There is absolutely no chance in hell that a Spider-Man movie will bomb. It'll do great.

It isn't just about making money though, this is the MCUs last chance to generate buzz for Doomsday, which has an Avatar 3 level budget and needs to make as much, which is NOT guaranteed with how MCU flicks have been performing in the past 5 years. So BND has to KICK ASS, not just ride on coattails. It needs to generate EXCITEMENT, not just serve as a check the box afternoon time waster. I think if Spidey doesn't clear a B in the first month Marvel will blink and shift away from Dune3.There is absolutely no chance in hell that a Spider-Man movie will bomb. It'll do great.

ehhh, I wouldn't be too sure about that. While marvel seems hellbent on trying to rewind the clock back to 2019, the past crop of marvel films have largely been tanking. Cap 4, Thunderbolts, F4, The Marvels, Eternals. GOTG3 and DP3 were big, with DP3 leaning megahard on nostalgia. Seems like DD will do the same but is it gonna work? Those previous heights were when the MCU was firing on ALL cylinders, which is clearly no longer the case.Spider-Man does not need to generate any kind of buzz for Doomsday. Doomsday will do great as well on its own. It's a fucking Avengers movie, by default it'll be huge.
Sure, the "solo" movies have been mostly duds, but Thunderbirds proved that with good characters and writing, even side characters can do really well. The duds were duds because they just werent good movies. Will see.ehhh, I wouldn't be too sure about that. Thunderbolts didn't even hit 400 mill, same with Cap4, same with Black Widow, same with Shang-chi, same with Eternals. The ramp up to the megasuccess of the Avengers films was shared by all the side flicks, which is why anyone went to see Capt Marvel or Antman. But we saw those films flounder in their sequels as well. Seems like the base earning of a MCU film is more in the 400-800 mill range, especially if overseas is tepid.Sure, the "solo" movies have been mostly duds, but Thunderbirds proved that with good characters and writing, even side characters can do really well. The numbers are EVERYTHING with the MCU. Those films are some of the most expensive films EVER MADE. With no audience there is no MCU. Think they can bring in Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and RDJ without $$$$$$? RDJ alone costs as much as an entire film himself. He doesn't wake up hoping marvel will let him play Tony/not-tony, he wakes up and checks to see if the check cleared to make it worth his while. Why are you obsessed with numbers? It doesnt have to reach number 1 of all time to be good. All that matters is that its an amazing movie.
The movie needs to surpass its budget and it'll be fine and it will absolutely surpass it. If its a good movie and it doesnt, well that wouldnt be the first, life sucks. I mean Blade Runner 2049 is a masterpiece and it didnt do wonders. The numbers are EVERYTHING with the MCU. Those films are some of the most expensive films EVER MADE. So if you want these big budget cgi heavy spectacles, there needs to be hundreds of millions watching.

Seems like rdj got 80 mill upfront for "not tony". Or maybe a min guarantee of 80 and 5% backend if it's higher? Regardless, that's money marvel has to spend, and the Russos got a similar deal. Seems like panic spending by Marvel to recapture the lighting. We'll see when a proper trailer comes out (ahead of spidey?). Rdj was already getting stupid amounts for his later films.I think he gets his money on the back end. Plenty up front too, but he gets a percentage. And that is what changed his life. Changed Alec Guinness too when he got it for Star Wars.
Stuntwork snippet:
I know Marvel's CGI studios will excessively paint over their stunts with CGI, but it's still good to see some behind the scenes work on them.

True, it felt like the 'spinning/zooming 3D camera' was all throughout the 2010s.All too often with CG the director has the 'camera' moving in a very unnatural way, zooming between characters legs, flipping around, all sorts of shit that you can too easily do in an all virtual environment that just ends up highlighting how artificial it all is.
Yeah, the issue today is the incredibly flat neutral lighting and everyone being backlit in these LED Volume chambers. I feel cinematography has been soooooo beaten up lately. Though I suppose you can go back and see the eye scorchingly vibrant technicolor era, or the muted grit of the 70's, each phase has it's trademarks. But I can go back and watch fairly low budget shit shot on film and it looks a lot better than the digital video low budget stuff we have now. They knew how to use lighting and make the most out of sets in ways they seem to have forgotten now.True, it felt like the 'spinning/zooming 3D camera' was all throughout the 2010s.
Even though it still happens a few times here and there, I'm just glad that most directors got that 'Whoa! Look guys! 3D!' mess of filming styles out of their system and pivoted in a different direction once it wore out.
After watching more and more original works lately, I have a theory about the 'lack of color' and 'worse writers' sentiments lately.Yeah, the issue today is the incredibly flat neutral lighting and everyone being backlit in these LED Volume chambers. Though old TV can look fucking ROUGH. Due to low resolution, 4:3 aspect, mono sound, some of that can be hard to watch as well. TV now looks AMAZING but damn the writing has so fallen off![]()
I figure (hope) the desaturated 'look' is mostly aesthetic and will run it's course. Same with HDR pitch black scenes you can't see shit in. Not sure about the backlighting/Volume, seems like that's here to stay. I'd just like more variety, it feels like everything is being run through the same production house. After watching more and more original works lately, I have a theory about the 'lack of color' and 'worse writers' sentiments lately.
I think both have moved far away from popular I.P. and franchises. And it is unfortunate because the popular stuff is what everyone keeps judging the entire industry by.
Also on a side note, my worries regarding everyone complaining about the lack of color in big films today, is that they don't know what terrible future could await them if these big studios decide to all move towards the generative-AI (overly bright, overly saturated, super clean) look.
Also this MJ is lame, no chemistry at all.
