the sheer graphical fidelity of cutscenes (so many of them looked like straight up CG on the pro) and the
choice
. Only because I didn't see that coming in an RE game.

The boss fights were absolutely, irredeemably trash tier. Such basic and predictable move sets with non existent level design. Telegraphing so far in advance that I would sometimes miss the parry window because I was unnecessarily waiting for them to complete the slothful animation. So much standing around doing nothing and a complete lack of intensity as a result. Almost felt like cheap imitations of their own previous work. And stupidly easy on top of that. Ughh. Having to move my inventory around for the first time ever in the game for Leon after getting the rocket launcher before the final phase was just the hilarious icing on this saccharine cake. Made me laugh out loud when his briefcase popped up before the climax. So there I was moving handgun ammo, herbs, scrap bags and grenades around to make room while in the middle of the last freakin boss fight. Such intensity!

Will still do an insanity run at some point without modifiers, just so I can torture myself into having more fun and get my money's worth. I'm sure the non-boss gameplay would be much better with just ridiculously amped up difficulty so I can get through the excessive ammo and health the game relentlessly throws at you. On second thought, may be I'll get rocket launchers just to skip the boss fights altogether as they are totally not worth the effort…

Leon said he "feels better than ever" after his Elpis shot, and both critics and gamers are showering Capcom with praise for making their most OP protagonist in the last 10 years that I've played all their RE games. I really hope they don't get the wrong idea for RE10 and turn him into a wisecracking Superman on a power trip. Infinite ammo and infinite health incoming? *shudders*

End rant.

Sorry guys. I know many love this game and I don't want to sound like a troll. I'm honestly pissed and deliberately hyperbolic to express said pissy-ness. No game has frustrated me this much in a long long time. The order 1886 was the last I can recall that still gives me the ick. At least this was much better. It was still made by competent people with a ton of love for both the characters and the fans. But I'm frustrated nonetheless because of the high expectations I had for it going in after the glowing reception. Sighhhh… I'm clearly in the minority.

End rant for realsies

You get it out of the supply box before you enter the house. Have to attach scope in the Tune Up category

I hope there was a lore about her and other zombies. I wish there was some kind of survivor mode in RE9, like hunk and tofu in RE2 OG. I hope there was extra mode unlockable were we get to play them while they were still alive, and not yet zombies.

Holy crap Insanity is brutal so far. Doing it legit without any bonus weapons or cheats and this shit is rough. Grace's gun isn't where it's supposed to be so I'm running for my life from everything, but the zombies lunge so far in this difficulty that I end up getting grabbed anyway lol

Taking my sweet time on this lovely game on my ps5. By the way, may I ask what are the requirements to achieve platinum? Thanks.

My zombies go down with 3-4 headshot but i crafted all the blue steroids possible.

I did 2 steroids and thats it, i ll try to remember that on my insanity playthrough

BUT, to be fair, the game is so easy-peasy that i even forgot that upgrade damage and health was a thing and i did my first playthrough on the classic difficulty.

ppl have so much rose tinted glasses for Leon that you ll see almost to no complaints about this, all bosses are trash tier, there isnt a single one that put up a fight. T-00 is a joke of fight, while in RE2RE you have a small arena to fight him and he is way more aggressive always closing the gap between him and the player, in this game you ll fight him in a fucking stadium while he ll just stand still for like 6 seconds charging every one of his attacks, so you can deal free damage without ANY feeling of danger and dont forget that you can parry 90% of his attacks.

Also, the bosses are so trash tier that i didnt even knew you get a rocket launcher in the final boss ( i didnt even saw he using one ), missed it completely and i did 2 playthroughs at the moment.

Also 2 (spoiler dont hit play if you didnt finished the game )

and ppl are glazing the game as one of the best survival horrors out there, this is re6 levels of retardation.
