AFAIK, this was Roland Emmerich's first film in Hollywood. The film is a dump action film, a relic from the 80's, just made in the 90's. JCVD and Dolp Lundgren star as soldier killed in Vietnam, who are resurrected and made into killing machines. The story is just there to serve as background for action, and makes no sense whatsoever. Pacing of the film is all over the place, and the dialogue is gringeworthy. Still, I somewhat enjoyed it, if only for how stupid it was.

F1 6/10.
It was pretty enjoyable. The story and overall style is super generic and I felt like it was too long and dragged a bit in the middle, but it's elevated by amazing visuals with some awesome shots during the races and a fantastic mix of real footage with VFX.

Had the niece and nephew over and we watched this . Pretty mid, the first one was way more enjoyable IMO, both in the main story and the ways they depict that animal society.
Admittedly, watching this dubbed didn't help. I don't usually mind dubs for kids movies, but I really didn't like the performances in this one.

House On Haunted Hill on Prime (1959).
At 72 minutes it's a short and fun time with the unforgettable Vincent Price.
Dead Of Winter also on Prime (2025).
A pleasant surprise.
Emma Thompson was great.
Judy Greer was also wonderful as a fentanyl stick chewing crazy on a mission.
The ending kicked ass and almost made me cry.

I like Moretz as an actress, but this is a particularly dumb movie. It's like they had 5 different ideas for what the story would be and couldn't decide. It's goes way overboard with the girl boss, to the point where the last scene is Moretz hand to hand overpowering a gremlin beast while a dude is holding her baby in the background, looking at the action. Once she kills the beast, she takes the baby and breastfeed it, credits.
There were some good scenes, but not much to salvage here.

What time is it?
Batman Begins was on sale for $4.99 and it had been a while since my last viewing. There is so much great casting in the movie even if you set aside Caine, Freeman and Oldman who are always great, Calian Murphy being a highlight for me. That said, and while he's not terrible or anything, I do think Bale is probably the weakest link and that's before the heavier gruff he added to his voice in the next two movies. His Bruce Wayne has a lot of hints of Patrick Bateman, just toned way down. I guess that does a good enough job of him feeling detached which is the point, I'm just not sure he completely sells it for me. The final sequence has always bothered me as the derailed monorail crashes into Wayne Tower with the microwave emitter which would have accomplished the League of Shadows goal, but I digress. p.s. I've always disliked the Tumbler. For context, Dark Knight has always been my favorite of the trilogy (super popular opinion) and I've only seen the 3rd once because I hated it.

Standard morally dubious cops with green sidekick. The movie is extremely bleak and graphic finding itself in edgelord territory. You end up hating pretty much everybody. Not super bad, but wouldn't recommend unless you feel like an mentally unhealthy 15 years old.

Few years can make a difference. I watched Emmerich's Universal Soldier a couple of days ago, and while I didn't hate it, it certainly wasn't a good movie. Stargate, which was released in 1994, on the other hand is a genuinely good and even fascinating film. Of course the CGI effects are dated, I think they didn't have very much money to make this film. The stoey tells of an egyptologist, played by James Spader, who joins the army for snd operation to open a link between two worlds. Always great Kurt Russell plays operation leader, who also intends this to be his ginal mission. Beyond they gate they find a distant world where lots of ancient egypt technology supposedly came from. Fun movie all the way, no wonder it became a franchise.

12 Monkeys - Still an awesome movie, think I like it even more now. The crazy Terry Gilliam Brazil style influence really makes the movie feel like a fever dream and you get to feel like you are in Cole's disoriented viewpoint.

Not sure what to think about this film. I have no idea if it's supposed to be horror, musical, stage play or what. It tells about ghost of Mary Shelley, who has been trapped in a purgatory like state for over a hundred years, because she couldn't tell the other story, only Frankenstein. She possesses a young woman, who dies soon after. But then Frankenstein monster is actually real, and he with a another mad scientist revives the possessed girl to be his bride. Most of the dialogue makes no sense, while the story itself is pretty straightforward. Can't give much praise to it, but music was good and Christian Bale does a good role as the monster.

Your comment spurred me on to rewatch 12 Monkeys. Hadn't seen it in decades but it's still one of my favorite movies. It didn't age one bit. Wonderful eccentric movie in Gilliam's typical visual style immensely helped by a very strong script.

The visual style I think plays a big part in keeping it feeling fresh - not just the weird future tech - but the cinematography. Its so unique that you feel like you are seeing something 'new'.
Also Madeliene Stowe is incredibly beautiful which I probably didn't appreciate as much when I was younger.

I would rename the movie to Blue Simp Chuck
The movie started out good but than halfway through just ended up with him turning into a simp for the penguin obssessed lady. I admit that despite that the movie did have some moments that made me laugh out loud but the plot itself was just BAD

Then a bunch of crap before the big showdown suddenly happens. Evidence of loads of cut scenes, yet we've got time for Paul Rudd singing the theme song.

It was a repeat watch for me, but I haven't seen it in about twenty years.
Quite an unusual movie. There's no real protagonist. It's more like a biography for an inanimate object. It has no real grand conclusion. The character who could most readily be called the protagonist turns out to be someone of no significant integrity. I feel like this could have been turned into a much better story.
I would recommend this film, but with reservations. It's compelling in a rather low-energy way.

War Machine - this was bad. I won't spoil it although the plot synopsis on Netflix kinda spoils it already, but it's been a while since I've seen a movie with a plot this unserious that takes itself so seriously. It tries to lay on the emotion and sappiness and power of brotherhood stuff way too heavy and it just isn't there. There's nothing about this movie that's emotional and I found myself LOLing several times throughout the movie. And the ending is just the cheesiest and cringiest ending I've seen in quite some time. The whole thing is lame. Only watch if you want something mindless to kill time for a couple hours.

They finally released this on Blu-Ray in here, so of course I had go get it. Renny Harlin really fell hard after Deep Blue Sea, but this is one of his better films from 2000's.

I tried to watch this film some 15 years ago, but didn't make it very far. Maybe I was expecting a crazy comedy, since this was directed by Brooks. Now that I've seen it completely, I found it a fun watch, but I know better comedis as well. But I won't deny it must have been a blast if watched in the 60's.

New Gore Verbinski movie, like a wacky mix of Terminator, Terry Gilliam and I Have No Mouth... Or maybe Ubik. 20 million dollars budget, looks like 120. Verbinski is a master of framing, blocking and CGI.
It doesn't always work but it doesn't matter because at least it tries. It's never boring or generic.
I never watched the trailers and I hope they did not spoil the insanity.
